IS IT "SOFT" TO WANT TO WELCOME MORE PEOPLE INTO THE FGC?
The topic of wanting more FGC beef came up on Social Media, saying it was better in the "old days" and that the FGC has gotten too soft these days. But is that really true? Is the FGC soft? Was what happened in the past really the glory days? Or was it... like... not cool at all? James talks about it from his viewpoint!

I've always hated this argument. The problem with heels is real people get caught in the crossfire who just want to play the game.

Answering the title: NO, i'm personally don't need more 'beef' right now. I mean, rivalry is cool and all but there's no need to get more personal over a video games. 20 years ago it's funny to see grown up man like *Viscant* and *LTG* trash talked to each other to the point they almost throw hands. But what's the point of that if they don't show high level play? Heck, even Viscant himself doesn't want people to remind him of that timeline again. So I personally prefer the FGC put more effort on labbing and give us high level play over some beef and drama. Beside, we want more people to join FGC and plays fighting games. But how on earth we can achieved that if we wants more beef and drama which only draw away people from FGC and fighting games.

I prefer chicken and pork but what do I know? Seriously, the issue with "FGC beef" is that it's too convenient a way for people to disguise their bad attitudes. Some people are arrogant, narcissistic, both or worse and have over inflated egos. There is a difference between friendly rivalries and actual animosity, both of which can be called a beef depending on context. Friendly rivalries are fine but when people actually get too serious over a loss or the thing I hate most is when people berate someone for the way they play, that stuff needs to end. So what if dude is spamming shots all day! You can either find a solution since you are sooooo good at the game anyway, or you need to try a different activity that isn't so bad for your mental like violin or weightlifting.

beef is childish. Just play the game and enjoy it idk why people want to stir up controversies. Also beef in the FGC is the easiest ways for good players to get banned because of some verbal altercations on social media.

I get where people are coming from with "beef" but when I hear and think of beef, I automatically go straight to rap & hood mentality. That's a me thing, don't harp on it too much lol. Here in the FGC, I don't think beef is needed. I think we're done with the days of K-Brad vs Wolfkrone. They legit didn't like each other. And as long as people keep complaining about Punk, we'll never go back to those days. I also think the FGC is relatively young these days, or rather modern FGC is young. Most of your old heads are still playing the game they hold dear. Sure you have some that try out these newer games, but not many of the old heads are really sticking with them. Grudge matches are always going to happen. Be it on or off camera. Money matches and dream match scenarios on the other hand need to come back. We're too tournament focused imo. That's a topic for another day. I don't think the FGC is soft. I just think the FGC is young. Ain't Paladin 16? You don't need beef when kids are involved anyway. If you're trying to get back to grassroots, let Punk be Punk and stop whining. You want him to stop talkin shit, beat him. 😅

Now we've all grown up, and we are mentoring the new folks coming in so i get why its not as imature as it was back then. But man i do miss when you could have an entire room full of people singing "somebody's getting fucked" to one guy that is playing because he comes from a rival area.

@@watchmesquatch Sounds like any other sport with rival fans talking trash to the oter team. It wasn't dumb and toxic for us back then because unlike today the majority of us knew how to take it on the chin and give one back. Some people didn't get along that way but most did. Today's gen is the total opposite. Most crack and fold because they seek the opinions and feelings of others for personal validation. That's why anything "negative" is called "toxic" nowadays whereas back in our time it was "don't take that shit personally".

Kbbq pork belly is so good. Bulgogi is good, but getting that pork belly super crispy.... As part as the beef/soft part, they are two sides of the same coin. You can't have beef without people being soft. If you go to the channel Secret Base and watch the Beef History episodes on Shaq, for example, the reason why he beefs with everyone is that he is so soft that he takes any slight at him as the ultimate disrespect and carries that grudge with him forever. Thin-skinned pitchers that don't like their opponent's celebration if they hit a homer will throw a 90 mph projectile at them for 'showing them up' and 'disrepcting the unwritten rules of the game.' That is being soft 💯. Rivalries are great, relationships are great. Mena and AngryBird are so good because they are friends, and that friendship and rspect was borne out of the other person standing in their way. That is a amazing, it drives their play to new heights, which is what we want to see. Internet toxicity, sneak disses... that is petty stuff that children do.

First, yes people have gone insane. Social media has screwed up almost *EVERYTHING* today. Companies have been interacting with the commnity for a very long time. It's just today its more open due to having such large platforms. Decades ago there were books that had the phone numbers and mailing addresses of various game companies in the US or their US offices and you could actually write to them and sometimes get a response. Nintendo specifically did this through "Nintendo Power" as well as their 800 hotline.

This is usually kind of a thin line, because we don't need stuff faked, but I do think a little "beef" or even just rivalries are needed. I follow games a lot less atm besides sf6, but there just doesn't seem to be many if at all. I was someone who didn't like mena at all in sf5 (from what I had seen), but he's also shown to have grown so much, but there is that added layer too of "backing it up" so well that you just have to respect it. The fchamp KBR thing was overboard, but him vs infrit was significantly more "acceptable", because champ didn't make such a scene over it, just played, beat ass, then called him a scrub lol. SF4 didn't really have "thuggery", but it felt like there was rivalries all over the place. Most notably, ones like Daigo vs infiltration, pr rog infiltration (even though they didn't fight thaaaat much), snake eyez xian, fuudo bonchan, and maybe earlier in the game's life Justin and fuudo. Even if some definitely mattered more than others, it was just that slight elevation of "drama" that made the matches more interesting. Also when people actually popped off, it was usually pretty chill all things considered lol, and never really felt fake or put on, because you could just tell how much it meant to the players to win their stressful match. A lot of hands in the face kind of stuff, fist pumps, or I think of tokido's rare popoff when he beat fuudo at canada cup. Comparatively, I think of mvc2 days, and a lot of those had people screaming and roasting each other nonstop. I often thing of that one of Justin winning then getting on the mic and saying "any amount of money I'll body you"(I think he cussed him out too) or that megaman steve vs fantatiq one where they get all up in each others faces. Oh and can't forget, was it noel brown? who lunged at a guy and punched him? Early in mvc3's life I believe. We don't need that side. And hell, even from what I've seen from strive, it is suuuuuper respectful stuff when people play. Hugs and all that, in interviews people are just bigging each other up instead of themselves. Even that kind of thing increases interest in a set. Its like those wrestling feuds where people are "fighting" just to see who the better person is, and leaving it at that. Kind of cool in a way.

I like real rivalries. I don't want people to get "hurt" or cars ruined from sugar. However I am 100% sick and tired of all of this "hugging" each other crap that just makes me sick and tired of it. I don't mind if you shake hands afterwards or don't even, however it's gotten way too soft and I despise the fact that players can't be themselves and are restrained. I feel that we have a potential goldmine with fighting games because this could be UFC like (not saying that it needs to get to that level of intensity) or boxing like with personalities, with characters, with different people. However we're all conditioned to now be like "Daigos" or whatever. What I want is more naturalness to the game, which was way more prevalent back in the days when it didn't get full corporation. I miss the Money Matches like Sanford vs Duc, or Clockwork vs Neo...those were absolutely AMAZING matches which allowed players to be who they were, real beef, but not to the point of violence. Real feelings and emotions, and the pursuit of wanting to be absolutely #1. I loved the West Coast vs East Coast of the MvC2, those were fun, and it drove competition and the the players to heights that is hard to reach. Now a days, you look at someone wrong, and their is some hit to that player...it's like the Modern NBA. We want things like the early 90s NBA, with the Bulls vs Knicks rivalries, their are reasons why viewerships for the NBA go off in the playoffs, because players are really allowed to play. I agree that their should never EVER be violence or something that could financially cripple someone. However giving people the ability to be themselves is something that has been handicapped severely with the current rules and regulations that have now been enforced. That's why things like F.Champ vs KBR Money Match was so sweet, because it led to the Grand Finals in which KBR redeemed the loss over Champ after being mocked by him. Definitely wouldn't even be allowed today though. Things like what happened to F. Champ being blacklisted are things that I will never agree with (I know others disagree, however we lost a Top-Tier player with this), even to Infiltrations case, which was severely greyed, especially when the evidence came out. I just feel like we have a lot of untapped potential if we allow people to just be who they are, barring the violence, or "sugar."

What I will say is that the moments and stories don't have as much of the energy. I was not deep in following FGC goings on back in the MvC3 days as I was just a Blazblue guy, but I remember seeing a video of the Filipino Champ v KaneBlueRiver feud because someone cared enough about it to document it, and it was great viewing. FChamp was being an absolute asshole yes, but KBR kept with him, and when he came out on top, FChamp shut up, and held that L. See that is what should happen and what we are usually use to getting. People may talk the craziest amount shit, but it's all settled with the sticks and not hands, not with any real threats of violence. Does it possibly push people away? Maybe, but I feel like that comes with circles of competition, and people will always have disagreements. It always comes back to handling business in the game.

"Mental harm" is the dumbest thing iv heard , this is why the fgc is soft af cuz anything and everything is considered "Mental harm" now n days smh
@UltraChenTV
@UltraChenTV Ай бұрын
You’ll often find that mental harm has the most lasting impact. You have to understand that when you attack someone personally, it may just seem like an isolated incident to a bystander, but if it’s attacking something such as gender identity, it’s NOT an isolated incident and it builds up over time. Brushing that aspect off as “soft” is exactly one of the biggest problems we have today. People are not being cared for enough psychologically. Even a lot of the physical harm we experience have harsher long-term psychological effects than lingering physical issues. So it may be the “dumbest thing” you’ve ever heard now, but I really do hope you take it into serious consideration. You can really help a loved one one of these days with a reformed outlook on this.
