You're right again Dave. This show was awesome. It came around the time that the Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew Mysteries, Spiderman, Wonder Woman, the Incredible Hulk, Space 1999, and Battlestar Galactica were all a staple of tv during the years 1977-1978. It's possible that's why I'd laugh while everybody watched Dallas and Bobby Ewing had a scene.

But there is! In fact, there are three of them here in the U.S. MeTV, AntennaTV and Cozi. And the best part is that if you have an over the air antenna, in many states you can get all three channels for free. Hopefully, we'll see "The Man from Atlantis" on one of those networks in the not too distant future!

"That guy", from DALLAS swims around. I remember his web hands and feet but not much else about the details of the show. This guy always reminded me of Bill Bixby. Not sure if any one else get's that or not. Combine the two and we have the "AQUA-HULK". Now what can that super hero do? Turn green and eat 10 pounds of shrimp in a few seconds. We now have a new super hero. "AQUA-HULK". I don't think that will sell too many comic books, nor make it any where else. Thanks for the flash back Dave. I like how you find these 1970's gems. Good stuff. P.S. Wasn't there some "Man from Atlantis" web hand swim fins you could buy. Maybe I imagined those things.

Yes, they were basically webbed gloves. I got to visit with Patrick when he was filming the Dallas reboot, and asked him about the original prosthetics. He told me that John Campbell made them, this is the same fellow who did the ears for Spock on the original Star Trek series. Great fun getting to visit with Patrick.
@spliceoncharlie5 жыл бұрын
@@BuckHelton Good stuff. Special effects and artist sometimes get overlooked. I remember back in the late 1990's the Sci-Fi channel did a "Special Edition" of the original Star Trek extending it from 60 to a 90 minute show. They had interviews with the original cast and crew and each show was hosted or narrated by William Shatner. He talked about the limited budget and some of the crazy common house hold items used for special effects. I forget the episode but the Enterprise had found a ship with the crew frozen and in some of the scenes they had used a regular shower curtain for ice. For me, the 70's was an amazing time to grow up and the television opened up a magical world. Funny the things you remember and the things you forget. That's what I like about this channel, Dave always has something here to clear out the cob webs in my head.

I was just passionate. Not sure if I saw the four tv movies or not but I probably did. I missed a lot of the TV show because of church obligations on the weeknight it aired. This probably contributed to my dim view of organized religion to this day (lol). I have tried watching the show again as an adult and found it a bit slow. I do remember this, absolutely. I really liked the odd submarine they used (the string of spheres design), and I tried my best to swim like mark in my cousin's pool, succeeding only in ripping my scuba mask off my face with my wild flopping about. During a trip to florida at about that time I found one of the novelizations in a drugstore spinner rack (the one about the alien light-spores that rode a returning space probe back to earth), and I think I spent more time reading it on that trip than I did at the actual beach. Great news about the book by Mr. Duffy; I'll definitely give that a read.
@vincentrobinette15075 жыл бұрын
That "quad sphere" submarine, (The Cetacean) is actually a good design. A sphere has the lowest surface area, for the greatest volume, allowing it to operate at depths that would crush any cylindrical hulled submarine. At the bottom of the Marianas trench, the pressure exceeds 16,500 PSI. Spheres are the only shape with any usable interior space, to withstand such pressure.

I liked the show well enough back then, I would have faithfully watched at least another couple of seasons. I tried to watch Dallas, but being a young experimenter, and liked science, Dallas just couldn't hold my interest. They turned my pure hearted rescue hero of the water, into a hard drinking son of a back stabbing oil tycoon.(though he was still the "good guy") If I would have seen fractional distillation of petroleum into fuels and lubricants, or if he lapped the face seals on a centrifugal pump that he just replaced the impeller, it might have kept my interest.

I liked Patrick Duffy, so I watched Dallas for a while, but since I was(and am)more interested in science, Dallas just couldn't hold my interest. I was a young experimenter, and didn't really grasp the drama of life. Without seeing fractional distillation of oil into fuel, and lubricants, or even a tanker truck, there was nothing in Dallas, to keep my interest. Yes, I'll admit, I tried swimming the "dolphin kick" like Mark Harris, and I just couldn't pull it off. I met a friend at a municipal swimming pool, who could do it very well, and he was fast! I was totally amazed. He tried to teach me, but I just floundered, because I just couldn't create that sinusoidal serpentine move, that would define a direction of travel.

Dave Sundstrom the show was so much more fascinating compare to shows or movies today because it didn’t use a lot of special effects, and looks like it could happen in real life. Kind like horror movies such as Omen or Sixth Sense or Blair Witch Project that didn’t have a lot of special effects. CGI is way over used these days that really makes movies so artificial and unrealistic. Realistic sci is the best.

I remember watching this when it aired and I liked it! It also reminded me of an old cartoon called Marine Boy. Although I envied the abilities of Patrick Duffy's character in this show, I was far more envious of his character on the show Dallas, for being married to the very sexy... Victoria Principle!!!😁

Yep. Regardless of the show, Patrick Duffy really seemed to have it made!

Wow, you're right, Patrick Duffy following through with the book shows he really cared about that character/show. Kind of reminds me of Richard Hatch trying to get together a reboot of Battlestar Galactica to tie up lose ends. It di of course finally happen, just not by him, although he was a character in the reboot which was nice.

Yah, I thought about Richard Hatch as well.

Another good show review from my childhood ,and you're right even lost ateam with me a little later because I felt the character was limited. Perhaps too limited to keep people's interest. But still I really love to show.
