Very nice shop, you have laid it out in a way that is workable, safe and have the room for large projects. The electrical is outstanding, that is one thing that I always seem to be short on. Thank you for sharing your shop I know that this video has given many guys and gals some great ideas.

Giving one of those to my kids, would make as much sense as giving your kid a jet airplane for his 8th birthday. By the time they are old enough they will be as obsolete as my cellphone from ten years ago. Rest assured I am leaving them plenty of heirloom tools like SnapOn, Brown and Sharp, Starrett, etc. Stuff they can pass on.

Talk to your electric service company. They are receiving subsidies for programs to convert fluorescent to LED. I just did my shop here in ILLINOIS. They converted 24 8ft high output and four 4ft fixtures. They also put an automatic drain on the compressor and fixed all the air leaks. Total job was just over $6k and it cost me $1800 which I will have back in about 14 months with the electric savings. Just a thought for ya.

Great tour, I really like the 110 on the light switch. The only thing I would think about is putting the 110 outlets on a quality (read not $2.56 on Bang-Good) relay that is controlled by the lights. That way they aren't on the same breaker you would get full amps from the drops but, that is a VERY MINOR upgrade to a great shop. I have even seen a video where a guy wired his 3-phase converter to shutoff with relays when the lights were turned off. Again, nice shop.

The Reels are already limited to 8 or 10 amps each respectively.

Great set-up. I share your dislike for extension cords. You can't move 3 feet in my shop without encountering an outlet. I bought 12 Feit 4' LED lights at Costco for $300. Great light , quiet and reduce the power bill slightly. I didn't really have a choice, as 8' T5 bulbs are getting harder to find. What kind of cabinets are you using?
@DoRiteFabrication7 жыл бұрын
I made all of the cabinets. They are all B/C 3/4 plywood, including the doors. I have little to no budget with three children on a single income. Gotta figure out how to get what you need out of what you can afford....at least that's what I keep telling myself. LOl

A question people don't like to talk about, shop insurance, do you insure your tools separately or the complete shop and tools.

How do you manage without proper three phase, I found that welding machines don't run very well off phase converters, so much so that at one point in the past I had to install a 50KVA diesel gen set to run my shop.
@DoRiteFabrication7 жыл бұрын
All of my welders run off single phase. American Rotary says that you can run any properly sized machine off their phase converters with their patented technology. We will see if it gives me full KVA and a stable arc when installed. I tend to believe them, so far their stuff has been spot on. The proof will be in the arc.

DoRite Fabrication thanks Jim. Thanks for the info. Looking up the model you suggested seems $$$ starting out? Would stick wedding be another starting point? If so, any suggestions for stick welding? Thanks so much for your time.
@DoRiteFabrication7 жыл бұрын
If you want a quality product that has a great warranty, with an amazing company to stand behind it ( a warranty is only as good as the company) I suggest the 210MP. Save your beer cans for a while, it will be worth it. I don't suggest a stick only machine for you for two reasons, 1) stick is damn near impossible for a beginner to do in anything thin ( you will probably want to do some of that with you wood working. 2) The 210MP is not only a MIG welder, it stick welds too. So by saving your pennies you will get two welders in one. If you buy a quality machine the first time, the chances of getting frustrated and giving up are waaaaay reduced. Watch Jimmy Diresta's channel, that's what he uses for all of his projects. He and I were talking recently at John Saunders open house about the 210, he feels similar to me about it. Just a note, i suggest staying away from Harbor Junk, Neverlast, and Century welders (the new ones). Although the may weld good out of the box, down the road (after hours of cussing and frustration), it WILL be more stuff for the land fill.
