Calculating the average score of each season (by adding each serial's score and dividing the total by how many serials are in a given season) gives a rough estimation of Davis's ranking of the 60s seasons worst to best. 6. Season 5: 5.71 5. Season 1: 5.75 4. Season 3: 5.90 3. Season 6: 6.14 2. Season 2?: At least 6.22 1. Season 4?: 6.55 NOTE: Since The Web Planet wasn't rated, a proper score can't be calculated for Season 2. However, if the Web Planet was given a rating of 1 (the lowest score Davis could give unless he gives out zeros) it would still place it at least number 2 in the ranking. The only way it could be formally settled is if Davis decided to clarify which season he prefers or label this ranking as bullshit anyway. 😁 BONUS: Looks like Davis approves of this ranking! Thank you! Also, the 2nd Doctor's era averages a 6.14 while the 1st Doctor's averages at least a 6 (The Web Planet skews things yet again!). Making it seem that Davis prefers the 2nd Doctor's era over the 1st's era (which matches with his preference of the 2nd Doctor over the 1st in his tier ranking video). Too bad that once I edit this the heart goes away :( I'll do a comment next time Davis hearts one of them!

The "every revival story rated" video was what first brought me to your channel, so I'm very happy to see you tackling this. One note, having the story titles up on screen might make it easier to follow?

Aw the 60s, my favorite era of the show. Has so much charisma, brilliant characters, fascinating stories, and a character arc for the Doctor that is one of the best in the show.

The 60’s-early 70’s is in my opinion the best era of the show, and I’m glad to see you give it it’s due. I may only agree with about 1/3rd of your rankings. But I respect each one and see why you rank each story that way! Great Vid!!!

It wasn't until the animations that I really appreciated Season 4. Season 5 is the balls-to-the-wall "monster of the week" season which is a thrillride individually but it all ends up feeling very blurry. Something about Season 4 is just so whimsical and cloudy and comfortable and connected, it has a very distinct feel and I love every story in it (even The Faceless Ones), it just feels like peak 60s Who (might also be because Troughton was much more serious in that first year)
@slitfidgetspinnerdabbodmod9953 Жыл бұрын
In defence of The Faceless Ones, it does contain my favourite dialogue exchange so far: Baddie: You have 5 seconds to change your mind Jamie: You'll have to kill me then Baddie: I said 5 seconds. 5... 4... 3... That aside, it's nice to see a fellow enjoyer of The Ark - probably my favourite Hartnell story

Funny enough The Evil of the Daleks animation really opened my third eye to that story and made it maybe my favorite Troughton story (The Mind Robber and sorry Sam but The War Games remain stiff competion). Yeah it's long and unfocused, but I think the most you can ask for from a long Doctor Who serial is for all the individual parts to be entertaining in thier own right even if they don't quite come together as a strong whole. And yeah, give me Jamie engaging in a one-man rescue the princess from the tower mission, perfect for the character, and seeing the action and supporting characters brought to life makes it feel more like it's own Jamie adventure, rather than the padding I felt from the audio. It becomes everything you could ask for from a Troughton adventure in one package, and with animation that is acceptable-to- pretty-good no less. As far as I'm concerned when a 60's seriel is more than 4 parts it needs to have either a lot of stuff happening in the individual episodes (The Chase) or be an effective slow burn that wouldn't be improved by getting to the point (Power of the Daleks). Meanwhile the problem got much worse in the Pertwee years, as the exciting James Bond action stories rarely benefited from the length, The Silurians is the only story I can think of that uses 6 or 7 episodes effectively. Also The War Games would benefit from losing two episodes and that's it okay I'm done now bye.

@SamyulDavis At least you're honest with not cutting it too much slack, I think it's fun! In fairness, it's the first time Dr Who's done "they go back in time and find anachronisms". I'm inclined to give it that along with the comedy of Steven thinking they're both frauds. Admittedly there's a bit of faff in the middle with Bill being on holiday, but three parts at least Sam!

Its basically a mini-season, break it up into 6 parts like it's Flux and let the sadness and stakes sink in over the course of a week or so. Never read the novelisation, but the soundtrack is your best bet. Find it on audiobook bay or the cutdown version on Whoflix if its still available

Sorry, the Moonbase lost me when the Doctor's train of thought leapt from "the Cyberman are entering an airtight base from a vacuum" to "there's one in the room right now!" Me: "What? Sure... What?! No...." The Cybermen were doing so well at being secretive up to the point episode 2 needed to end on a cliffhanger. After that failed Perception roll, I just stopped caring. Is there anything I can say about a First Doctor serial... I can't. Unlike the Second Doctor, these are accurately assessed. "The Second Doctor isn't an idiot, he only acts like one." Second Doctor: "Trees omit Carbon Dioxide! The CO2 they give off caused this ice age!" People: See, he's brilliant.

The Invasion? I do not like this one; The show was doing so well with its Cyberman lore up to this point with linear and non-linear outings thanks to time travel, building up a lore and a pre, post AND "present" history... suddenly they're attacking 70s London "Which is The Future" with zero explanation, ruining all that wonderful backstory work. But like every Troughton epsiode will show, that Cybermen theme is ten times better than .... every episode they're in. Sorry Web of Fear, you fell in with a bad crowd. Like its own commentary said, this should have been four episodes. And set in the future. Or been a "True" Cybermen origin story... there's so many places this story went wrong.
