I used to work at the county jail as an EMT and it really changed my perspective. YES, ABSOLUTELY, you'll encounter hardcore criminals who've committed horrific crimes. But a majority of those who came were people who made a mistake or are in a path of making constant mistakes. They are people just like me and you, working medical for the community humbled the fuck out of me, cuz anyone of us could be on the other side by one wrong choice. Moral is.. just be a good human being Thanks Larry for continuing to share and enlighten the world.

"Innocent until proven guilty" does not exist unfortunately. In my short 48 hour stint in jail for false allegations, most of the jailhouse staff looked down on me as if I was convicted already. Looked at me as if I was a piece of scum or garbage, even though my case would later be thrown out in court. I only saw 1 dude that was "crazy" and causing trouble during intake. The rest, who were there for murder, drug charges, assaults, were some of the most down to earth people I've met. The older guys who have been in and out of prison since before I was born were begging me to never come back, to find religion, and do whatever it takes to stay out. Those people, and the lady that had just been released from jail with me, who let me use her phone so I could call my family to pick me up, are people that i still remember to this day...really good people that were dealt a bad hand, but were still willing to help others. Sad how they were and are treated in the system.

I was on green st under the courthouse in Newark and it was literally a dungeon they’ve since remodeled the place but they throw you in a cell and it’s they do that because the county jail‘s too backed up and once there’s room in the county each and they take you out of there but they just throw you in a cell with bars in the wood bed and they fit up the 2 -3 people and bedbugs it was nasty disgusting. Then I was in Union count jail when Kai the Hitchhiker was there for beating to death an old gay lawyer that he met at time square and offered him to stay at his house in NJ and the lawyer drugged him and rapped Kai and Kai came to and beat the shit out of him, and bc the guy was a well liked lawyer they threw the book at Kai and they mixed up the story bc the day before the incident he went to a restaurant and had him on tape with his hair cut, and the cops said that he cut his hair after to disguise himself and he didn’t even know the guy was dead they picked them up at a bus stop and brought him back and have him on tape of him saying “wait he’s dead?” The lawyer was a predator and was doing stuff like that for years. This is a spot on perspective, coming from a guard in a county jail. Everything from the meds needing to be in original bottles, the somewhat asinine booking procedure + search procedure, the comment on shift change (Absolutely true), to the shower advice. The bit on the "Asking" from guards, we try to follow "Ask, tell, make", and I've found a bit of decency goes far and tends to reduce any issues.

I was then told to stand in this large black box machine and told to hold still, I assumed it was an xray but they never disclosed what they were doing. This was in a small rural midwestern town so it kinda' surprised me.

I laugh at some of the stuff just cuz of how real it is. But I will agree there’s a lot of stuff that goes on in those walls that ain’t good. I wish more of my fellow officers would watch your videos to see the other side. Watching your videos really opened my eyes to the other side of the coin and I think it makes me a better officer at the end of the day. Do you believe that the widespread policy of requiring deputies to spend their first year serving as jailors overly desensitizes officers to brutality (while dehumanizing criminals) more so than imparting valuable experience - or even empathy for those they arrest? Is some working balance struck for the majority; healthy or unhealthy? Lastly, do you yourself approve of the policy in general? I would truly appreciate your insight, should you have the time. Personally, I gravitate towards the theory (as an outsider to LE and erstwhile short-term inmate @ the Harris Co. Hilton) that a rookie officer spending his first year in service as a jailor is generally detrimental to his psyche, and that being an equitable, competent jailor and officer on the street respectively necessitate distinct and differing skill-sets.

Hey Larry, about the guard politely asking "Boogie" to move into a cell-- you gotta remember that not only did they know he was ready to post bond and was getting out soon, but he had mentioned how one of the C.O.s had recognized him and was a fan-- so the C.O. was really cool to him. I'd say it was probably that guard who was being really extra polite and nice, and making a pretense of "asking" Boogie to go in. If Boogie had replied "Oh, I'd rather not" or something similar, I'm betting the politeness would start to rapidly dwindle away, and anyone who has dealt with C.O.s, imo, know that dude would damn well be marched into that holding cell, like it or not... Or unceremoniously _thrown_ in, if need be.
@TheWellDweller
@TheWellDweller 2 жыл бұрын
Yeah I can say from my experience as a guard, I really try to ask first to keep things cordial, but for things like cell moves it really isn't an option and that's what I have to explain. That being said, we do have a system that shows people that inmate can't be around based on past incidents, and for example if I move someone from holding to a gen pop cell I always tell them "If you go in there and see somebody you have had problems with, tell me immediately. You won't be in trouble, and it's gonna save everybody problems." and we find an alternate arrangement.

@@TheArmaScape Good point. Having never been arrested, I’d assume having a lawyer there would indicate to the cops to be dotting their i’s and crossing their t’s though. And Boogie’s likely paying this lawyer enough to have them there anyway. Their job is to represent you in the legal system. Make them earn their money.
@TheArmaScape
@TheArmaScape 2 жыл бұрын
@@shenanitims4006 The legal system is a very complicated thing. I've been a corrections officer, a booking officer for a county jail, and I'm currently a patrol officer for a big city. I've seen a lot of aspects of the criminal justice system as a result. I can only speak from my experience though, so take it with a grain of salt. You're simply not gonna have a lawyer with you during the booking process. No lawyer in my state would do that. That's just simply not their job. A lawyer's job is to represent you in court or criminal trials. That's a little after the booking process. Before booking happens though, I have to establish upon arrest probable cause for your arrest. I take my warrant and I then have a judge ( or a night court magistrate) also establish that I had probable cause in my arrest. Simply worded, there's both the arresting officer and a judge that states that you were legally arrested. You then get booked. The booking process consists of running a criminal history check, booking you into my county jail system, receiving your warrant, getting your fingerprints in accordance to my own state law, and the next process depends on the circumstances, like bond or intoxication levels. That entire process is on you though, as the sole party. Your lawyer is not in that process stated. They, at this point (in accordance to my own state law), doesn't really matter. They will represent you during court and criminal trials. That's their real job. Lawyers only have power when it comes to a court room setting.

My experience was a bit worse- I got arrested at some else's house who was making meth. Nothing was out in the open though- he wasn't making it right then- but they found all his stuff hidden around the house after they came in. He had some kind of pills all crushed up, funnels, tubes, chemicals, scales, all kinds of stuff for making meth. So, they charged every person at the house with first degree manufacturing knowing full well several of us- myself included- had just gotten there like ten minutes prior to them arriving. They found nothing on my person, nothing in my car, and the guy who owned the house claimed it all as his and told them we had nothing to do with it. They didn't care, one of them told me "Well, I guess you were just in the wrong place at the wrong time." The DA told me- not directly but in a roundabout way- that he didn't really care about who was guilty or not- he just cared about how many charges he could make stick- how many convictions he could get. And it didn't get any better when I went to find a lawyer- I was basically given an itemized price list for what outcomes I could get- jail+ probation, just probation, or have all charges dropped. For the "Jail + prob." package it was 2500 dollars- to get all charges dropped it was 7500 dollars. So, I went to the bank and borrowed 7500 dollars to prove what everyone involved in the case already knew- that I had nothing to do with meth. I'm not playing innocent here- I was a horrible opiate addict at the time- but I never had a problem with meth. I'm clean now- been clean for over 10 years but- I was innocent of the charges they had against me. But hey, when you're an addict ppl are like "Well, he may be innocent of this but- it's karma..." no one cares. They care for 7500 dollars but... you know what I mean.

CT Lawyer. Here, we have lockups. Typically if my clients are being arrested I'll already know if they can sign themselves out, or if there's a preset bond they can make. Sometimes, there will be a bond; other times a bail commisioner sets one. If there's a chance that they won't walk right out, we arrange an early turn in, so that there's still a chance for you to be arraigned that day, typically 11-12:00 am. You'll be printed, photographed and processed. If you're being held, you'lll be held in the police lock up. As arraignment approaches, you be taken by the local department to the local courthouse, where you'll be in the lockup there. Typically there are only two- male and female prisoners. And, you'll be thrown in with the jail prisoners, when they arrive. BTW, don't turn yourself in on a Friday; there's a good chance if you don't bond, you'll do a weekend in police lockup, That's an overview of being arrested in CT. And in the name of all things Holy, have your bondsman there when you arrive!

My experience with a day in jail was several years ago. I made a bad decision and claimed unemployment even though I had a job. That went on for about 5 months. They subpoena'd my bank records, saw my paychecks going in, and busted me. They sent me paperwork which I never got saying I had to repay it. Because I didn't respond, one day I'm at work and get a voicemail saying I need to turn myself in. Once that happened it was full on panic mode. I took most of what I had in savings and a loan from my father and paid everything in full. For me, I turned myself into the DAs office. I started out in a tiny holding cell in the office while they went through my info and called ahead to get my sent to the jail. I was then cuffed and brought downstairs to a car that drove me 2 minutes to the jail to be processed. The detective before I went in said to bring as little as possible so I left my phone at home and just had my keys and a piece of paper with some phone numbers to friends and family. I did the fingerprints, pictures etc. Then I was put into a holding cell with a bunch of other guys. Someone came around to ask me a bunch of questions which I figured out was being done for bail purposes (in case they needed to set one). The detective said it would likely only take a couple hours. Boy was he wrong. I went in around 10AM and didn't get out til close to 8. 10 hours of moving from one cell to another. No clocks so no idea what time it was or any heads up as to when I would be seen. At one point, there was a change over for judges and my attorney. Luckily, my public defender was leaving for the day. I was pretty happy because the guy was a jerk and didn't seem to want to help me at all. The new guy was way better. Finally after 10 hours of waiting I was brought in front of the judge. It honestly took about 30 seconds total. Got a ticket to reappear another date and that was that. The whole process was wild. I talked to some people in the cells and they were pretty nice overall. Many were there for theft, drugs, domestic abuse. I kept to myself for the most part. Didn't have to get searched to aggressively. No crazy attitudes from the officers. But it is true you have to walk with your hands behind your back when you are being transported. It's a really dehumanizing experience. Luckily, the DA relented on the felonies and they dropped the charges to a violation since I had no record and paid the money back in full quickly. The whole experience was a huge wake up call in my life. I never wanted to experience that ever again. I can't believe people keep breaking the law and go through this often. It's just not worth the stress and frustration to be held against your will.

Great video Larry as always. I recently had to turn myself in on 3 misdemeanor charges that I had already bailed out on. My bonds company failed to let me know about my court date, and I have proof of all this, and I turned myself in with a different bondsman and my lawyer and still spent 5 days in jail. On top of that, after I saw the judge, the county clerk didn’t send my paperwork over so I had to spend another night in jail. I learned every county in every state is different. By the way this was in Grayson County Texas. Even my lawyer, who’s office was the whole top floor of the Galleria in Houston, so he’s been around the block, said that this was the most poorly ran jail he’s ever seen.

Have a friend whose another truck driver like me. He was hauling high class military loads (weapons, ammo, explosives, etc), and delivered to a Marine base in Kentucky. They surrounded him at gunpoint with rifles and he’s like “out the guns down I’ve got explosives we’ll all blow up”, so they did, but called a sheriff and he got arrested and jailed for the night all over a paid citation that didn’t fully clear in the system. He was in jail on a $1k bond all over $35. You’re right, our system needs an over haul.

The lawyer telling him to only bring his daily dosage of medication with no bottles should have definitely told him that this lawyer has no clue. @JS-wp4gs

Correction: it has nothing to do with his lawyer and everything to do with the fact that boogie is a manipulative, lying sociopath and making things up as he always does. That said, he did specifically say he was told just to bring the dosage for that day, which to be fair makes sense because he might be there for awhile before he's processed. If he's on any kind of blood pressure or thinner meds it makes sense he'd bring a single dose with him. What doesn't make sense is being told to bring them without the bottles. Thats a big no no

@@JS-wp4gs well yeah, what I said is assuming that he was telling the truth. The reason for all the searching, processing and strict structure is because as you've pointed out, people have brought all kinds of dangerous things in. The structure is to keep order inside the facility because there are people who do things to disrupt the operations of the facility. Can't really blame the system for that...thank those who came before who messed it up for everyone else.

I got arrest this past June for the first time in my life, I'm 56 years old, haven't had a traffic ticket in 15 plus years for possession, half a gram of meth 😞. Literally 2 lines if it was laid out on a table. I was handcuffed, taken to the county jail, stripped naked, squatt and cough, forced to shower, took all my jewelry, took my clothes, sprayed my hair with stuff, finger printed, put in bright orange pants, shirt and slid shoes, mug shot was put in the jail report news paper and placed in a cement cell for 5 hours that had a cement bench, toilet, and sink. No food because I was arrested at 7:30pm I had just gotten off work. I hadn't eaten since lunch. I felt very dehumanized, I'm now awaiting court, I don't qualify for a public defender because I own my home. Due to COVID I'm lost my business, car was repossessed, two years behind on property tax, $5000 behind on my electric bill and I make $13 dollars a hour facing a felony. Boy did I fuck up my life. I'm just a recreational abuser. They tried to get me to roll on a full blown drug addict that I got the crap from. I'm 3 months clean, I'll never touch it again, I'm so traumatized and scared. I can't afford a lawyer 😞

I had to serve a few days in county jail back in 2017 (minor misdemeanor). Our self-surrender was a window of time that you had to be there by. I think it was between 6-10 AM. As long as you were there in that window, you were doing it right. What I ended up finding out later is the jail I was in only really cared about the date you were processed and the DATE you are supposed to be released. The reason that distinction is important is that I was meant to serve 3 days (72 hours). What actually happened is, after midnight on the 2nd day (technically the 3rd day according to the date), the guard told me to roll up because I was getting out. I'm sure that's not the case everywhere, but I only served like 49 out of 72 hours. Being processed is a separate thing entirely, and it takes hours coming in AND going out. The whole time you wait, it will be in holding cells, which are smelly, crowded, and filthy.

Hello Larry, been watching your channel for awhile now, one reason is because my brother ended up in prison in AZ (ended up having a heart attack while in never had a chance to visit, I was suppose to visit the weekend after he passed away) so I wanted to know what he had gone through. The more I watch channels like your's the more it reminds me of my time in the army, from in processing, to arriving at boot camp and even some aspects of active duty life ( I was in mid 80's to the mid 90's) yes we had freedom but our leaders could come in at any time to inspect our rooms. There were a couple times that we had been told that the MPs with their drug dogs had gone through our rooms. There were a couple times I was a victim of violence, even threated by those who were in charge. At most it felt like we were kids and our leaders were the parents at worse we were just tools to be used and tossed away once our time was up. It felt like no one cared about us or even trying to mentor us. I cannot say what life in the military is like now, I know it was changing in the mid 90's so no telling what life is like now.

A couple things about what happened to Boogie before the incident where he shot a bullet into the air that he didnt mention in the video. For months, this guy named Frank Hassel, who is known for being a troll towards KZbinrs. he was trolling Boogie and eventually began to make threats saying that he was gonna show up at boogie's house. Well a day or two before the gunshot incident happened, Frank posted a pic of him in Boogie's town and threatened that he was gonna show up at boogie's house saying (and this is what he said) that he was gonna make the day the worst day of Boogie's life, worse than the day Boogie was molested when he was younger and then he posted another picture of the outside of Boogie's house. The night before he shows up at Boogie's house, him and Boogie were on another KZbinr's channel, Keemstar (who basically does News type videos talking about recent news within the KZbin community) they did a call in interview on Keem's channel basically Frank talking crap towards Boogie and making the threat of coming to Boogie's house. And in this interview, Boogie even tells Frank that he does own a gun and to not come to the house or else he will have his gun nearby just in case. Then the very next day, thats when Frank showed up at Boogie's house and the gun incident occurred. Thats basically the backstory leading up to what happened I was waiting to see if you were gonna make a video about this and happy that you did. In my opinion, Boogie didnt deserve what happened with him with getting in trouble for this when he was the victim in a horrible harassment experience. The Frank guy didnt even get arrested or talked to by the cops. I hope Boogie sues Frank for it, because Frank was the bad guy here. But at the same time, the law is still the law and him being arrested for doing something against is acceptable

We stopped by some creek to smoke a blunt but when we came back there was a cop next to the car screaming "put your hands up!" I turned around to see what my friend was doing and he was running into the woods. They detained me and searched for him but couldn’t find him. They came back n told me the car was stolen and since they couldn’t find him I was going to jail. I’m a trans woman and it was the most terrifying time of my life. Since I was never seen in the car technically the judge let me out after I saw her but it was still really fucked up several days. They told me the case would be open for three years so I keep thinking ima go to jail again randomly. Idk. Sorry for the novel. Love you dude take care ❤️

one of the lowest points in my life was when i lost my adhd medication and it made me borderline completely non functional ( i had a falling out with my psychiatrist, but then found myself in a situation where i couldnt find a new one ). ended up using street meth (not crystal/smoking) for about a year because it was just as effective but actually cheaper and i literally just couldnt find a psych to prescribe me the normal medication even though i could afford it (and trust me a private psych is about as expensive or less expensive than a meth habit). i hated what it was doing to my brain and could feel the damage it was doing to me, but without it i couldnt even pick myself up off the floor to shower or eat, let alone do things like pay bills even though i literally had the money to pay the bills, my executive dysfunction without the meds/drugs was so bad that my brain was incapable of coping and sort of just completely "shut down"" (btw for those that dont know, in the us adhd medication is just legal amphetamine salts, not exactly the same as street meth and certainly not anything like crystal but still basically "legal" meth-- a lot of other ppl with adhd i know also call it that). i quit a long time ago but there is one very unique reason a person would be driven to do that.

It really amazes me how so many people interchange the terms jail & prison. We know he wasnt in prison because he was never convicted or sentenced to over a year yet he sits there and keeps exclaiming the term prison all willy nilly. Also to touch on the Miranda rights topic because I hear so many ppl claim that "if they dont read your rights then you instantly beat the case" blah blah blah, officers DO NOT have to read Miranda rights if the arresting officer has reasonable suspicion to believe you committed whatever crime they're charging you with.

When I was booked on falsified charges they took my shoes and made me stand around barefoot on the cold concrete for 7 hours. The room was maybe 45 degrees. The cops were playing grabass for most of that time. Literal grabbing each others ass for hours. Fucking perverts. Once the bondsman showed up they gave him the runaround for over an hour. The only thing that wasn't total dogshit was the other guy in booking was pretty cool. He sat there singing blues songs for hours. 7 hours while I was there he sang softly. No way it should have taken 7 hours. I've been booked for other stuff in a different county. Lesser charges. Out in an hour. 7 hours was bullshit. That county is well known for having the worst police that have all been fired from surrounding areas.

As old as Boogie is and for as long as he’s been on the internet and for all the stuff he’s gone through, I’m pretty surprised at his extreme naïveté when it comes to, well, common sense stuff. Don’t bring the prescription bottle with your medication, just bring enough for the day in a baggie? Walking around a jail without a pair of shoes? Not bringing his lawyer or ANY kind of legal consultant to any of the paperwork or touring processes? I didn’t think somebody would need to be arrested before to know better than this.

Hey Larry! I’ve just thought of this question. I hope you see this. I’m really curious about this. Did being in prison for 11 years give u ptsd? I know your career now is talking about prison and your experience. But have u ever had like nightmares, flashbacks that made u upset or a feeling of sorrow and sadness? I wanted to ask this because in your videos it doesn’t seem like that at all but I wanted to see if it’s different outside of KZbin

In some states, it's not 365 day limit. Here, misdemeanor or felony charges up to maximum of 2-1/2 years is County, while over 2-1/2 years is state prison.

That attorney is an idiot. Tells him to go alone with prescription medication, not in the bottle? Bring prescription pills to a jail in an unmarked baggie. Even driving around one should always have prescription meds in labelled bottle. To a country correctional unit? Loose pills...NO. That's cause to file a complaint against the attorney and request partial retainer back.

I know this is an older one, but I want to mention where some things have changed. I just did a few weeks in county here over a DWI, and I have to say, during the process, they treated me with absolute dignity here in Central Upstate New York, from booking, to my lawyer negotiating with the DA, to even the jail time itself. There were definite problems, which I am still dealing with the fallout from, as medications and all were not handled the way I needed, which has negatively impacted my mobility, but those problems were structural, in the designs of the systems involved, not the individual people working with them. I was always respectful and kept appropriate distance with the Deputies running the jail, the medical staff, etc., and they treated me with the same distanced respect. Of course, I was going in as an old guy who needed a cane to even really walk, so yeah, your mileage may vary, but I thought maybe hearing some improvements might be a good thing....

Good timing since I may end up back in there or prison soon. My wife wanted me outta the house so she called the cops and told them I was threatening her, with a knife. Which is a total lie. I was charged with a felony and spent five weeks in jail until I get bailed out. Now I'm facing the charge in a jury trial. I don't know the date yet but I do not have money for a good lawyer and all due to it all being taken from me, by my wife. It is a felony charge with a maximum of 5 years in prison. Of course I know the maximum is unlikely but I am innocent so no time is acceptable to me. My 20 yr old son just died. I have a lot on my plate and in the meantime my court appointed lawyer is doing absolutely nothing as far as I can tell. And I asked him what my chances are and he said that she seems like a nice person and comes off as credible and believable. And I'm like WTF... Ever heard of Ted bundy, Jeffrey dahmer etc etc... They seemed really nice and believable too. So that didn't exactly give me a lot of confidence. I have a lot of stupid misdemeanors throughout my life but no felonies. My only violent charges are a assault from when I got in a fight back in 1999 I think it was. And back in 2006, my wife made a similar call and I was charged with domestic violence. In this case I was guilty of what I was accused of. She threw a remote control at me and I reacted by grabbing a bag of coins on the counter and threw bank at her and hit her in the head. It was reflex. Of course it left a tiny cut on her head that was bleeding a little. I didn't bleed. So off to jail. They dropped it down to a disorderly conduct I think it was. I didn't have to go for a trial, I just pleaded out because I didn't want to mess with it at the time. So of course the DA is trying to act like I am a monster due to these two things that have happened in my life way back. They are the only violent offenses I have and they happened a long time ago. Of course they are acting like it happened just yesterday. My court date has not been announced yet, the courts are busy with covid and all. But my lawyer seems pretty useless so far. Not sure if I would get a better one even if I did try to switch public defenders. Doesn't seem like they have a lot of motivation to do their job. Anyone have any advice? The DA offered a plea of 6 months and 2 years probation. I didn't accept. I live in Maine. There isn't any real proof, just her word against mine. There was no violence. We did have an argument but she just twisted to make it worse so I would get her moved from the house. They are saying I have a prior history so it makes me look terrible. Is there any groups or anything out there that you can get for support with things like this since my lawyer isn't doing much of anything? Any help or direction would be appreciated. Thank you.

I don't like doing the grammar nazi bit. I only do it to help you out. Your post needs to be spaced out and condensed a little bit. It's what Im doing now. If you want people to really listen to what you're saying, grammar is important. You already have one poster who said he couldn't get past the first six sentences. I do hope things get better with what you're going through. Good luck with everything.

It largely depends on who the arresting agency is. If it's city police, that's where you'd turn yourself in. If it's the Sheriff's office, you'd go to the county jail... At least in Michigan. The best thing to keep in mind during this process is if what is about to come out of your mouth rude or hostile, keep it closed. You don't have to say a single word during the process. While being cooperative WILL NOT guarantee a smooth stay, being uncooperative WILL guarantee your stay is a rough one. Don't share your case details, jailhouse snitches are rampant and all they need is enough info to make their snitching plausible. I don't care if it's someone you know from the world, DONT TALK ABOUT YOUR CASE

@28:21 -- This dude could have saved a lot of time, headaches, and nerve-wracking Panic by going to jail with his lawyer and his bail bondsman in tow and the bondsman can start paperwork to sign him out as he's being processed. Then by the time he's all done being processed he's already free to go just get your property and get the f*** out
