I just wanted to share another use for hypochlorous acid from personal experience. My mother developed shingles on her eye and face last year. She was in severe pain from it. I happened to have this product on hand and I knew it was safe for the eye area, so I had her try it. It offered a decent amount of relief for her! Afterwards, I researched the product and it’s use for shingles, and sure enough, it is recommended for that! I was so glad I had some and thought to have her try it.

I'm an optometrist and I recommend hypochlorous acid daily to my patients with blepharitis, meibomitis, and styes. Great to know it helps with patients with eczema too, since of lot of patients get flare ups on their lids.

​@@ldavis4428 I, personally, have found the larger bottles, marketed for cleaning and such, to be very drying and harsh on the skin, particularly the gallon bottles. They have a strong concentration of chlorine (200-500ppm) and are also a very high pH (like bleach or baking soda.) Not sure if the dryness is caused by the chlorine or the pH, or both??? I found a version marketed as mouthwash by Briotech that is a better deal than the smaller bottles for skin. It has a lower (100ppm) chlorine concentration. It worked well for my new piercings.

Hi I discovered this way back at the beginning of the pandemic. I have eczema and the alcohol gels were a nightmare for my hands - the skin was literally aflame and so painful. I researched alternatives as a hand sanitiser and this was game changing for me. I've used it consistently since. My hands are back to normal and despite washing them often aren't nearly as sore or inflamed. I was a Registered nurse for many years until disability so my hands have always been washed a lot, but not using alcohol gels has been incredibly beneficial. I still have to slather creams on them overnight and use moisturiser during the day, but they were so painful with the alcohol gels and that is no longer an issue. I think it's very under rated and was surprised it isn't used more than it is. Best wishes.

I love hypochlorous acid and use it in multiple ways. I use it on my husband to help him heal after having some suspicious moles removed. I also spray it directly on my *closed* eyes especially during allergy season when I tend to tear up a lot and my eyes sometimes become crusty. I also have a gallon jug of it in a higher percentage to clean my home with. I use it by first spraying down my quartz countertops and wiping them down then I spray it again and allow it to air dry. The continuous spray bottles are great for this. I no longer have to use chemicals to sanitize my home and that makes me very happy. Both products and the spray bottles are on Amazon.

Obviously you should be following your doctor’s recommendations - these comments are not medical advice. Ask your doctor if HOCl is something you can try if you haven’t yet.

Tower 28 (a beauty/skincare brand) has a great serum version now of hypochlorous acid that has really helped my acne. Also, been using 10% azaleic acid from Paula's Choice. Been a long road w/this acne (and yes, I'm seeing a Derm), but these 2 products I found on my own. Also, love Dr Dray and her "no-nonsense" skin care advice. I have a giant tub of Cerave that I use at night that helps w/the dry skin because of Tretinoin.

Holy cow, I only heard about HA after I purchased a wound rinse for my nostril piercing. I was looking for a rinse that was safe to use around the eyes, nose, and mouth. After my sea salt soak and saline rinse, I spray this on as a final defense against infection. I am so glad I came across this solution! I learned so much about the skin! How amazing!

Thanks Dr Shah and Dr Maxfield, I use HOCl spray for my underarms plus Panoxyl for washing to get rid of bacteria and to deal with hyperpigmentation. I haven’t worn deodorant or antiperspirant anymore for months now. I still get a bit stinky on the pits sometimes but that’s because it’s time for me to shower haha, but for the most part I don’t have bad body odor anymore!

I just put a squirt of hand sanitizer on my arm pits about 5 minutes before I bathe. That kills enough bacteria that odor is rarely a problem. Like your hypochlorous acid use there too. But I smear a little milk of magnesia on my pits after bathing, and that usually works very well.

@@gracie979797 Hey, hand sanitizer is toxic. I wouldnt use that under the arms because of our very important sweat glands. We don't want to impair them because they help detox our brain. Addiru, the alcohol isn't good for the skin and you may impair the skin barrier over time which will cause problems later on.

@@lisagardner4814 can't hurt to try it on your eyes. To be honest, I haven't tried to use it for dry inflamed skin so I can't even speculate. I am no specialist - just an observant consumer. I don't think it can hurt to try it on your skin - patch test to make sure you don't make things worse.

Do you have a specific way to use it for ocular rosacea? I've been using a compounded ivermectin cream for rosacea and have noticed that my eyes aren't nearly as dry even though you can't get the cream near the eye. My guess is that it has simply lowered the demodex mite population. I have an eye surgery (vitrectomy) coming up soon and would love to get the dry eye as under control as I possibly can for a better outcome. Thank you for any suggestions.

The HA works wonders for this, and as a bonus it does decrease inflammation. Same with rosacea on the rest of the face. It calms the storm or more like helps keep the storm from starting.

I lost a lot of weight between kids and in combination with two pregnancies and two C-sections, I have the (extremely embarrassing) belly hang. Azelaic Acid has been touted as a treatment for papulopustular rosacea. You need to get a prescription for concentrations >=15% like Finacea gel or Azclear. G'luck!

It is recommended to use the HA and then let it dry before continuing with the rest if the routine. I personally wash my face, spray my Hypochlorous acid, then wait an hour before applying any other skincare. Obviously this cannot be done in the morning so I use it the evening.

I'm not an expert here but from my understanding the shelf life depends on how it was made and the company should provide a expiration date. There are several methods of creating the solution and at varying strengths. The solution will only decrease in strength over time and never become like bleach. There are ways to test this but I cannot recall.

I've been making my own HOCL for YEARS and use it all the time. Specially after surgery or large wounds. I soak a bandage in it and tape it over the wound and it heals like crazy. My wife carries it in a small bottle and sprays our hands after using a shopping cart, etc... If someone is really sick in the house, you can even put it in an ultrasonic humifier in their room and it will help minimize there down time.

After a lot of years (and trust me I tried everything) I finally finded the best combo for my oily/hormonal acneprone skin 😊 Cerave creme + adapalene 0.1% at night, and Cerave creme + Vichy capital soleil 50+ at morning ❤️🙏 I'm using it every single day for one year in very thin leyer (except sunscrean, I'm using it a lot 😁). Just that. Less is more for my skin... Take care of your skin ppl, that's the biggest organ that we have. Stay healty!

According to skinsmart per manufacturer response on Amazon question -the entire line has identical formula which bears out looking at ingredients and percent list so why would one spend $14-26 or more on 8oz labeled for wound care vs $12 for 2x16oz labeled for Hand sanitizer spray or $31 for 128oz for general surface disinfectant... Again same label with same percent and mfg stated at least once that the "line" has same formula

I actually make my own HOCI. There’s a number of machines on the market. I’ve used both Force of Nature, but now I have Nature Chlor. It’s just electrolyzed salt, water, and vinegar. There’s online sources that tell you what ppm to use for things like skin, general sanitation, mouth wash, to cleaning your floors, toilet, and your counters. It really is a miracle toxin free chemical. The diy versions are not shelf stable, however. It only lasts about two weeks before it starts to weaken. But it’s super cheap to make so it’s not a big deal to just dump it down the drain or in your toilet to use the last of it. I recommend EVERYONE look into it.
