Guilty! When I first became a Christian I was so hungry for the WORD I couldn’t get enough of it. I bought Bibles and books galore. That was in 1999. Now I have Bibles and Christian books that just sit on the bookcase. I have not read them. I had bought more Bibles and books and they are scattered here and there. I bought these in the hopes of reigniting my desire to read the Bible. Not realizing that this had become a distraction from reading the Bible. I believed because it was a Bible or a Christian book it must be alright to own plenty of them. The LORD spoke to my heart: Anything that takes you away from ME, is not from ME. I quit watching KZbin channel Bible reviews. I sold or gave away Bibles and books that I had not read. I feel better and I’m able to focus. I found a Bible size that works best for me and a Bible translation. Thank you so much for addressing this matter. I was wondering if I was the only one that had a problem. ❤️

All the beautiful Bibles out there are a distraction. My first Bible, which was my only bible at time, is so worn that i need to keep in in a plastic bag to keep it from falling apart. Then, I got into buying different bibles first because I needed a replacement for that one, then using the excuse that I wanted different translations, but all those bibles are barely opened. One day, I looked at them and was convicted. I felt God saying just focus on reading the word daily and don't focus on accumulating. I am now reading from one bible only and not buying any more.

I pray that someone I know comes across this video or one similar to it. She hasn't spoken to me in a couple months because our last conversations was about this exactly. She had shared she had just bought a new bible. She already has a collection of them. This "new" one was "different" because not only was it a journaling bible but also color the art within the pages. She got upset that I bluntly said it was just a coloring book built into that bible. She got defensive. 🤷‍♀️

So happy you have voiced this video. Having too many bibles and studies is a big distraction and I've seen many KZbin influencers with so many different bibles its not necessary. I admit when I watch those videos it is very tempting so I need to go back and unsubscribe or not look at it. ❤ I really hope this videos helps others because this is what has been convicting me for awhile now and I need to repent and turn away from the things of the flesh

You are truly a blessing!!!! I am actually today wrestling with the idea of sending one back. After this video I will be doing just that! When I first started reading I had 1 then I bought another and another. I ended up with a total of 9 at one point. It became extremely overwhelming for me. I felt obligated to open each one daily. I wasn’t enjoying the Lords word. I wasn’t sure what was going on. I currently have 5 they are all study related and very helpful to me. I also ended up buying The Bible Knowledge Commentary & Holman Illustrated Dictionary. I am very happy with my selection of Bible’s. Thank you for such a great video! I wonder if you have any advice on the role social media plays? Because people on social media do a lot of Bible reviews and that "influences" me to buy more Bibles. I wrestle a lot with should I just quit social media? There is so much good but also bad :-( Thank you for this well thought out video with lots of scriptures to meditate on! I just love the intent of having one Bible and getting to know it and where things are and the layout and being able to preach the gospel fast from it because you've spent time in ONE BIBLE (!!!!!) thank you thank you

But like with any addiction : its wise to remove the temptation from your sight. Maybe just turning OFF the follow of some content might help and keeping ON the content that brings you joy and help will help. But be led by your true Master ❤️😁🙏

I relate to the social media comment. I have been feeling the same way. I went through my FB likes and removed over 400 groups and pages I “liked”. It was a game changer for me. I’ve been praying about removing social media all together as well.

I am a Bible buying woman. I've finally come to the conclusion that I don't need any more. I don't have the compulsion to buy anymore. I have Bibles just sitting on my shelf and have been convicted to give them away to someone who will read and use them. I will say it is hard to give them away. God is still working on me.

Honestly I'm not sure how your videos came up in my KZbin suggestions. (I saw part 1 of this first) But I'm so thankful to Lord that it did! This second video spoke right to my heart and brought so much conviction. I don't physically purchase a lot of bibles. But and constantly searching for the next thing or the "best" bible. I watched your other video yesterday and last night I was looking through all my bibles….so many! I really needed to see your video. This follow up was very good as well. I think for me, it started when I saw a KZbin video saying how KJV is only Bible should read but I just couldn’t get into it. I’ve been searching for years to find the “perfect” translation and Bible. I like my simple niv. I will stick with that the rest of this year and see how it goes 😊 Thank you sister

Im currently recently been born again, which is a real shock to me and its a lot to go through. I bought several translations, and some study versions, and devotionals. I am set for yearrrrs. That said I am glad i did it because it is nice to see the differences in the everyday bibles but also really good and safe to have study versions along the way. I don’t always think it’s bad to buy bibles aslong as it’s for a God centered reason. But buying just for buying is not the same. But again i’m a newbie and for me reading and learning about the word in every single way is exciting! It might be easy to go overbored… but it is so much out there, and to be honest how would one ever find «your own» bible without trying and also sometimes do wrong purshases.

This is the first time I have been on your channel. Thank you so much for opening up on this topic. As someone who has many Bibles, I have stopped buying them after seven years of continual purchases based on how Bibles look, their commentaries, and even the type of covers that they have. Recently travelling overseas, I could only really take one or two smaller Bibles with me. And I have to say that after six weeks, in one Bible, it opened me up to a different experience. I started knowing where to find certain passages in that Bible and getting past the way it looked to what the Word said. This is not to say that my other reading was in vain, because I learnt quite a lot from my readings. But I also wasted time and money buying Bibles for the sake of buying them, for the lust of the eyes, rather than spending that time reading it. It pains me to say this, but I think that I was find Bibles as a way unconsciously to confirm that I am a Christian. To confirm my relationship with God. This is all on a subconscious level I feel combined with good marketing and consumerism. We are feeding the lust of the eyes and the lust of the flesh by being part of the world and having more than we need. A recent break into our property revealed that whatever I was wearing at the time, whatever I had with me at the time, was the most valuable and all that I needed. Thank you so much again for making such a video. Being a Christian isn’t about how many Bibles we have. Being a Christian is reading the word of God and obeying it❤

Also, you captured the shame element very well - there were times that I had to forgo most of my bible reading session because I couldn’t decide which bible colour cover I would choose and will it go with my current aesthetic vibe! I am so ashamed of this but it’s true. I then realised - with the trip that I took where I could only take 2 small bibles ( can you imagine how long it took me to choose??) - that I had a problem. A problem fed by the temptations of the bible groups I joined on social media (ironically to connect with other Bible loving women) and also the publishers. I just have to have this limited edition or that one, just in case I can’t buy it and want to read it later). ugh… exhausted just thinking about it. So I have resolved with Gods help and watching videos like yours to stop and be so grateful for having Gods Word. I will aim to use every single bible I have , sell or giveaway, but ultimately stay in one for the long haul.

@@openlybookishyes yes! I have avoided the groups lately and feel soooo much better! I thought I’d go there and we’d be sharing our love for our bibles. I saw people frothing over the latest premium bible release and thought, nope that won’t be me. Pride came before the fall. Because I then fell for the frenzied buys thinking it’s the Woes of God, this doesn’t count. I will collect them for the future. And it was draining our bank account as well as my enjoyment in reading the word! Which one to read? Allan, Schuyler or a non premium?? It was taking time away from reading and that is just what the enemy wants! Thank you to Olga and another YTer (All Glory to God channel) for posting the real purpose of a bible - to read and no,d the truths in our hearts (versus our bookshelves).

You are very astute. Here in the UK, books and bibles abound. I rather fell out with my local Christian bookshop because they sold books promoting opposing theological views as far back as the 1990s. I went through the "hungry stage" buying all sort of books and thirty years ago thought I was "God's woman of power for the hour" possessing a huge library and video library of all sorts of teachings. It was a blessing that my husband was a staying influence on me and I came to my senses. We are not more spiritual because we own lots of Bibles and Christian books. My husband passed away three months ago and I really miss his quiet wisdom. I have one old leather Bible that I use. It is dog eared and familiar. Christian literature can be big business. Observing things from across the pond, I am aware that many "Christian" publications are really just self help manuals on how to have a more comfortable life in the here and now. We just need the pure and unadulterated Word!

My husband was very patient with me too❤️he wasn’t against it , just rently reminding me : How many bibles can you read at once? 😁🙏 but the Lord is so good He led me to realize that all is needed is Him and His Word in whatever form or cover as long as I spend time with Him ! Thank you for talking about this. This is a topic not mentioned often, but is rampant within Christianity. Most believers say there is nothing wrong with having this addiction. They feel it's ok because it's the Bible and what else is the most important book to own? I have this addiction and I have cut way back, but it's an itch that when it hits is maddening. I think for me part of the challenge is the whole translation quandary. Once you settle on one then it does ease up. Bible review vlogs don't help. I've unsubscribed because I don't need any encouragement. No matter then stating you don't have to buy said Bible being reviewed which is baloney since that is the whole point of reviewing. Premium Bibles is a whole other topic.

Agree…premium bibles are a whole other topic. Esp the companies constantly feeding us with new and limited covers. I have collected over 100 premiums over the last 7 years 😭😫. This was a fact that I was once pleased about as I hungered for the Word and got caught up in the groups and review vlogs. I don’t frequent those groups anymore or channels. I don’t need another bible, premium or otherwise. I need Gods word continually inside me, to meditate day and.night. I need to speak Gods word continually.
