My 4.7L Dakota sounded really close to what that 5.9 sounds like before i did the true duals and cat delete. Also those 26s ruined that durango.

Makes me miss when I had my 5.9 muffler delete setup. I was told the lack of back pressure could damage the stock engine; so, I put on the Flowmaster Super 10, single in dual out. Is that true about the back pressure damaging a stock engine, without reinforced lifters, valves, and such?

The 5.9L sounds good for having a cat, the 5.2L really wasn't impressive. Must suck to live in a emissions state, almost everybody around here (Iowa) runs true duals with cat delete.

funny thing is the 4.7 sounds the exact same with a muffler delete and is also very close in torque and horsepower.

Nope sound completely different and has less tq and hp then the 5.9 but probably same or a little more than the 5.2

@@Aqua350Lt1 its not completely different its sounds alike but not the exact same as the 5.9 has a deeper tone. as for the 5.9 being any better, it really isnt, drinks more gas and the 4.7 keeps up with it just fine.

@@sinister5289 yea but the 5.9 reliability far exceeds the 4.7 Amy day of the week. And sure the 5.9 is a Gass guzzler but that's mainly because of the Older injection design really and the older intake manifold. I've seen so many 4.7s never get any where near 200k before the oil passages get clogged up and it seizes.

@@musicrevelation2023 funny you should say that, my 4.7 has 230k+ miles and me and my buddies go out racing almost every weekend and that motor has never blown a head gasket, picked up a misfire, started knocking rods, or anything of the sort. i have kept up with usual maintenance like, tranny fluid changes, diff fluid changes, motor oil changes, and spark plugs, and all is well with the motor. however my cousin had a 5.9 in his 89 d100 (swapped it in with him about 3 years ago) and did the usual maintenance aswell, when we went up to the spot one day nothing was out of the norm and when he took off at about 500 feet out the motor threw a rod (this all happened around christmas last year). i know that sound like a bad comparison but its the only one ive got from in person experience. now it could of been easily a freak mishap or something but since then he's rebuilt it and we've been up there several times since he got it broke in and nothings happened. like i said couldve been a odd mishap.

@@sinister5289 I doubt he got a good 5.9 I bet once it was rebuild with new internals it didn't give any issue, it must've been junk because I've beaten the hell out of one with 287k on it and it still kept going never had an issue except the typical Trans. Every 4.7 I have seen in my area are parked except 1 which has about 175k but it doesn't run to well in terms of compression, but every 4.7 I've seen are seize from the passages being clogged and the people who owned them actually maintained them. Almost every Mopar friend of mine will chose a 5.9 and currently run 5.9s because every 4.7 they have had was junk

I just bought a 2003 Durango 5.9 SLT third row two wheel drive for $340 bucks. It's in decent condition inside and out. It does need trans work done to it but for as cheap as I got it it's worth it

I’ve bought a 2000 Durango 5.9 full time AWD for $500. Best suv ever, even bought a 2001 5.9, $200. (Wanted $600) but I sold my van at the same time for $400 so only put $200 in it lol. Only thing I had to do was an alternator 6 months in

I had a 98 Dakota 5.2 and had got installed a 2 chamber flow master and didn't sound so good.Then I took it and got installed a 2 chamber magnaflo and sounded way better.

Overdrive or 4th gear was known to slip if the transmission got to hot. That was the biggest issue with those transmissions. About 13 years ago I bought a 03 Dakota with the 4.7 V8. It is one of the few vehicles I regret getting rid of.
