@michaeldeboer99404 жыл бұрын
I disagree though. Maybe there’s an attempt to be more Moffat-like, but it fails. This story is an echo of better stories, much like the entire season really. Moffat knew story structure, understood arcs, and this episode is just setup without payoff. No gimmicks, no clever idea. The only thing this episode has is when the Doctor in the car tells her she understands how she must feel, losing her mind and making sense of her identity, and then having the roles reversed and the Doctor questions herself. That’s a Chibnall-y moment to me. The RTD elements are the Judoon and Jack, the action plot, the police gags, the car ride and the domestic aspect of the couple at home and getting to know the town. Moffat never puts his people in a car and lets them talk. He wants energy and teleports and zooming about. The twists and turns are just Utopia again in a mostly weak episode.

My theory is the Fugitive Doctor (Ruth Clayton) is part of the Season 6B theory (a big gap between The War Games and Spearhead From Space). The Ruth Clayton incarnation could exist between the second and third doctors. It is fitting considering we never actually saw Patrick Troughton change into Jon Pertwee. The Time Lords could’ve easily wiped this part of the Doctor’s memory to make it seem he immediately went from his second to his third incarnation and was exiled to 20th century Earth. Plus Ruth’s Tardis is already a police box.
@BlueSparxLPs4 жыл бұрын
Definitely this. There's also the important detail that Ruth never says that she doesn't recognize the Sonic. She gives a non-answer of, "Smart enough not to need one." I think a lot of people tend to ignore that response and assume she can't be between 2 and 3 because they only remember the Doctor assuming she doesn't recognize it.
@stephenmurphy22124 жыл бұрын
nightowl Blue Sparx just said that she never said she didn’t recognise the sonic.
@BlueSparxLPs4 жыл бұрын
@@nightowl8477 That's what I'm saying. The answer Ruth gives doesn't tell us anything either way. The way she answers implies that she might know about the Sonic and just doesn't use one, but they could just as easily go the opposite way with it too. We have no idea whether or not she recognized it because she doesn't tell us if she does.
@YoungCodger4 жыл бұрын
Ruth *is* Pre-Hartnell; anything else said is from a place of denial. It's quite hard to accept, but until something says otherwise, we're stuck with it, like how Sacha is after Missy. It would make more *sense* if Ruth was Season 6B, just as it would if Sacha was *before* Missy, but until something says otherwise, *that* is what *is,* not *could be.*
@stephenmurphy22124 жыл бұрын
Vortex Infinite Excuse me Chibs never confirmed or denied that Ruth is pre-Hartnell. Same with the Agent O incarnation of the Master being before the Missy incarnation (Although O could still be after Missy considering Gallifrey was still around in Missy’s time). We don’t actually know whereabouts in the Doctors timeline the Ruth Clayton incarnation belongs. So for all we know she could be between Troughton and Pertwee. It’s open to interpretation by fans.

"What would Dr Who continuity be, without blatant and unresolveable contradictions?" - Steven Moffat
@CaptainScarLeg4 жыл бұрын
SPOILER-WARNING: If you haven't finished watching the latest series don't read this. Canon in a show like Doctor Who is inherently malleable and subject to the current showrunner's whim, but there still needs to be effort on the writer's part to have new plots fit in as well as reasonably possible with previously established lore and at least be respectful to what was laid out by previous writers. Some inconsistencies and contradictions are pretty much inevitable as the show is just too huge to keep everything straight, so that's expected. The War Doctor is a perfect example of how to do it right. Moffat managed to work that into the lore and clearly explain it within the context of the show. Some of the things Chibnall does during this series are so incompatible with established plot-points and disrespectful to previous writers that it's kind of ridiculous. Nevermind the Timeless Child nonsense at the end, just what he does to the Timelords alone is bad enough. We got to see The Doctor coming to terms with what he did to Gallifrey since the beginning of New Who all the way to the point that he finally goes back and saves them. It takes 13 incarnations to come together to perform one of the biggest stunts/technical feats of all time to save his people, his family. And then The Master kills them all anyway. Oh that's right, The Master is more evil and twisted than ever before. Lets disregard the full-circle development Missy had, finally coming to terms with the evils she/he had committed over the course of her lives and finally standing with The Doctor. I could absolutely accept that if there was good reason for it, but Chibnall doesn't even try to explain this version of The Master or how he even exists. I could accept Missy survived somehow (that's expected as it's established that The Master always finds a way) or that he's from an alternate timeline, an alternate universe, a clone, etc. But nah, no effort on Chibnall's part to explain him beyond "The Timelords lied to me so I snapped and killed them all... uhh, somehow." You know, because it took literally the biggest war of all time (and space) to even get close to killing off the Timelords but nope, The Master can do it by himself. Even though when he was resurrected to fight in that war he ran to the end of time in fear because it was so horrific. Sure, that makes a ton of sense. Don't get me wrong by the way; Sacha's Master in the best thing in this series, I really like him. That character just deserved better storytelling. Oh hey remember River Song? Remember how she became a Time Lord-like being because she was conceived within the time vortex, basically fast-forwarding the evolution Gallifreyans went through over thousands of years to become Time Lords. Oh what's that? That's not how Gallifreyans became Time Lords now? Oh, I guess River Song doesn't make sense any more. Thanks Chibnall. I could go on and I've barely scratched the surface of what the Timeless Child plotline has done, but the simple truth is if you handle a show's lore and history with care and write a good story, you don't see a show get its lowest viewership ever. You don't see so many die-hard fans who have followed the show since 2005 or 1963 leaving the fandom. You don't see the incredible divide in the fanbase or the massive backlash. These things don't occur randomly, they happen for a reason and it can't be a good one. It speaks volumes. If you enjoy it then by all means, more power to you. Just don't dismiss the rest of us as "cry babies" because we care as much as we do.

@@CaptainScarLeg Has Gallifrey been destroyed before?
@mjm30914 жыл бұрын
The issue is not in continuity or not-fluid canon. The issue is in sloppy writting. Whole finale was so goddamn uneventful and boring. Whole Lone Cyberman plot was literally thrown out of the window. And what I dont like the most about the whole Timeless Child bs, is that Doctor stops being a hardworking individual. Instead she was born special. Which kinda invalidates how she proved on multiple occasions how she exceeds Gallifreyans thanks to her wits and hard work. I wish it was all just a lie and it is Rassilon who is the real Timeless Child or something. And then on top of those things you could go on tirade about messing up so many episodes and their continuity. And for what? For cheap thrill and inclusion of some colourful faces from old episodes as reincarnation. Wish that instead Ruth was either alternative reincarnation, Valeyard - lying about everything or some mid early Doctor, who actually got granted full cycle back then for being a special agent. Or if we are going for pre Hartnell era, then at least don't use Police Box.

The thing about Ruth being before the 1st Doctor is that the TARDIS is supposed to look like a Police Box because the 1st Doctor spent so much time in 1963 it got stuck looking that way. IMO that's one piece of lore that shouldn't be altered; it was established all the way back in episode 2. Maybe they could say that Ruth's TARDIS only looks like that because the 13th Doctor's TARDIS was also hanging around. This is why I'm a fan of the 2B theory, especially since it seems like the Doctor worked for the Gallifreyan higher-ups and that's why she's on the run. Don't get me wrong, I like Jo Martin's portrayal of the Doctor. I'm just hoping that there's a resolution to all this that is at least somewhat satisfying.
@ProQuo3604 жыл бұрын
Moggetslittlesister I think the some of the episodes we’ll be heading into is the Fugitive Era and the 6B theory as you mentioned. The Brain of Morbius episodes hinted at six faces the Doctor had used (part of the theorizing so bear with me lol) and there were crimes the Doctor committed (hence the Judoon) that set them on the path before 3rd comes in. There was a comic that shows the transition of 2-3 but as you stated, we never saw what happened between that time. It’s also fun to note that Baker’s Doctor doesn’t really like to talk about Gallifrey whilst on his adventures. What I think a lot of people forget is we’re seeing a setup to who the Time Lords were in reality. We got a glimpse at the end of 10s era. Saw some details we never knew between 11-12 and how they were egomaniacs beyond compare (6th Doctor’s speech still is amazing. Brilliant, Colin) and now we have Jodie’s stories which started off light and easy to prepare us for some deep and dark elements ahead. I know how people feel after Timeless Children but things to remember that are key: The Master always lies and honestly is as clueless as the Doctor is. The Doctor is dodgy on their own past details sometimes which is why the age factor comes up often of them trying to remember how old they truly are. There’s more to the universe than the same old song and dance because I think we never got to experience the Doctor in a way that’s contemporary and modern as they’ve been doing lately. I mean hell, we get these next couple seasons on HBO Max. It’s going to be amazing!

Jack looks excited but about everything but at super nova Australia in 2018 or something like that jack was Answering question and someone asked what he thought of the new doctor and he looked at a photo of them up and then down and said “really that’s it”.And it was great he also wore a tardis dress

It's taken all this time for me to think, hey. Shouldn't they both, like, forget they ever met? Y'know, multi-Doctor style?
@ciarantc78814 жыл бұрын
I think the latest incarnation of the Doctor remembers the multi-doctor events. In DotD, 11 sort of remembered the whole thing after the fact, so if Ruth is a previous incarnation than 13 then it would make sense for neither to remember until 13 lives through it as 13 instead of as Ruth

Wow. I am now suddenly sure I asked this question before somewhere and got pretty much the same answers! And then forgot, which is both ironic and downright embarrassing. Thanks (again, probably)

He dyed his air actually for the dancing show. In reality, his hair still has that brown sheen. He’s got the gray a little but is still just as frugal and youthful

Another thing people are forgetting is that whenever our quote unquote first doctor stole the TARDIS it was a blank slate and then became the tardis we know today as the police box. So in order for this doctor to exist it would either have to be post first doctor or previous to the first doctor traveled with the same TARDIS and then it became the police box and their travels came to an end somehow or another which the time Lords fixed the chameleon circuit and sent it back to a blank State form and then later on the first doctor stole the TARDIS and it reverted back to the police box

Jack with his cryptic one liners. It would be funny if right until the face of bo he just periodically showed up to issue cryptic one liners. As far as Jack aging, at the end of the series 3 finale he said he is aging, just slowly. Rewatch that last scene where he revels he is the face of Bo. He mentions aging. If they go with that, then the Jack we saw in this episode is far older than torchwood jack

I think at times people, myself included, think to much about the numbers when talking about the doctors. The numbers are more of a way to say hey this doctor was before this doctor and that doctor was before this other doctor. I'm not saying the revelation in this episode isn't weird or that it even makes sense just that the numbers are more of a guideline and not a hard fast rule.

They made a very good point, how does this new doctor have the same malfunctioning chameleon circuit tardis as our current doctor? If we follow the timeless child lore is she before or after the current doctor? Didn't the first doctor stole the tardis from galifrey, which still looks like a pillar rather than a police box??

Not when the new "lore" fucks with the old one. By all means, add to the story of the show, but don't start taking things away or re-writing what was already there. But...I'm mostly talking of later episodes, so...spoilers.

@@ms_scribbles You're asking Doctor Who not to do something that is basically intrinsic to the entire show lol. This is hardly the first time it's "changed the lore."
@cmc28384 жыл бұрын
@@BlueSparxLPs But never this drastically. The timeless children literally changes EVERYTHING! And the go to excuse from S12 fans is "this doesn't change anything it just adds to lore" which is utter bollacks. It changes everything we ever knew about the doctor. It changes everything we ever knew about regeneration. The doctor isn't from Gallifrey. The first Doctor is technically no longer the first Doctor. The amount of plot holes it has created is just unbelievable. Made past Who episodes like Time of the Doctor for example pointless and meaningless. I'm glad the fan base isn't standing for this trash and good on them.

@TheBS100011 ай бұрын
The 3rd Doctor claimed to be at least a thousand years old. And the 7th Doctor actually hinted that he helped Rassilon establish Time Lord society, which indicates The Doctor was much older than everyone thought. And yes, there was a scene with the 4th Doctor that suggested that he had at least 8 faces before the 1st Doctor, though the scene was ambiguous enough that people argue over its meaning. The were also two moments during Capaldi's run that suggested The Doctor was once a little girl: Missy told Clara that she knew The Doctor when he was a little girl and Capaldi told Bill that he knew Missy when they were both young boys before caveating and saying he thinks he was a boy at the time.
