Ali, spot on once again. In a way, this IS Spurs. Only Spurs can gift two winless teams their first win while defeating them would have meant a real boost in the table. What we need is to get rid of this literal spursiness, this weird DNA that seems to be sticking to the club - and this is the opposite of getting rid of Postecoglou. If in recent years, one man seemed to have it all to make this club into what we want it to be, it's Ange. We don't need our Tottenham back, we need our Tottenham, full stop. A team that actually competes on a regular basis while playing good football. Which takes time, but we'll be there.

Cheers Ali - constructive as usual. I genuinely think that Ange is the guy for the job, regardless of our poor results. I have to question the players mind-sets, this is now a priority. We have seen this over and over again at our club, and I wonder if there is a problem with the backroom staff not giving the players a tough time when they are not performing up to the required standard. The top 4 looks rocky ..... but that said, we're only 3 points away from 3rd position with a better goal difference and only 6 points from runners-up !!! Come on guys, sort yourselves out.

It’s also the players they buy. Solanke will score goals but won’t take the team to the next level. Brennan Johnson is not a £40m+ player. Romero is probably trying to engineer a move to Barca or Real Madrid. Ange needs a plan b as the high press doesn’t work on all teams. Can I make a serious point about the team yesterday. It was basically other than Solanke a team that could have been picked last season, even the subs that were used were part of last season's ultimate disappointment. So although we have made the squad younger and increased its depth for the future, we have failed to massively improve the starting 11 or first 14, as it's basically the same as last season. So if you pick the exact same players as last season, employ exactly the same tactics as last season why are we then surprised when they are as inconsistent as last season and fail again like last season?

And yet, according to the wishes and priorities of a majority of current Spurs fans, Burkinshaw, our manager in each of those seasons, who oversaw relegation in his first season, would have been sacked before he had ever had a chance to lead us to so much glory. Let us finish 10th this season and win a pot, it's only one season for God's sake!!! Fantastic analysis from around 40 minutes onwards. Absolutely spot on. I live in Melbourne these days but saw my first Spurs game in 1974, Martin Chivers et al and my absolute hero Pat Jennings. But over those 50 years Spurs have largely been rubbish. They were mid-table at best for almost 15 years prior to Jol and Redknapp. So let’s be realistic. Levy has built an amazing stadium but has presided over a period of total mediocrity apart from when he lucked out with Poch. To chuck out Ange now, or before it’s had a decent amount of time to succeed or otherwise, is just going back to the same old process and we’ll be stuck on this endless doom loop of temporary success but ultimate failure.
@altair859810 күн бұрын
As usual Ali you offer soothing balm and empathy with the supporters . You are objectively critical, not going over the top (I get fed up with the 'Ange out' or various players 'out' after each disappointment - they have the attention spans of gnats). Somehow teams like Liverpool have a continuity culture which Spurs have lacked for years. To be realistic we are going to average one or two injuries or suspensions per game so Ange will never have all the resources he'd like for any particular match. The squad needs further reinforcements. In terms of points, win-loss-win- loss is better than four draws says I, trying to look on the bright side...and for my sanity I must try to apply Kipling's maxim that one 'should meet triumph and disaster and treat those two imposters just the same' which is very necessary when following Spurs.

Totally unacceptable performance in a game where a win would have put us third. It feels like too many of the players do not care enough and to use the old cliché are not playing for the badge. A lot of supporters used to criticise players like Dier, Skipp, Winks and Tanganga as not being talented enough and could not wait to see them leave the club but I do not think those players would have performed so weakly as those on the pitch on Sunday. I bet that Southampton cannot wait for December 15th to play us and receive their Christmas present.

Why can’t we put out a balanced team? Why can’t we adjust mid-game, when a team out passes us or parks the bus? Why can’t we roll our sleeves up and match a so-called lesser team’s intensity? Why can’t we remind ourselves that we are one game away from fucking up? I want a team that can both attack and defend. ANY team knows we will attack 95% of the time, leaving space for anyone who can beat our press. They also know that our corners come to nothing, yet we can be bullied at their corners, like we’ve only just started playing the game. Ange needs to take a long hard look at himself. Ange was 100% correct when he said in the press conference (maybe it was in answer to your question) that it was his responsibility to help the players perform at the right level. We have seen how good spurs can be when they perform at the right level. Totally dominant, exciting football. Its not Angeball, or the tactics, shape, skill of the team that is failing, its the players motivation to find that deep level of concentration and physical preparedness. And ange has always been the unparalleled best at finding the right words to motivate his players, this game would have been a classic case...and somehow he has misjudged what motivates premier league players...its not the same. Im starting to believe the doubters who said angeballl won't work in the premier league. His method works in almost every other sports environment, but unfortunately the high paid prima donnas of the prenier league arent motivated to perform by the same stimulus as less spoiled brats in the farmers leagues. Watching at work not signed in but had to get on and 👍🏼 One thing I want to mention is Vic needs to catch these balls instead of punching away, or deflecting away. Otherwise he's solid.

I find it ridiculous that there are so many "win now" supporters amongst us, as if we are serial winners. If a manager is never given time to form a project, truly form and develop a project, then we just end up in the constant half-baked cycle of squads. I truly loathe watching performances like the one against ipswich, i do, but I am willing to give Ange time to iron these things out. And before people come in saying he's had time, Arteta didnt immediately produce, pepe didnt immediately produce and nor did Klopp. Stop creating a mythical scenario in which one manager wipes a club of all its recent history in record time. Theres nothing I'd love more than tottenham to get a trophy, but I would much prefer a team that is always contesting for accolades rather than a one off victory (Leicester didn't magically kick on did they). Thanks for the video Ali, always good to hear your more level-headed thoughts on whats happening and what you're seeing. I look at the team and I see a team that is not far off being competitive, small changes now might get us truly firing. COYS

I thought we were leaderless . But then how hard is it for a group of highly paid professional footballers to realise their tempo and intensity is too low and to put a bit more in. So slack.

I actually think Ange must be training them too hard or something. The amount of injuries we get in the season is not normal

Any longterm damaged Spursfan will tell you that you can’t play any form of 2:nd eleven. Given any attempt to rotate the ”squad” we know we’ll lose regardless of opposition. We have no depth and that’s been true basically forever.

'I want to take the biggest bite possible' was Ange Postecoglou's reply to how much success he would like this season. Unfortunately, currrently his squad and his management doesn't have the appetite. We Spurs fans have to decided whether we want to win a cup or challenge for a top four finish. Sadly, this season we can't have both. I find it funny that you have fans saying all I want is a cup this season (I'm one of them ) and then throws their toys out if we lose in the league. This Tottenham squad can't cope with battling on all fronts, We haven't got two teams that can alternate between competitions seamlessly like Chelsea. They are lucky that the quality in the Conference league allows them to comfortably compete with their second string in Europe's wooden spoon competition. Spurs, with Champions League available through the Europa league can't, and are finding it difficult balancing a EPL charge with their continental efforts. Whether that's the squad not being large/strong enough or Ange's decision making. He does have to take some of the blame. I just think Tottenham fans who want us to win something, need to take that into account. We can't have our the cake and eat it. #COYS

I totally agree - the problem is that there's simply too much football in a season now; how many hundreds of games are being played over the opening stages of the three European tournaments, just to reduce the number of teams from 32 to 24,for example? It's unsustainable. Sadly, injuries will be the deciding factor on which teams will win honours this season, and for the foreseeable future.

It has to be time for the owners to sell to somebody more ambitious. They’ve created an incredible business and they’ll make billions, but they don’t have the ambition to win things with a football club. Ange can be blamed for a lot a things but he’s just another in the long list of failed managers. We are the 7th richest club in world football but won’t buy world class players and won’t pay wages for top talent. This leaves us with average players which can only lead to average results. The summer window just gone was nothing short of appalling, and our squad is still short in certain positions. Enough is enough now. Thanks to ENIC for stabilising the club, building a wonderful stadium and training facilities, and bringing us to the cusp of glory on a few occasions. It’s time for change though!

I think we need to adapt to the situation we are faced with Alasdair. For that to happen we need both the personnel and the tactics to do it. We cant ONLY rely on VDV to keep bailing us out, because when he isn't in the side, we have no way to stop teams from whacking a ball over the top and putting us in trouble. A high line only works with the right players to do it, and as for time wasting to throw us off our game, or the way Woolwich play, we have to out think them! That's were I criticise Ange, and the lack of players to do the job when there are injuries, I blame Levy et all for! We are paying top notch for ticket prices, I think we are right to demand better!

Q&A, can you ask to do a 1 on 1 interview with ange? Seems like everyone else is! Would love to see it! Also whats the leadership status with Maddison?
@JimNutron10 күн бұрын
Stop inverting the fullbacks, drop the line back 5 yards, get a defensive number 6 and I guarantee you we look more solid without sacrificing our attacking principles. There’s a reason not one team in this league plays 2 inverted fullbacks bar us, it doesn’t work. How can Ange not see that it’s worrying.

Some things I'd love to see post i-break: Dragusin with VdV at CB, Bissouma with Bentancur in the double-pivot, and Spence with Odobert on the right side. I think some new partnerships at some crucial areas of the pitch would give us a real lift in spirit and in outcome.

This was SO frustrating. Prior to the game I had mapped out a path to 3rd place but then had to stop myself and consider our remarkable ability to stumble and trip up over “lesser” teams - sadly in this respect Spurs did not disappoint. Fans do need to also stop booing at the end of games as this does nothing to support the squad. With a number of really tough fixtures between now and the end of the year we really could have done with the win yesterday 😂

Yesterday's game was a perfect example of the flaws in this system. This is a team that have not won once in 10 games. The young manager to his credit changed his formation, exploited our weakness (space left in behind and on flanks ) and played with hunger and heart. Regardless of what our opposition is we give up too many chances playing this way. Seems the only time we win with it is when we face a team who's strike force cannot finish good chances. Stop inverting wing backs, let them overlap so at least if they get caught out of position, the winger isn't 500,000 miles away and can apply pressure instantly or cut the channel off for the balls that keep on opening us up in 1-3 passes.

It was all too familiar was it not? Do our players save themselves for international duty? The problems ultimately come from higher up, but the manager is far from blameless too. We are like the Dallas Cowboys of the EPL, football doesn’t seem to be the priority.

Need players that put us first. Romero needs to go. Every international break he puts in a sub par performance beforehand. Except this season he's done it every game. He's supposed to be vice captain ffs.

@Alasdair - two questions for the Q&A please 1. Has the £50m been drawn down by Tottenham yet? If not, has it expired and can it still be used? 2. If we do secure investment, whether through Amanda Stavley or elsewhere, is that for the team or to help fund the hotel?

In my opinion I think Ange needs to keep doing what he’s doing we all know Tottenham do this type of thing as long as we get a trophy this season I think we are still on track but if we don’t get a trophy and have a bad start to next season then we can start asking questions thanks for the upload ali as painful as it must of been doing it 😂 👍🏻

Ali brings sense to this crazy season .. fans needs to be patient and ride out the storm.. Spurs are doing well but it’s moments of lapse of concentration that ruins the game. Spurs conceding goals in the same areas has to be looked at. Porro n Johnson has an Ariel weakness.. 50/50 spurs come off 2nd best.. it’s like the players are scared to get hurt.. Ange should toughen them up and it’s not through Preety football.

I've never felt such anger-it's not about losing, but the way we lose and the attitude we bring to the game. We seemed directionless, lacking leadership, and appeared worn out. Ange looks beaten and also worn out.

Players eyes focussed on the international games. Every time the international break comes. Trying not to get injured, playing within themselves. Premiere league fits around the international schedule.

Tottenham will never change unless we get new owners, Levy and Enic have created 'Spursy' and this loser culture, it is embedded into the whole club, it infects any manager that comes. Enough is enough. New owners and a new culture and identity is needed, wake up people. It doesn't matter who is in charge, it will always be the same under Enic.
@GogoVictoria10 күн бұрын
I agree with a number of commentators about different reasons. However, I do think a group of NT players almost certainly get their heads turned by their International call ups. Also, I do think the intense schedule of a match every three days just culminates in a slump each period. However, the only person who can change it is Ange. He needs to rotate better to inject some motivation into the team. Not using the likes of Madders, Spence, and trying Gray in the middle who is probably hungry to prove his worth seems like a mistake.
