About Me:
I’m Emma McAdam. I’m a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, and I have worked in various settings of change and growth since 2004. My experience includes juvenile corrections, adventure therapy programs, wilderness therapy programs, an eating disorder treatment center, a residential treatment center, and I currently work in an outpatient therapy clinic.
In therapy I use a combination of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Systems Theory, positive psychology, and a bio-psycho-social approach to treating mental illness and other challenges we all face in life. The ideas from my videos are frequently adapted from multiple sources. Many of them come from Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, especially the work of Steven Hayes, Jason Luoma, and Russ Harris. The sections on stress and the mind-body connection derive from the work of Stephen Porges (the Polyvagal theory), Peter Levine (Somatic Experiencing) Francine Shapiro (EMDR), and Bessel Van Der Kolk. I also rely heavily on the work of the Arbinger institute for my overall understanding of our ability to choose our life's direction.
And deeper than all of that, the Gospel of Jesus Christ orients my personal worldview and sense of security, peace, hope, and love www.churchofje...

I wish my son would agree to speak to someone.it's driving me crazy! My whole household is mentally ill and since my daughter moved back home with the grandkids,it's gotten much worse. Now my son, mentally ill since young childhood, is back. I'm the only one who admits a problem and Jim the only one with insurance.you said there is counseling for those who have loved ones in crisis. What should i look for in credentialing and experience to he'll with this type of therapy. Thank you for your reply in advance...GigiQ

My mom doesn't take it serious when I say. She kinda likes to be just thinking that everything is okay. I have a breakdown almost every time when I need to go somewhere. In my high-school there is a very cool psychologist. And this is the only thing I want to go to school for. And she has been in our class and I liked it so much.

Yes we go for therapy not only for ourselves but hoping when we benefit, can help people from our own family and many others who are willing to hear. We should not wait till it is too late. Everyone faces problems and some for a long time like mine over 40 years and have been trying hard to improve my own condition over the years before we came across Emma's and Anna's videos. Don't add onto our miseries by getting angry with us when we are not able to help you deal with your own problems by mocking. ridiculing, and making all kinds of demands. Blaming games add on to our problems. When our problems get worse, like having suicidal thoughts we would excommunicate toxic people from our life including those who blame us in time of their needs as we can't help them as we ourselves have to cope with many issues faced. We can do our part in some small ways but can't take too much pressures. We are grateful to Emma n Anna for their contributions in easing things by sharing generously with people like us.

@@whydrink1609 my reason? I have flashbacks and stuff from being bullied when I was 12 in first year of high school (Scotland) a group of 6th years (18 year olds) threw firecrackers at me every day and chased me. @@Chirpingcherub ok I see, I guess ill tell the full thing then. When I was young I met a friend and had never had one before then 5 years passes, he started treating me like trash but I was too gullible to notice. Then I talked to the school about him and they did nothing, 1 year later he stole my phone which was special to me becuse I got it from my parents and he tried too sell my private information. Anyway I am not saying this to undermine your problems, but I was genuinely confused on the fact you were all there for the same reson and I am sorry if it came off as me being an ass.

@@martinvazquez4771that’s such reductive comment to make, it’s not normal to feel suicidal, be it sometimes or always. it can be a symptom to a greater problem beneath the surface and you should treat it before it becomes a habit of “ rough pachs “ or even worsens and happens more often.

The worst thing is that I have cried at home many many many times, and my mom has seen me crying, I was telling her I needed a therapy but she told pray. Yes,okay, but than everything got bad the next day, ah, she thinks psychologists are crazy people or something, but I don't think she's certain about that. I have told about my mental problems some of my friends but if happens something that makes me anxious (in a weird way, cause for a healthy person it's okay) they won't understand me . They don't have to understand me, I think I wouldn't understand someone like me if I didn't have that kind of problems. But it hurts so bad...

My mom seems to think I should consider a therapist for my horrible anxiety but I think it’s too expensive. She says my parents can figure it out but I know it’s been extra hard for them lately with money. Also I think if I said to my dad I want a therapist he’d think I was being soooo dramatic and would just think it’s stupid. I don’t really give details on my anxiety to him, he never seems to take it too seriously. What should I do? And is online therapy good and what exactly is it?

Guess what they said, "Are you crazy? ", " Seeking therapy or psychological help is similar to destroy your family's reputation. I would recommend seeing a licensed marriage and family therapist, they will be able to help you with your own stress and challenges, in addition to being able to help you learn ways to respond to your family in a way that is helpful. It's pretty fascinating to me that when one person changes their interaction in a family, they invite change from the other and real healthy patterns can develop. I have an online course with over 50 videos on how to help family members with mental illness: it's only 9.99 but at some point I'll be selling it for $200, www.udemy.com/how-to-help-depression-and-anxiety/?couponCode=THERAPYNUT

Almost everybody needs to see a therapist. Because all of us need that friend who Will say to us what we need to hear rather what we want to hear. Also therapist is better than that Honest friend because they can Navigate with you The complex mental issues you Have in your Life rather than just listen and react what you say. Also since therapists are conisdered very smart and held in high regard its easier for us to take their advice seriously rather than that one Honest friend (which is valuable If you Have one) giving us good advice but semi drunk we dont take it seriously. Also most of us end up hating that friend who is too Honest with us 😂. Autocorrect did some weird stuff and cant bother to fix since you get The idea.

I hate therapy because it doesn’t help me. I’ve been in therapy for years and I’ve been judged every time and I’m always angry in therapy. I don’t understand why I’m in therapy when I never did anything wrong to anyone. Maybe I’ve made some mistakes but good people do bad things. I didn’t deserve the treatment I was given and therapy feels like prison. I’m stronger without it.

You say that you can improve the odds of success and yet you don't actually cite any numbers which means that you're not doing any real science. Then you refer to business which is also an area of numbers and you say that it will pay back on this so-called investment. How much money do you get back or are you just using figures of speech designed to promote a persuasive impact upon our vulnerable audience and how does one decide between the two?
