In my Real Doctor vs. TV Doctor medical drama review video, I promised that if you got that video to 10,000 likes I would record myself reacting to a full grey's anatomy episode. You got it to 20,000 likes! You have spoken and I have listened. You should know that I do get the question a lot from patients as well. Is grey's anatomy accurate? So I finally decided to take a dive and find out!
In this video, I sit down and watch the first ever Grey's Anatomy episode. Basically, a real doctor reacts to greys anatomy! I grew up watching ER and other TV medical dramas so I had a suspicion I would enjoy the show. I have to say this, greys anatomy is not medically accurate but the way it describes the characters as residents is very accurate. The hospital drama is real and I feel the show did a good job highlighting the difficulties of being a resident, inside the hospital and out. The one medical scene which totally threw me is when the surgeons automatically assumed that the seizure patient will need surgery before even coming to a diagnosis. That is not real life medicine.
It surprised me that the show is actually very entertaining and I actually enjoy the drama between McDreamy / Derek Shepherd and Meredith Grey. Apparently, TV doctors do have souls haha. The hospital romance is real!
Get this video to 15k likes If you want me to do another doctor reacts to greys or doctor reacts to the good doctor or any other show. Please comment down below the name of your favorite show and episode. Love you all and appreciate the support!

I worked in (German) hospitals for quite a while. And most of the times doctors were busy doing paperwork, visiting their patients maybe once a day, while nurses did most of the work portrayed in Grey's Anatomy. At least work that doesn't include surgery or life threatening situations. And of course there was drama, but it almost never had anything to do with people falling in love with each other xD

Nurses rock. As a doctor you got all this stuff on your mind and it's sometimes hard to lighten up, which then makes the interaction with the next patient more stiff and therefore more tiring for you and unpleasant for the patient. But I've met some nurses who would not only assist you with the technical stuff, like finding a vein that 3 other doctors couldn't, but also lighten up the mood, tell jokes and just have an attitude that increases morale. Makes you feel safe, knowing you have them there, which in turn makes you more efficient.

As a nurse, I love how he acknowledges that a hospital runs with a lot of different people - nurses, doctors, physios, etc. Every hospital also runs with cleaners and orderlies, PCAs, engineers, maintenance men, cooks, etc - all those important support workers. It's a wheel, and every cog has an important role.

A Phillippine nourse saved my mom´s life in Memorial Hermann Hospital, when she noticed that mom´s temperature was really high. Then she took me to their nourses room and show me how to put ice into gloves and run to mom´s side and place that 3 golves in her neck and armpits in order to save her. Before that, I had touched the emergency or call button, but they didn´t respond. But that nourse took a risk when she saw me running through an empty hallway and helped me. The head of nourses was not there and she ever had the idea that mom was diabetic and hipertensive... but that phillippine nourse knew that mom was not... but her superior didn´t hear what she said. That Phillippine nourse, aside to hang two bags of serum and antibiotics, placed the gloves with ice and runned away ´cause she was, for some reason, afraid of her head of nourses. At the end, the Titular Dr. came and recognized the head of nourses mistake... but no one ever knew who helped me... that angelical nourse saved my mom´s life that night... thank you wherever you are.

I was just talking about this today. Whenever I'd go to hospitals I'd see nurses and CNAs like 95% of the time. Doctors came out once in a blue moon and we'd interact 5 minutes max... The show overestimates how prevalent physicians are and how much they do.

as a nurse, when he took the time to say how it’s the nurses who keep hospitals running and that it’s often up to us to catch the mistakes of doctors and other MDT members i’ve honestly never felt so humbled & validated. have never heard that from the doctors on wards I’ve worked and it’s too true! my experience is that nurses’ insight and knowledge for a patient is often undervalued when it comes to contribution towards diagnosis and treatment, we’re the ones who often know these people the best as we’re the ones at their bedside providing direct care. Thankyou for this recognition! i bet the nurses in your MDT very much appreciate you 😊

A nurse actually saved my Mom's life from a disgusting doctor. The doctor kept giving my mother blood pressure medication for her stroke but it would paralyze her and when the nurse stopped the medication she would instantly be able to talk and move then the doctor would come back order the medication saying he needed to see it happening but would leave a second later. All she could do on the medication was move her eyes and she legit had tears when it was happening. After the third time the nurse told the doctor no more because it was affecting my dad, sister, and I emotionally.

I've watched too much ER as a (young) child, mom was distracted during ER and I'd watch with her, so I probably saw too much blood and suffering. The thing that scared me the most was patients (kids and adults) that'd scream and refused to be helped or operated on, which were (in ER) always met with a stern look, a forceful hand, an anesthesia-mask to knock them out *or* just completely ignored and talked over. It took me a while to convince myself that the "shut up, I'm too busy for your tears"-attitude was for television. And then I got a nasty experience during a difficult, 45-minute-long procedure (getting my wisdomteeth out) with an assistant that (for some unknown reason) started taunting me and laughed when I burst into tears. I immediately requested another one for the other 2 teeth and the second assistant was very kind. And yet, the surgeon kept on ignoring my requests to stop or pause, they left me laying in a room with the door open when they were called away for something (there were guests randomly stepping in, wondering why there was a seemingly lifeless body with green tearstainedpaper covering the face on that 'table') and I've had my fair share of horrorstories from acquintances, that had nurses and surgeons with zero respect for any tears or fears and that don't ask before putting fingers, needles or other objects into bodies of patients with no *urgent* medical emergencies. I have no problem with my own doctors (calm and don't rush you, listen to what you have to say first) or dentists or any other caretakers. I am not even that afraid of pain. But I am deadly afraid of an ER-like scenario, where you get wheeled into the hospital like you're a shoppingcart on Black Friday, while you scream bloody murder; 'Can anyone please answer me?!" and they all decide to ignore your requests or forcefully start stabbing IV's in your arm without permission. I think I would respond with agression and bite their arm. How "normal" is this sortof behaviour towards patients? I know people are overworked and underpaid but I still shudder when I remember 'my' assistant, and it's been years.

The GCS was off, pupils looked FINE, only had him on a NASAL CANULA and thats only scratching the surface from what i can remember off the top of my head. I also saw some maneuvre in another episode where they were giving CPR to a dead lady but they were also doing it abdominally at the same time and i had to LOOK UP what the heck this was and then show my teachers who have been paramedics for YEARS and even they didnt know what the heck that was lmao. @@strawberryme08 Wrong. Eating a pizza once in a while does not make a diet so bad that you cannot compensate with exercise. I cannot believe people still make this basic mistake. @@spillme7279 Yep. Phlebotomists are somehow way less good at it from my experience than you would expect considering it’s their job, however usually if they look much older they’re probably an absolute pro and might be better than everyone else on this list. ER nurses generally are better from my experience at hitting quick because they need to, but paramedics often are like that but even faster. Then there’s usually that one person who everyone there knows that they can call in when either in an ER or lab, someone who usually looks older and oftentimes seems like they know how to do an IV right with that magic touch, despite not being the first person they ask.

I always wonder why these shows treat nurses like they didn’t spend years learning about medicine. I have sickle cell, so I’ve been to many hospitals and I’ve honestly spent more time with my nurses, then I have any doctor. Nurses are the ones that really know their patients because they spend the most time with their patients. These shows act like nurses are just assistants to the doctors with no training.

The best thing my neurologist said to me was: I don't know what it is, but I know what it's not. Better than what the last specialist said. 'it's all in your mind. Go home'. This was after I got my finger jammed in the car door and didn't realize. The issue was pins and needles, which changed into a loss of sensation. Hence why I didn't realize my finger was completely stuck in the door until I was yanked back trying to walk away. Still don't know what it is, but at least the list of what it's not is getting bigger

1:25 I most definitely worked 48-hour shifts during residency. 👁️👄👁️ As long as your hours average out to a maximum of 80 per week, (per four week period,) you're still within the guidelines. When I was interviewing for fellowships, I had an opportunity to speak to a resident at the hospital I was considering - I found out that often, (often enough that I would call it 'routine,' personally,) due to staffing issues, residents would end up ON for 160hrs/wk, and the hospital would just "give" them a week off to keep within the LZL limits...but would also require the residents to use their PTO. 🙂🙃Needless to say, I did not rank that program.
