Dodge 2500 second gen gas to diesel conversion (V10 to Cummins 24v swap)

I made this video to help those out (like myself) who are wanting to swap their second generation Dodge Ram from gas to diesel. I’m sorry I’m not a video editor, just trying to be helpful. The list of pets needed so far have been:
-All coolers(radiator with shroud, trans, AC condenser)
-Intercooler with all mounting hardware
-core support (or modify yourself as shown in video)
-PDC(power distribution center) with all connected wiring
-exhaust
-fuel lines and sending unit in tank
-instrument cluster
-vacuum lines (see video)
-second battery tray
-hydroboost
-power steering lines
-Throttle cable
-transmission converter, pump, valve body, & TV cable
Added after video was made:
-AC lines
-Transmission pump
-fuel inlet spout (larger on diesel)
**I DIDN’T MENTION IT IN THE VIDEO BUT IT HAS BEEN BROUGHT TO MY ATTENTION THAT THE TRANSMISSION PUMP IS ALSO DIFFERENT BECAUSE OF THE RPM DIFFERENCE IN A GAS AND DIESEL ENGINE.**

Why did you need to swap the Harness that has the Body Wiring...? (Lights and all) Mine appear to be the the same between same year, one being 02 Ram 2500 V10 and the other an 02 Ram 3500 Cummins.

@@jamesrobinson5801 I’m not certain. Best I can remember is that it was all one harness. It would make sense to not swap it if it’s an option. Where does it disconnect? At the fuse box I assume?

I have a 2001 dodge ram 2500 but it has the 5.9 v8 gas. I do have a 24v Cummins and transmission with everything on it cause came out of a running truck. Do you know what else I would need and roughly how costly? I don’t think it would be much different then the swap your doing

The list in the description is what you will need. I’m sure cost is dependent on where you acquire the parts. I had a whole truck for parts so I’m unsure on the price of them individually.

I was doing some research on this a while ago athough I'm sure you have it figured out by now but looking through Facebook marketplace I figured 5-6 for everything else. It would be easiest to get a wrecked Cummins and pull everything off

Yes, I bolted the V10 OD unit and everything behind it to my original 2wd Cummins trans. 47re

So the wiring harness from the diesel plugs right into the harness in the cab? I am just wondering how to hook up the gauges.

Yes it does. I went from an all manual cab work truck to an extended cab Lariat, and everything works fine.

I’m in Ky. I didn’t have to do a thing. It’s a dodge Ram 2500 as titled. I’m sure that varies by state but here it’s not an issue.

I’m sure it’s similar. Probably easier being a mechanical diesel if you have a parts truck.

On the outside of the firewall on the passenger side? I did, but not sure if it was “needed”.

Everything beyond the OD unit is original to the V10 truck. The video and list in the comments covers everything. If you have any specific or detailed questions, feel free to ask here. Also, let me know how it turns out.

Does the frame need to be reinforced if swapping from gas to diesel on a 2500?

No, it’s the same frame.

@@benstewart4545 this is correct. The 1500 frames are almost the same, leaf spring buckets need to be changed otherwise the same frame. I have a 2500 parts truck to convert a gas 1500 into 2500 diesel, both 2001.

I’m thinking of purchasing and Dodge Ram 2500 but it has a 5.9 hemi can I take that engine out and put a 5.9 Cummins but it’s a ISB model. Do you think it will work

It went great. Took me about 2 weeks to do it on my own but I’ve been driving it for a couple of weeks now and everything is great!

So did you use the diesel complete dash or did you leave the V10 dash in there ?

Everything cab related, besides what I covered in the video is from the V10 truck

The few plugs, throttle cable, and brake booster is all from the diesel. Everything else was plug-n-play.

I’m not 100% sure but I’ve read that the engine mounts are the same. Besides that, I’m not thinking that anything would be different than the V10.

What did you do about the fuel tank?

I changed the sending unit out with the one from the diesel. I installed the drop sump and airdog lift pump.

@@benstewart4545 I need to do the same. Your tank was plastic? I'm going to sump mine. Im going to reuse the gas tanks. Do I keep the original gas sending until in?

Yes, my tank was plastic. I used the diesel sending unit in the tank that was originally gas. I replaced my whole fuel supply system with the airdog but there is still a return line running from the head to the stock sending unit. Just to play it safe I put it all back to how it was on the original diesel truck minus the fuel supply line to the pump.

@@benstewart4545 you said used a diesel sending unit that was gas? Do you mean you used the gas unit with the new diesel set up or purchased one specifically for diesel? sounds like a similar set up. I have dual GAS tanks with a GAS sending unit. I'm running FASS. BASICALLY don't have to change anything but add the straw sump?

@@johnathonjsmith I used: -Plastic fuel tank original to the V10 truck -sending unit from a diesel truck(connected like it was from the factory with fuel lines off of the diesel truck as well) -fuel tank sump kit (required drilling a large hole in the bottom of the tank for supply and return to the airdog) What I did not use: -Gas sending unit -fuel tank from the diesel donor truck Donor truck was RCLB and the project truck was ECSB so the tank was different. I would’ve swapped the whole tank/unit if the tank had the same dimensions.

Will the diff be the same in the front?

Yes. Transfer case, diff, driveshaft are all original to the v10
