I agree with you it extremely underrated because the first Doctor Strange movie I didn’t really care for it seemed more science base than it was hard, which is what I didn’t like it. The commercial breaks in Wandavision were, apparently, originally supposed to be attempts by Strange to connect to her from outside the Hex. He would then have also shown up in the final end credits scene, linking to this movie. Unfortunately, COVID happened and the final episode of Wandavision had to be modified to fit the new conditions. I'm not sure where Cumberbatch was when all that started happening, but I wouldn't be surprised if he just wasn't anywhere that made filming those tiny scenes worth the effort. Even the scenes closing out Darcy's part in the story had to be replaced with "have fun in prison" because Kat Dennings was stuck in New York.

Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness pays tribute to classic horror and supernatural films like Carrie, IT, Twilight Zone, The Exorcist, The Ring, Drag Me To Hell, Shining, The Mist, The Grudge 2, The Evil Dead, Evil Dead II Army of Darkness, and Day Of The Dead. I love seeing Sam Raimi's 1973 Oldsmobile Delta 88 in all his movies. I also like a nod to The Matrix in this film. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness showcases Raimi's distinctive style flawlessly. With its exaggerated horror elements, rapid editing, and lively camera movements, it pays homage to his legendary body of work. I was excited to hear the theme from X-Men: The Animated Series (TV Series 1992-1997) in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The musical showdown between Doctor Strange and Sinister Strange was genuinely outstanding. While traveling through the Multiverse, Doctor Strange, and America, Chavez briefly saw The Living Tribunal. Another thing I really liked was the music in this movie. The Scarlet Witch is a complicated and morally ambiguous character. In general, I really enjoyed this film. I've been a fan of Scarlet Witch since 1990. Since 1995, I've been a fan of Doctor Strange.

I love when people say that this movie as horror vibes and dont realize that the director is the legendary Sam Rami that loves horror movies. Seeing Bruce Campbell in this movie is the best cameo, he and Sam Rami have a long relationship in working together since 1981 when it all started with "The Evil Dead". And btw Charlize Theron character is Clea she is Doctor Strage wife in the comics.

The reveal of who's in the Illuminati is pure fan-service, but it was such a thrill being surprised by that the first time. Not only is Captain Carter a live-action version of a What If character, but half the group (i.e. Peggy, Mordo, and Maria Rambeau) were all What-If-style examples of friends of the superheroes we know taking up their mantles in this universe. It was a wonderful surprise seeing Patrick Stewart and Anson Mount reprising their roles from Marvel properties outside the MCU, especially since Anson's time in the Marvel universe was cut short when the Inhumans TV show was (understandably) cancelled. And, when Marvel mentioned/announced bringing the Fantastic Four into the MCU, their was a big push from fans online to cast John Krasinski as Reed Richards, so that casting in this movie was next-level fan-service. ☺🧙‍♂

Originally Doctor Strange and The Multiverse of Madness was going to come out in October 2021 and Spider-Man No Way Home in December 2021. If you watch Multiverse of Madness first and then No Way Home that line Strange says: “In the grand calculus of the multiverse, their sacrifice means infinitely more than their lives. makes more sense when Stephen quotes it again in No Way Home.

The hotdog vendor was played by Bruce Campbell (Evil Dead and Army of Darkness) who has been in a lot of the director's previous movies. His cameo here and his hand beating him up is a wink toward his character Ash who had his hand possessed by the Necronomicon in Evil Dead 2. He had to cut off the hand and replace it with a chainsaw.

The Inhumans were supposed to have a film in Phase 3 of the MCU. They were introduced in the second season of Agents of SHIELD. Eventually the Inhumans movie was cancelled (the negotiations to buy the Fox Franchise were already in the works which - when completed - would give Disney/Marvel the rights to the Mutant characters) and the project re-written to become a short-lived television series as sort of a companion to Agents of SHIELD. Anson Mount played Black Bolt in that TV series as he did here in Multiverse of Madness. It may have been hard to tell exactly if you are not familiar with the character, but his Inhuman ability is his voice can tear people apart at the sub-atomic level - literally disintegrating them. As a result, he can never speak unless he wants to cause death and destruction.
@Slugbug

The Inhumans short television series is in no way a companion to Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. In AoS they never mentioned Atilan or Black Bolt or any of the "main" Inhumans. The Inhumans series never mentioned anything from AoS. I'm of the opinion that the mediocre Inhumans show would have only been improved by making a connection.

The film never mentions it, but Sam Rami confirmed that Doctor Strange, who died at the beginning of the film, was Defender Strange From Earth-617. In the comics, Earth-617 diverged from Mainline Earth-616 whenever Spider-Gwen of Earth-65 encountered her mainline counterpart, resulting in a new timeline in which Gwen was prevented from being thrown off the George Washington by Green Goblin. Maybe not the same Strange from those comics, Mainline MCU is referred to as Earth-616 which is also the designation for the Mainline Marvel Comics. So it could be the matter of differant groups having their own designation system, similar to how humanity has many differant calendars. Earth-838, the home of the "Illuminati", was astonishing. New York looked like a high-tech Utopia, maybe a reality that benefited from great minds such as Reed Richards and Tony Stark. The Ultron project worked, so the Age of Ultron never happened, and Tony got his army of Ultron Bots. Reed Richards created the Baxter Foundation, developing all the high-tech equipment you see throughout New York. Thanos was defeated on Titan, so he never made it to Earth; thus, the Snap/Blip never happened. And, of course, the X-Men, Inhumans, Fantastic Four, and Avengers all exist together. It makes you wonder how they'll explain why we've yet to see the X-Men and Fantastic Four within the mainline Earth-616 when they always lived in the history of these other worlds.

I was so excited to see this in theaters and was so upset after. I dislike horror especially ones with fast cut jump scares. The previews didn’t indicate this (not that I watched them) so I went in going for “Dr. Strange vibes” and almost had several panic attacks from the horror elements and gore. It also felt unfair to have to have seen Wandavision one, but also having seen that, felt like a huge escalation for her to become The Big Bad when Sokovia traumatized her in a big way. IDK. It didn’t feel right. Lastly, I felt terrible for America “Plot Device” Chavez who could have been super cool! Just bummed me out. Cool cameos though I guess.

It didn't ignore Wanda's development from WandaVision at all, it delved more into her emotional state. She was still broken at the end of WandaVision and she was also unable to move on from her family, as shown in the final scene of WandaVision when she was shown using the DarkHold to look throughout the Multiverse for her kids. And the movie 100% explains it. Strange clearly explains THREE times in M.o.M. about the DarkHold: "I know it corrupts everything and everyone that touches it" -Main Strange "She has the DarkHold and the DarkHold has her". -Main Strange "The DarkHold exacts a heavy toll. Not just on this reality, on its reader" Even in WandaVision, it was clearly explained that the DarkHold corrupted the soul. Both WandaVision and M.o.M. go out of their way explaining the dangers of the DarkHold and the influence it has on those who use it. You just have to pay more attention apparently lol

Blackbolt: leader of the Inhumans (basically their king). Here, he is played by the same actor reprising his role from the short-lived series, The Inhumans. They were literally created in the comics to replace the mutants at a time when Fox studios was making movies with Marvel comics characters. Marvel comics didn't want to give another studio plot ideas, so they stopped writing stories featuring mutant characters, thus the Inhumans were created. The Inhumans comics and the show were not very good. They are very similar to mutants, but they live on the moon...lol.

When you think about it, has Wanda ever been “good” in the MCU? The window in which she’s fighting with the Avengers is brief and she feels more like an ally than someone motivated by heroic impulses. She’s always been an injured soul, acting out of pain and trauma.

Putting one's life on the line to protect one's friends is heroic. But yes it's true that she is never seen being super altruistic for a complete stranger, but rather for people she's friends with, like Cap, Nat, Clint.

Wanda was emotionally broken and had gone mad. The faux grief of losing her make believe children was a distraction from the very real grief of losing Vision and her brother. She'd been off in her own world since Visions death.

Her children weren't make believe. They were alive and sentient, although created by magic. They weren't illusions, and variants of them do exist in other universes.

This movie takes nearly non-stop crap but I liked it even more than the first. Between Wong being a main character, Zombie Strange, and Wanda going Full Dark Willow (with the Illuminati standing in for Warren), it's an often-hilarious and brilliant spectacle that helps continue the ongoing narrative of the MCU. I swear, these days hating on the MCU is like Hipsters hating on Nickelback (though, Deadpool & Wolverine is liable to shut some of them up...for a while).

I have read a lot of valid criticism of the films/series in the MCU post-Endgame, and a lot of it really fascinates me (and some of it I can resonate with as well). That said, I also can't help but feel like some people out there just have it in their minds that Endgame and before it is the best we're ever going to get and nothing can top it. Having that mindset can definitely make people pick apart a movie/show instead of enjoying it for what it is. I feel like my biggest criticism about Phase 4 is the amount of TV series to get through, which is funny because I have enjoyed a lot of them. It just makes this journey longer and at this point I'm really starting to feel like I'm in km 38 of a marathon and I just want it to be over. And I don't want to feel that way... which is why I'm spacing out these releases a bit more than in the past and also incorporating the non-MCU series into my viewing because they're so different and help me stay excited.

@@kaiielle The MCU has certainly been a bit more "hit-and-miss" since Endgame. Though, how could it not be? That film was the nigh-on perfectly realized and executed culmination of a dozen years and two-dozen films. Some folks lack the perspective to realize that it was a bit of a "reset point" for what comes next and were expecting that level of spectacle from there on. And I'll agree that the TV series are a lot of the issue. That's a ton of stuff to watch, that is a bit of an obligation if you don't want to miss upcoming references and connections. Some of it can certainly feel like a bit of a slog (though I suspect my favourites might differ from others). Anywhoozles, Cheers and Happy Weekend from the East Coast. You're Awesome! 🥃☮❤

"You break the rules and become a hero, I do it and become the enemy. That doesn't seem fair." Said every villain ever. He broke the rules to save others. She broke them for personal gain. AND murdered innocent people. She's never been a hero.

"she's never been a hero" who saved cap from ultron on the train? who saved nat & okoye from the machines with the blades? who put her own feelings aside to save half the universe by ending her love's life? obviously she's the villain of this movie, the darkhold made her that way n that's the whole point. but to say she's "never" been a hero is objectively wrong
