Hey guys! I am back with the next installment of my diet review series. This week I am covering the incredibly popular ketogenic diet. Within the last year or two, the keto diet has soared in popularity and I can understand why. It is a simple diet where counting calories isn't important (who wants to count calories) and you get to eat a bunch of really delicious foods.
If you are curious, the name of the diet comes from the ketone bodies produced within your body as a result of switching your body to fuel itself through fats instead of carbs. This is also referred to as a state of ketosis.
Video Breakdown:
Opener- 0:23
Nutrition Basics- 0:28
How it Works- 1:05
Keto Claims- 2:12
Potential Harms- 5:07
Final Thoughts- 5:27
Bloopers- 6:18
I know many of you want to lose weight and there are tons of videos on weight loss out there. But I want to give you an honest doctor's take on the keto diet, which is essentially a high fat low carb diet. Its claim to fame is that helps to burn body fat for energy, therefore helping you lose weight quickly. But is fast weight loss even healthy? + Is this the best weight loss diet?
Anyway, I could go into more detail covering the smallest intricacies of the diet but I did not want to weigh down the video, both literally and figuratively. Please let me know if this is too little, too much, or just the right amount of information about intermittent fasting.
Also, I want you to remember that diets are not all about weight loss but more importantly about eating healthy. So let's get started with the Keto diet explained / Ketogenic diet explained diet review!
I sincerely hope you enjoy, and definitely let me know if you want more videos like this by giving it a like and a share.

My wife and I had tried to conceive for 7 years with no success. After numerous unsuccessful fertility treatments, we finally found a doctor who treats patients with food. It actually happens to be ketogenic diet. Thank God for internet (access to information) that lead us to this doctor. The reason we could not conceive was because our bodies were inflamed due to excessive consumption of carbohydrates. All we had to do 3 months of ketogenic diet. And I emphasize just as the doctor emphasized, it has to be at least 3 months. Thank God and of course the doctor, the miracle has happened! Now we have a beautiful little girl, and another one on the way! Great video content! Thanks! Wishing you all good health!

I’ve been on Keto, or trying to for 5 months. Retired 67 yrs old male, went from 210 to 165 lbs. I’ve got more energy than ever, in fact, I walk between 10,000 and 18,000 steps almost every day (5 to 9 miles). Some days I’m sure I let a few too carbs in, but I’ve been real good about throwing out processed foods, anything with sugar, starch, and high fructose corn syrup. I miss pasta, rice, potatoes, decadent desserts, but since I’m at the weight I want to be at, I’ll allow myself a departure. I also gave up a pretty heavy beer habit. I kind of obsessed over pre diabetes so I tested for glucose and ketones every day with an affordable meter. I don’t know what my numbers were before the diet, but recent A1C is 4.8. The thing I’d like to emphasize is because your eating more saturated fats, you don’t get hungry. It takes a a week or 2, but eventually when your are fat adapted, 1 meal a day, or eating inside a window of say 18 hours fast, 6 hours eating, is quite easy. Eventually I found I could go 72 hours without eating anything, just coffee, tea or water. Never got hungry. I only stopped because I felt I should eat. Bowel habits improved, chronic cracked heels disappeared, sleep much better, and my mind is sharper. I’m not going to go back ever to the Standard American Diet. That’s what causes BMI issues and pre diabetes, I’m convinced.

Try shirataki noodles as a pasta substitute. They come packaged in water and have almost no carbs. They can be found in Asian grocery stores and some other stores as well. They stink of the sea when you open them, but rinsing removes much of the smell and cooking in a sauce removes the smell completely. I keep several packages on hand in my fridge.

Same here, been doing it for a couple years now. Never going back to the S.A.D diet again. It's disgusting how much dextrose, maltodextrin, and fructose is in literally everything. Looking at it now, all I'm doing is stripping out the processed garbage that fills the majority of grocery stores.

I’ve been keto now for over four years and I find it very easy to maintain and the food is delicious. My cholesterol numbers are perfect but even more importantly, no more dangerously high triglycerides. The only fault I’ve found so far with keto is the sad fact that I didn’t find out about it years sooner than I did. Keto is so easy for me to stick with and I will not allow anything or any so called special occasion to derail me. My health is way too important to me.

I’m waiting as well. I am also willing ... on my limited knowledge to debate him on the negatives. (1) a ketogenic diet can be broken ... you just have to get back on the diet (2) people all over the world are staying on a keto diet ... it can be done (3) His claim it lacks nutrition, pray tell ... what nutrient is lacking???? I claim it’s more complete than a vegan diet! (4) harms the kidneys? I thought that was high protein ... which isn’t ketogenic? Evidence please? ... is that enough, good job on your pillars of longetivity, the research on blue zones and telomeres supports you but I think you have some work to do in the ketogenic arena ... and nice KZbin channel, good job on the video creation

I'm on keto + IF OMAD. Lost 67lbs in just under 6 months, AND put on 10-12 lbs in muscle. And you can drink on keto, Vodka for example has no insulin or glucose response. Your body will burn off the calories 1st but it does not knock you out of ketosis. Just watch the extra calories.

DH SPEK'S - I've been on Keto for 1 full year now. I've lost 104 lbs. "From 286 down to 181.8 currently". I'm not bothered if my meals are boring, so I eat the same exact thing every day. Breakfast- 3 egg omelette, 1/4 cup cheese, water, bacon or sausage, water. Lunch- 10-12oz of ground beef, taco seasoning, 1 full cup lettuce, 1/4 cup cheese, a TON of sour cream, lots of hot sauce. Dinner- Same exact thing as lunch only with chicken and only 8-10oz. I also take a multi vitamin, fish oil, and a 0 carb pre workout for gym days.

I'm just starting this diet. How have you been feeling without fruits and vegetables. Do you feel healthy without them and get them through your multi vitamin? If so, maybe I'll try it your way. Do you use coconut oil and butter when you cook? Would love to hear back when you have time. Please be careful with so much meat. It's acidic, making it a perfect environment for cancer to grow. But then they say cancer needs to be fed sugar to survive. But if you add turmeric to your meats, they say it makes it safer. That's what I did when I had cancer. Keep safe. Looks like you're doing great! And it sounds like you're a Mexican food lover like I am with making taco salads. Yum!

Yeah, but the foods you're eating don't make you wanna die. Thats why it works for me. If you restrict calories, but hate what you're eating you will eventually relapse. Keto is delicious and sustainable for me, not for everyone. And it makes you feel full much quiker. I love it!
@LuciusC
@LuciusC 6 жыл бұрын
"keto is caloric restriction" Wrong. You eat until you're not hungry. Keto is keto, whether you eat 200 calories or 4000. I lost 12 pounds in a month so far, and haven't "got off my ass" at all. If you have to exercise, either you're too stressed or you're doing the diet wrong.

There's definitely soda, ice-cream, cookies, pizza, almost everything can be made with very low carb ingredients. There's entire brands building profits around how this works- they are however low net carb, so we in keto communities treat them as something to only eat on rare occasions.

True. If you're relying on processed ingredients, you're doing keto wrong. I think for it to be healthy almost 100% of the carb budget needs to come from low-carb veggies.

I’ve been a macro counter for years. Never had an issue with carbs aside from cutting season. I hang out around 245lbs now (power lifted at 280 and bodybuilding around 260) these aren’t good weights even at 6’4. No more joint pain, no more wanting to binge eat etc. plus! Now I only eat Whole Foods. Best part about it, in my opinion.

I really think that Keto Diet depends a lot of the lifestyle of each person and how carb sensitive they are. I went keto for about half a year and I felt terrible, I started to lost hair, I lost my period and had low energy everyday even though I was doing clean and healthy keto. So I discovered that my body feels better in a moderate to high carb diet with appropriate calorie intake for my body. Now I can lose weight eating whatever I want in moderation and I have lots of energy all the time also my hair stopped falling and my hormones are getting back to healthy levels.

I've been eating keto for the last year and a half. Not only am I now at a much healthier weight, but it has fixed several serious health issues I had. I am healthier now than I have been in two decades. (I am sixty years old.) I also have no problems sticking to the diet. I DO allow myself to cheat, meaning I could have that milkshake or Thanks Giving dinner or whatever. The proviso however is that if I do cheat, the next day is a total fast, no food at all. That puts me right back into ketosis, lickety-split. I am not willing to trade my health just to go back to eating heavy carbs.

Butter is 20% milk. Milk causes big insulin spikes because of it's inherent proteins and carbs. Lol there are so many nurses and doctors on here who advocate for the keto diet. Daphne Reloaded is a great channel on here, she’s a nurse and ex-vegan of 15 or so years, who has gone full-carnivore to reverse the years of damage the vegan diet caused. She goes into great detail about the deception of the modern day vegan health nuts, while thoroughly explaining how our bodies THRIVE on a diet high in animal fat and protein. These are the medical professionals who actually took the time to research the science behind our current obesity epidemic, our current sugar addiction (and inundation: sugar is in everything now), and have decided to sift through all the bullshit taught to them and the public by our government (the food pyramid, for example, recommends 6-11 SERVINGS of grains/carbs a day... to our body that’s 6-11 servings of SUGAR). Another example would be the stigma behind saturated fat and cholesterol. Our body NEEDS fat and cholesterol to regenerate the cells in our vital fatty organs. Please research LDL cholesterol, and how it has zero to do with indicating inflammation or an unhealthy heart. The real indicator of heart health is our ratio of true cholesterol to high-density lipoprotein (HDL, what many consider the “good cholesterol”, though it’s not even cholesterol lol) There’s a great video on here explaining the double standard between alcohol and sugar. You don’t think twice about handing your kid a jolly rancher or nerd rope, but we’d never consider once to crack open a beer for our kids. Ironically enough, our liver goes through the same taxing chemical process whenever we consume carbohydrates, especially in high amounts. Anyways that concludes another rant on this video. I cannot stand the amount of propaganda being spread which defends a diet which would never ever occur in nature.

@@modona100 I need to break this down for you. Okay. A ketogenic diet will *not* cure diabetes. It will cause it when you consume carbohydrates. The reason we get diabetes is when we consume saturated fat, it goes to the muscle and causes insulin resistance. To put it simply: Imagine I have a watering can. I then cover the water holes with tape. I then run water through it. Of course it doesn't work, because it's blocked by the tape. Now imagine the tape is saturated fat (Very high in the ketogenic diet) and the water is glucose (Very low on a ketogenic diet.) Also cholesterol plays a role

MG44bee you seem to have very little knowledge on ‘diabetes’. At least have the sense to use type 1 or type 2. Type 1 is autoimmune and incurable. Type 2 isn’t always diet based, it can be genetic/hereditary, or it can be triggered by pancreatic diseases.

Great video, and I love your channel! As someone who's bipolar II, I'll be curious to see what further research reveals for keto and bipolar disorder, considering the relationship between bipolar and epilepsy. Anticonvulsants for epilepsy are often used as mood stabilizers for folks with BD, both illnesses are connected to the ANK3 gene, both are characterized by cycling, both are often comorbid with chronic migraine (which is also sometimes treated with meds that work for epilepsy and bipolar). Anyway, you probably know a lot of that already, but I wouldn't be surprised if we find that a diet developed to treat epilepsy is helpful for BD as well!

When I compare my health and how I felt before keto, I would say the keto diet is actually quite easily sustainable. Also, one thing Doctor Mike didn't not mention is how intermittent fasting can be incorporated into the keto diet and make it even easier to maintain. But he is right, it's not for everyone.

I started the keto diet a few years ago. I'm an RN and I've been type 2 diabetic on insulin for years. I lost 45 lbs the first year and lowered my cholesterol readings, improved my liver enzymes, I was able to reduce the insulin I took to an occasional dose rather than Lantus 80 units plus Humalog 20 units per meal. BUT you are right it is very hard to sustain. I found out something else. Since I had given up grains I realized that I was gluten intolerant. No more diarrhea as long as I stay off grains. Withdrawing from sugars was great too. I can go through the store and avoid all the snacks and not feel deprived. In addition my husband and I found permaculture gardening. He's retired so we bought some chickens and grow our own food. We also have some beehives as a hobby but I don't eat the honey. We give it away or sell it. My hubby lost 130 lbs on the paleo diet and reversed his kidney disease. His doctor said he is his example patient for others that need to lose weight to prevent a life of dialysis.

I will say say that it did slowdown for a while after that, but losing that much weight so quickly is very encouraging. I will also add, now I’m almost 18 years old and my whole family is starting the diet this time, and it is way easier to stick to this diet when you are not doing it alone. I really appreciate that you are focused on evidence and facts rather than than assumptions. As someone who followed the Keto Diet for a while and did a lot of research on it when my doctor recommended it for migraines and epilepsy, there are a lot of people who are misguided and get their information for celebrity news sites. Keto is not for everyone, because we all have different bodies and experiences. Some people love carbs and do enough exercise to not need to do specifically low carb, while some people feel that keto keeps them from overeating. It all depends on your lifestyle and what the doctor says. I love carbs, but Keto allowed me to stay in control and not overeat (while also doing IF and occasionally OMAD).

He had wrong on basicly all points, not knowing the very sciencebased literature he supposedly likes so much. Keto flu is a electrolyte deficiency, about ldl as only a typical marker for sad as a decently good marker, until you go ketosis and hightened ldl is caused by the liver upregulating fatenergy/triglycerides transport for energy. And cancercells with damaged energy conversion from fat is often affected, which is why using ketosis has been shown to be helpful; Although you need to be mindful of TMAO ( inhibit activity with aspirin or olive oil ) and neu5gc ( avoid meats i you can, although the science is not seemingly very convincing yet. Better safe than sorry..) There is good science on keto, But some love to say they are evidence based, while not knowing anything about the standard foodpyramids limitations, diffrences in wheat, the Gmo of tomatos to have more lectins to fight of pesticides only to eat those lectins etc. people are morons.

I found that due to my decreased (nearly diminished) intake of sugar and refined carbs, there was a great decrease in my appetite/cravings, something that I had a huge problem with and going low carb aided in fixing my relationship with food as I only ate when hungry and because I had no cravings, I would make choices that were better for my body rather than my taste buds which also led to massive improvements in my mental health. It’s not very sustainable due to how restrictive it can be so I don’t recommend it for everyone but if you have enough willpower to make it past the first week, I think it’s one if the easier and most effective diets out there and would be an optimal choice for many many many people.

I’m super late to the party but I’ve been keto for 5.5 years. Nutritional keto is very different in regards to therapeutic keto, aka the percentages (75/20/5) which are what is used for treatment of epilepsy. We go based on grams. 20 net carbs (total carbs - fiber - certain sugar alcohols = net carbs) guarantees ketosis for 99% of people. We also prioritize protein over all else to maintain muscle mass during weight loss and muscle building. In a calorie deficit, the fat macro is simply what fill the rest of your calories. Protein is a goal, carbs are a limit, and fat is a lever. Keto flu is simply electrolyte deficiency. It’s recommended to use LiteSalt which is part potassium and part sodium. Also, supplementing magnesium is recommended as well. I know you said that you shy away from anecdotal evidence, but as someone with chronic illnesses (Fibro, IBS, migraines), I can say keto saved my life. My IBS is practically gone. My fibro pain has improved significantly. I’m now able to exercise and weight-lift 4x a week. I think it’s important to also mention that I was never over weight. I initially started keto in 2015 to lose weight before my wedding. I got down to 110 at 5’4. I stayed on keto because of the overwhelming positive benefits I got. Keto saved my life, and I mean that literally as my fibro pain had been at the point where it was so unbearable, I contemplated suicide. Please check out the r/keto subreddit sometime.

From what I've heard on the podcasts I follow your risk of heart disease eating meat/fat is only an issue if you consume sugar and large amounts of carbs with it. Also, the study linking meat consumption to heart disease didn't specify where the meat was coming from so it could have been from people eating burgers and fries everyday therefore they checked off that they eat meat. They also never inquired as to what they were eating for the rest of their diet, it could have been milkshakes and cookies. That being said I'm not an expert and I didn't conduct any studies of my own.

I'm not keto but I've found that cutting just the high glycemic carbs makes a huge difference. Slowly raising your blood sugar levels with a small spike of insulin leads to a person feeling full for longer, keeps blood sugar levels stable and gives a person energy for a longer period of time. Staying away from the processed foods is big too. Especially with how bad gmo is for a person. In fact, approximately 91% of America wants gmo on the label of products, but the junk food companies have spent around 46 million dollars to avoid having to put gmo on the label. The fda a couple years back even banned a chemical found in popcorn bags and pizza boxes which has been linked to cancer........ There's a reason why diseases like celiac disease are just now becoming a mainstream issue. If we don't stop eating processed foods, it's only bound to get even worse.

The issue with any extreme diet is it is super easy to bounce back. Many of my friends who are also weight lifters cycle on and off of it the way it should be done and some end up bouncing back to old habits. If it wasn't for their high activity levels they would more than likely regain all the weight they lost and more. The key to health is balance no need for extremes, being healthy isn't a trend it's a lifestyle.

yes yes yes! so many quit during the flu due to lack of preparation. if everyone invested a month of their time to just learn about keto and the lifestyle changes you'll make, before diving in.. and even reducing carbs slowly before they start.. can be huge. People are adrenaline junkies, and want fast results, will make fast changes and blame the diet. Its the most natural "diet" in the world, humans evolved, like literally from vegetarians in the homo__(somethingrather) to homo erectus I think.. when they went carnivore and started cooking with fire. The density of our food was much better than and now, we eat empty calories constantly. Keto has changed my life, people see it, and they ask for help.. and i dang well give it to them too!! For me, the keto flu lasted an entire month. I had one day of 26 grams net carbs and i broke ketosis.. the only time. I was very sensitive. I'm hoping it helps with my migraines over time, and already has helped with my joint condition. Keep it up!!

I have struggled with weight my entire life and feel as though I’ve tried every “diet” imaginable. One month ago I began the Keto diet and it was the best decision I’ve ever made. In the first month I’ve lost 20 pounds. As great as that is it’s not even the best part. After cutting out the carbs and sugar I’ve felt the best that I’ve ever felt in my entire life. Before I was constantly tired and sluggish. Now, I have tons of energy and just feel great! I never suffered any symptoms of the Keto flu because I’ve taken a potassium and magnesium supplement from day one and I feel as though they’ve helped. This might not be the right diet for everyone but it’s definitely been the right choice for me. I only wish I would have started it sooner!

Raphael Cutia Glycemix index is relatively moot when you combine carbohydrates with protein or fat. The GI is assuming you're eating the food listed in isolation, e.g. brown rice is medium glycemic, but eat it with chicken, veggies, and peanut sauce and that number will obscured (usually lower, particularly with high fiber/higher fat foods).

L F It's no coincidence that fat people are usually found eating a lot of high glycemic foods. High glycemic foods spikes your blood sugar levels, when your blood sugar levels crash in 2-4 hours after eating, your body will make you crave more carbs to get energy again. Rice also isn't that good. Both white rice and brown rice contain inorganic arsenic(inorganic arsenic is worse than organic arsenic), and brown rice contains more inorganic arsenic then white rice. You can get approximately 80% of the inorganic arsenic out of rice with the right steps, but it can still be very harmful to your body in the long run. Wheat products also are causing issues noted by the spread of celiac disease. Low glycemic fruits and vegetables are the way to go unless you're going to carb up with some watermelon or something an hour pre-workout.

I watched this video with my wife who is one year from getting her degree in Dietetics. She felt that, Doctor Mike, you gave a very balanced review, but she thought that you did not sufficiently discuss how Diet Culture, and Keto especially, often lead to an unhealthy relationship with food. It would be cool if you did a video on how Diet Culture impacts our relationship with food.
@mccdrew7012
@mccdrew7012 3 жыл бұрын
If someone is overweight, they already have a terrible relationship with food. Going on a restrictive diet for health reasons would teach you that food is fuel and not meant for enjoyment every meal. One thing he is incorrect about in this video is saying people have the inability to have carbs. While most of the time this is true, having high carb days are necessary especially if you are on keto for weight loss. You will leave ketosis for 1-2 days, but the next day when you go back to fats, you will enter right back into ketosis. This is what fat adaption is.

For what it’s worth, I have for the last two years slowly adapted myself to a low carb diet. The last five months I have extended it with intermittent fasting. I have lost 50 kg (110 pounds?), from a substantial 150 kg to 100 kg. Blood pressure is down from 150 to 120 and blood sugar is now around 90 from 125. Yes, it requires will but every two or three months I have what they call a “cheat day”. Glorious as they may be, I’m actually more content when I go back on the diet. And yes, this isn’t science, just anecdotal.

Dietitians have a lot of background knowledge on different diets, in fact this is our field. I follow a Mediterranean diet, although I don't like calling it a diet as it is the main lifestyle in Mediterranean countries (I live in Italy). I also started to do intermittent fasting without realizing it, as my University timetable (+ part time job) is pretty messed up, so I can eat only in a certain time frame. It does help because, if I have lunch at 2 pm and then have dinner at 6:30 pm, it means that I am still full from the previous meal, so I eat only the right amount of food. I don't find it difficult to restrain myself from eating more than I should. The only problem is that I wake up extremely hungry lol.

The only thing correct in this statement is that the Mediterranean diet was promoted due to it having lower "fattening" foods, however it was because a bunch of doctors went to the Mediterranean on vacation when it was promoted and came back happy from greece. LDL and saturated fats are not to blame, however I will not argue with a vegetarian/vegan. There are studies to show the higher the cholesterol, the longer you will live, and specifically also showing the lower the cholesterol, the more diseased you are. I've seen too many diabetic vegetarians that are malnourished to change my mind. The entire history of old studies supporting vegetarianism are epidemiological highly skewing data, and also using "facts" like cholesterol is bad and low fat is good, and eating fat makes you fat. Even non-epidemiological studies, like the one by Ancel Keys, is total bunk, and literally cherry picked the data to show that supported his hypothesis, which he needed to get a grant, and then suppressed other researchers when omitting pertinent data. Someone needs to go through all the data and support or debunk it all. But please, don't promote things that aren't true when they just are not. PS: you eat carcinogens when cooking vegetables too, are you on the raw diet? cheers.

@@dana102083 I don't know what studies you're reading but a statement saying that high cholesterol means you're healthy is absolute insanity. Overall cholesterol is supposed to be less than 200, LDL less than 100, triglycerides less than 150, and HDL(aka healthy fats) are supposed to stay over 60. This is something we know to be true and the more foods you eat that are high in unhealthy fats such as certain animal meats, then you are going to be more unhealthy then those who aren't. These severely clog arteries and cause so many heart problems as well as issues for the rest of the body. So while you may not agree with someone who is vegan it is reality that most doctors and nutritionists are promoting a more plant based diet with less meats because is simply far healthier.

@Daniel Sadjadi It's only expensive if you live in US or anywhere outside the Mediterranean area. I live in Italy, and it's easy for me to follow the Mediterranean diet as most of the products can be easily found in our territory. I don't like calling it a diet as it is actually a lifestyle, that's just what we eat and that's the foundation of our food traditions: carbs, legumes, veggies, meat, dairies, oils, nuts, fruits. Everything is in there. It's considered an effective diet because you don't exclude food groups, you just have to control your portions and exercise.

I was recommended to do a ketogenic diet when I was still in paediatrics with neuro-disabilities. I have JME (juvenile myoclonic epilepsy). The diet reduces brain electrical activity by up to 60% (which is the aim when treating epilepsy). But they warned me that it is a very, very strict diet. I would be referred to a nutrition, however it will not be easy to follow. Of course, being 15 at the time, the thought of losing weight super fast was super exciting for me. I quickly said that I wanted to do it. But when the doctor realised that I was more happy about the weight loss, she quickly turned me down. At first I was kinda disappointed, but I think that it is definitely for the best. I think that I should be using my teen years to explore different flavours and culture of food. I ended up finding an anticonvulsant drug that worked perfectly first try and I am blessed to have done so. In fact, everyone was relieved that medication worked over a diet. But I definitely think that I will try out the lifestyle when I am slightly older.

I am my own research. I am a type 2 diabetic and I did not have to drop much weight to see results. Keto took my fasting blood sugar from the 300’s to the 90’s in two weeks, without medication. I then hit ketosis a month later. 6 months into keto I lost 50 lb, my Pcos gone as well. The first thing to go down was my stomach and they say they’re is no such thing as spot reduction🤗. I’ve been on keto for two years. I started following this woman Stephanie Person on KZbin and Facebook since she had 8 years on keto and looks fantastic. I learned as much as I could from Doctor Berg and the research of Dom D’agostino. From the research of Doctor Jason Fung MD, I added fasting and intermittent fasting. I have more energy now at 40, then I did in my mid twenties. I am so grateful for KZbin and for all these Angels that share all this information.

Diabetes getting worse aside, how does not consuming sugar heal diabetes based on the completely obvious observation that blood sugar goes down when not consuming it? If not eating sugar for a period of time truly heals diabetes, show me their blood sugar levels after bringing sugar back into the diet. Are you really that incapable of thinking about that? Now to address your question, since you clearly need someone to hold your fucking hand when google is readily available, ill explain it to you. Its pretty fucking simple, fat in the bloodstream blocks insulin from allowing the uptake of glucose into cells. nutritionfacts.org/2016/11/17/fat-is-the-cause-of-type-2-diabetes/

Just saying electrolytes is broad. Saying the specific nutrients can help them find the vegetables and again sea salt. If you do keto you need atleast 7-10 cups of veggies a day.

Or you could consume electrolytes through other means and also obtain those three components. I used to take magnesium pills, get my potassium from a mio electrolyte water flavoring, and put salt in there. Table salt. Doesn't matter what salt, if you're looking for mineral content and variety then sea salt, if you're just looking to cure keto flu any salt works. It's the sodium content that matters. But I'm sure the doc would know about it regardless.

Julian Leng I hear you but if you don’t specify people may assume they should eat bananas or other unhealthy sources. Sticking to the veggies is what worked for me.

I have been on the keto diet for around a month now and feel so much better. I still have a while to go, but even the initial weight loss has given me so much more energy to exercise etc.
