Be sure to run Cmd prompt as Admin. Worked like a cham. Did the update about 5 days ago, everything stable, but nice knowing I have an extended period to rollback. After 60 days Windows 11 will automatically delete the Windows Old Folder. If all is well after 60 days will delete my 21H Image backup and create a new backup Image of the 22H Install. Thanks for all your hard work and tips. Always spot on!

Regarding Window ISOs, you CAN generate an ISO for your specific build. If you search online for ""uup dump" you can find some guides on how to use it. It's basically a site that generates a script for you, which you run locally to download officially available windows components to build the ISO. I had an issue with a Win 11 PC that had a broken windows update, and wanted to "repair" my installation using an official ISO. The problem was that my Win 11 build was _newer_ than what Windows Media Creation Tool was providing, so it wouldn't let me "keep personal files" during the repair. With "uup dump" I was able to build an ISO for my specific build and successfully repair my install and keep personal files. (reposting this comment since the original one had a link and was possibly flagged)

Great video. Windows 11. An operating system made for the benefit of Microsoft and not the end-user. As time goes on it seems to get more problematic/troublesome all the time. It’s harder to use with more bells and whistles which I don’t use at all.

I agree, it has been going downhill with windows since XP. It has just become an absolute mess of a Bloatware OS. 90% of the crap they add is completely useless anyway and is added to be able to spy on you.

I rolled back my windows 11 Pro update yesterday as it caused some issues I am still sorting out. Now, today, I got a notice from windows that it is going to auto update my system...again. I paused my updates but, it only let me do it for 3 days I think it was. WTF? I do not want this update and had to roll back once already. I do NOT like not having control over my own computers!

Personally every major Windows update, I run disk cleanup and purge everything. Never had any issues on my or thousands of client machines. I've seen client initiated rollback fail too many times and then I'm called to clean up the mess or figure out why it failed. I have seen it work flawlessly though. Not moving to Windows 11 until the program menu is configurable. My way of working is technical and quick, not flowery and slow.

@@Britec09 I meant to say, I never had any issues due to a Windows update whereby I had to rollback to a prior version, that includes Windows 8. I didn't buy into Windows 8 until it was Windows 8.1 so I saved myself grief. As a safety measure, I don't recommend users (or myself) to upgrade to the next major version until one year has passed. There's no hurry and alot of potential trouble to miss. I'm not lucky, just prudent.

If you have to do that after EVERY update, then it might be useful and a bit of a time saver to create a .bat file that'll execute the command whenever it is launched, so that you only have to load it and it does the whole process for you without you having to type anything. 😉👍

This yet another thing that shows that you really should keep all your own data on a different partition from the Windows OS and image as a backup. Ideally, you would also like to be able to backup and restore the partition with Windows on it too but that is very hard to do. On every update there is always the risk that Windows will be so broken you can't even run it well enough to roll it back. You need to have alternative media you can boot from.

Fortunately for years I've been using the Media Creation Tool and downloading the latest Windows ISO to the point I have Windows 10 1507 up to 21H2 (no versions missed) and of course both releases of Windows 11 saved. Thanks, I'll definitely use this tip. I normally do complete image backups using Acronis about once a month and before any major update. I always keep copies of important data on external media. Thank you for the answer Brian. This is the first time your cmd prompts have not worked. I have tried both the Get and Set commands both with the DISM and DISM.exe. With the Get command I get error 87. With the Set command I get error 1168. Thank you for your time. Watch you all the time, you give out great info 👍.

@@Britec09 same here, doesn’t matter which of the two commands I use, I get those errors. It says DISM log file can not be found, but it is for sure there where it should be

Hold on, after several restarts of my laptop (6 or 7 times) it now worked like a charm. Thanks for this

Maybe you haven’t heard about it, but there is something called system image and bunch of good and cheap software packages can do just that. 🙂

LOL. At 2:22 your Windows 11 feels it important to tell you it is "world octopus day." Have to say, I didn't know! Anyway, thanks for the tip.

Hmmmm..... wondering after changing to 60 days and there is an update within the 60 days, if this can revert to 10 days because of the update and I guess you loose the opportunity to roll back to the version you preferred.

i have not yet updated to win 11. (still on 10 --21h2) and I will not be updating, until absolutely positively necessary. i do have a question though, using this command could extend the time beyond 60 days? or if not, could you keep repeating this command every 59 days to basically have infinite rollback capabiities?

Great video. Thanks for the info, and all of the comments. Fortunately we have options, even the option of no computer or phone. 😂 FYI, if you try to set more than 60, it just ignores without error message. Has anyone tried to set after a few days? And does it still go to 60?

When I upgraded to Windows 11 they told me I have 90 days to go back to Windows 10. Half a month ago they installed Windows 11 22H2. When I wanted to go back, which should be possible, cause I am within the 90 day period I noticed, that it isn't possible anymore. So I am waiting at the moment, that the laptop my company gave me will be fully set up and switching my personal laptop to linux. That was a huge fu from Microsoft to me.

Love what you do but couldn't get this to work for me. Windows 10 v21H2 Wished I knew about this before (if I could get it to work) as Windows is now annoying me with a consistent blue screen "Getting Started"on every restart. If it wasn't for games I'd drop Windows in the bin where it belongs.

Hello, i really like your video's i just have a little request, i am blind and could not figure out what you typed i know sighted people can see this on their screen. It would be nice if short commands like this would be spoken. Its those really small things that can make such a differnce. I just bought a brandnew pc wihtout a screen cause i dont need it, unfortunately its not ossible to set up narrator until some settings have been set. I understood that narrator would start up brandnew out of the box just like voice over on an apple device but taht doesnt seem so. I now have a monitor cable on the way and will need help of a sighted person to just cick / skip throuhg the first screens til narrator option is available and thats it .. till that time i just sit here waiting .. lol :) i wish those easy to fix things would just be sroted out sometimes thanks for reading mak
