It is a bit more complicated. The club usually gets around 10-15% from shirt sales so obviously moar betterer. The more successful and attractive the club is garners a bigger kit deal. The thing that can help pay for a big name signing is often a bigger interest from sponsors. PSG for instance or a Manchester United with Messi and Ronaldo will get a lot more interest from companies.
@1234dave43213 жыл бұрын
Whilst I understand that shirt sales won't help pay for transfers, but surely overall sponsorship deals must increase massively when a big name player such as Ronaldo and Messi join a club. There's no doubt that Man utd are the kings of getting sponsorship deals and milk their team for every last cent. With Ronaldo who has the most instagram followers in the world and earns the most out of any influencer I struggle to believe that it would not atleast offset a huge part of his overall cost. Not to mention ease over relations with Glazers and fan base, which from a publicity standpoint who knows how much that's worth. Just my opinion

@ANTSEMUT13 жыл бұрын
I think that's the point being made that it all about the image rights and what the club and kit manufacturer negotiated over.
@Tomwithnonumbers3 жыл бұрын
Yes, but Messi is only contracted to PSG for two years and Ronaldo only stayed at Juventus for 3 years. By the time you're renegotiating, you're negotiating from a position where they know the player won't be at the club for most of the period of the new contract.
@ondank3 жыл бұрын
@@Tomwithnonumbers Assuming they wait to the end of the contract. I will bet money that when Juve signed Ronaldo they went back to sponsored and told them to cough up. They sold half a million more shirts then they were expecting and there may even be escalator clauses already in place to account for that additional marketing value. Likewise, the additional profile of more followers and viewers will remain in part even after the star leaves. People will tune in to see how Juve do without him. Even now he is gone, they will still get value from him having been there.
@Tomwithnonumbers3 жыл бұрын
@@ondank If it was financially successful for Juventus, they wouldn't have let him leave. It's kind of obvious that shirt sales don't pay for Ronaldo's wages - if they did he'd have a terrible agent. Ronaldo got paid all the financial earnings Juventus were guaranteed because Ronaldo has the negotiating position to demand that Juventus took the gamble that Ronaldo would bring them enough success in competitions and in reputation to balance out the heavy financial hit. So far they seem to have lossed that gamble, but as you said maybe it pays off longer term. However if they lose the league this year, it probably won't

I once had an argument about this with a friend over Pogshit a few years ago. I was (and still am) sick of his crap and the argument took a turn to the ROI or waste of money United paid for him. He was quick to point out that the shirt sales itself have already covered the 100mil for Pogshit... I was so dumbfounded and speechless when he said that, so much that he took my silence for being correct and that I had no more points to argue. That's what a typical Pogshit symphatiser looks like.

I have long been telling people it's a fallacy that clubs make a lot of money from the sales of shirts. Adidas must be pretty pleased about Ronaldo coming back. I guess the only thing that helps is that I imagine the club gets good deals for the club shops and lettering etc is usually extra... Imagine those are almost pure profit. Still when you look back at shirt sales increases after a big signing, even if all those sales were via the club shops featuring the new player it's never close to their transfer fees.

Might I suggest burning the garden as a whole, then after the skeleton has also burned along with the garden, ideally the cursed item that binds it to the garden has also burned away. However, you should also dig into the ground to make sure that there are no cursed items placed there by your rivals. After making sure of that you have a garden that is ready to be planted again, without the scary skeleton. and that will provide you with hours of daily fun so you don't have to make these videos and that may stop or slow down your descent into madness.

Maybe would have been useful to mention, as a contrast, the current Liverpool deal with Nike, which has a lower guaranteed amount per year (£30 million) but a higher percentage of sales (20%). That means that a signing that drives shirt sales would have a more signficant financial benefit for Liverpool then for other clubs / deals, even if it would still likely not cover most transfer fee costs.
