Needing the HR strap is not a flaws, its a feature as the optical wrist base HR is inaccurate so in order to get an accurate LTHR score you'll need accurate data. Kudos to Garmin for swallowing their pride and going for better results over marketing!

A good threshold session is parkrun at threshold pace. This might be a bit much for runners with a threshold considerably slower that 4:00/km in which case they can do the first 1km at easy pace and then the last 4km at threshold pace. It’s a good way to hit a threshold session every week 😀
@DaveTheRunner Жыл бұрын
Hell yeah! I love that 🙌🏻 and it supports your local park run

Just a note-- pretty sure the target HRs you mention are specific to whatever MaxHR you set (or detected) on the watch. They wouldn't make sense for a person with, for example, a 160 or 210 MaxHR since LT is typically at about 90% of MaxHR for trained athletes.
@DaveTheRunner Жыл бұрын
That makes sense ! 👍🏼
@richardcharleston25476 ай бұрын
Yea but you could just divide your LT by 0.9 and set that as your max HR

My HRM reads 4 to 5 beats lower then my 945. Thats why you need a strap. As watches accuracy vary from person to person and have to much variables by wearing incorrectly for optimal reading.

What happens if you do this on a trail? I.e. with hills. Does it screw up the data?

I would say that the test will be better on a flat route to keep the variables at a minimum 🙌🏻 I think it would affect the data, that’s a good question 👍🏼

@@DaveTheRunner So I actually tried it, but could NOT keep the HR at the max zone for 3 mins. Partly I was totally gassed, but partly I had muscular fatigue from running uphill. This was towards the HR being like 170 I believe. I'm not in SUPER great condition, but i'm active. All i'm trying to do is update my garmin baseline so I have a better sense of where my zone 2 is. I am more interested in being a hybrid athlete than an endurance athlete, and I live in Boulder CO, so there's tons of outdoor options. I'm also not really much of a jogger. It's too bad I can't test this on a fixed spinbike.

@@DaveTheRunner I'll try it again next week. I'm also just gonna experiment with it. I know it says i needs outdoor GPS, but how would it know i'm inside? I get that it wants to see you move, but what if I just did heavy sleds? hah. I'll double back with a report.

I’ve tried the Clifton multiple times and it just doesn’t work for me. It’s all squish with no response. I feel like I’m running in sand. I love their rocker profile though. Would it be a good idea for me to try the Arahi? I’m a very neutral runner but would like a Clifton that feels a little less spongy.
@DaveTheRunner Жыл бұрын
Hey mate ! I haven’t tried the Clifton or Arahi so I can’t give you a good opinion of on that. Have you tried a Mach 5? For a little less squish and more pop?

Was your lactate threshold test result the same as the prediction? Currently due to injuries I am unable to do the test, but the prediction from my garmin is 180.. Usually I cannot sustain 180+ for a long time so it seems to be a pretty good prediction. It started at 170 and now for a few months it is 180. I have been training a lot more endurance and in Zone 4/5 so it seems to guess right.
