I previously heard you mention the Crizal Sapphire coatings. I spent a small fortune on them and they were the absolute worst coatings I ever had. After a few months, it looked like I had scratched the lenses with sandpaper. That was just the coating peeling off. My local optical shop honored the warranty except I had to pay $25 for shipped to and from and wait about 3 weeks. The same thing happened about 10 months later. No warranty for the second failure. Since then I have had great luck with standard coatings and lenses from Costco and from Zenni.

I've bee using prevencia coated lens for ages (at least 7-8 years) I even wash it with soap or even use sanitizers. No issues here. I think the issue is with the 'premium' sapphire coating rather than crizal itself. But I've heard that Zeiss is actually better to avoid glare, so I am thinking of getting a spare with Duravision, but I can't make up my mind which one to go for, platinum (sapphire competitor) or Blueprotect (prevencia competitor).

I've worn glasses for over 20 years. Always too cheap to get the anti reflective coating. But finally got nutty and spent the extra $5 at Zenni. SO much better at night. I never realized how much flare and glare there was, and the farther you look, the worse it is. With the AR coating, night time vision is suddenly much more clear. @DoctorEyeHealth2 жыл бұрын
Good question. In my opinion there would be very little benefit to the AR glasses alone without a prescription in them. I The AR helps prevent reflections and glare caused by wearing lenses. If you don't need to wear lenses, then AR coating will not necessarily help your eyesight. You can get yellow tinted driving lenses with no prescription...and then get AR coating on those. AR coating would help in that case.

@YBIagent2 жыл бұрын
Very useful vid. Now, let's see you do one on the various tinted lenses from yellow, blue, green, violet, etc., as they all do serve specific purposes like yellow for sports field vision/dusk-driving, etc. *A lil secret... The blue or purple tinted ones seem to aid those with colorblindness, esp. red/green. [This as it is very hard to find red ones, esp. in polarised.] I have Rx pairs in yellow & blue, aside Transitions. (I dod suspect this is why most Enchroma Trivex lenses are more violet tinted as well.) I have mild deutan, or green light wavelength weakness. Have taken both Ishihara & H.R.R. book tests to reveal same results each time as it is congenital w/ my grandfather & brother also having it to some degree. (My brother less than I.) I've also got mild visual snow/static syndrome to go along w/ it which also creates a consistent, low-pitched ear ringing or some sort of tinnitus. But, we're veering way off course here...

@DoctorEyeHealth Жыл бұрын
Diffraction spikes (those straight lines of light you describe) are often explained as being caused by "astigmatism" however, diffraction spikes are unlikely to be caused by astigmatism unless someone has very high amounts of astigmatism or some level of corneal scarring. Most diffraction spikes are caused by eyelashes and eyelid interactions or defects in optical correction, such as a greasy or dirty glasses or contact lens.
