It may not look like the Dodge Viper you are used to seeing, but the CAR WIZARD 🧙‍♂️ explains how this 2005 SRT-10 is a truly a Viper - at least underneath.

Thanks for your fantastic service Wizard! The issue with the trans was minor. There is a plastic shift guide in 5th gear. They get overheated when people rest their hand on the shifter while driving down the road. They make a brass replacement which eliminates future issues. Luckily you only have to remove tail shaft housing to repair. Here is the link to my video if anyone wants to hear it run! kzbin.info/www/bejne/m3LHqXZulL-GnZY

Thanks for clarifying Euroasian Bob! Before I noticed your comment, I was thinking to myself, how does someone who very obviously took this great of care of their truck damage the transmission to the point that it needed to be rebuilt in less than 30,000 miles? I thought that it might have been abused and had to have been however after hearing your explanation, it makes sense. I'm glad you're getting the issue fixed and jealous of the new owner, that is one of the most beautiful examples of one of the most special trucks that there is.

Oh this brings back memories! I bought a red 2 door from texas direct auto and flew down to get it. Drove back to NY with the wife and OMG she got terrible back pain and refused to ride in it again, had a feeling this was not going to last long..... had it a few months and averaged 8 mpg in the city, it was great though and did all the truck things with it even took off the useless wing. It had serious presence everywhere I went as it had straight pipes. Only got rid of it after an incident on the NJ turnpike. Was doing 100ish and in the left lane and not much faster than other traffic. Hit a bump and the truck wandered all the way across the highway into the right lane almost wiping out 2 cars was a full pucker experience. Had it checked out and all the ball joints, wheel bearings and everything else suspension and there was noting wrong. Alignment, wheel balance everything was good. We decided it was just bump steer due to the 100 pound wheels and who knows how much unsprung weight plus solid rear axle. Sold it the next week and on the way to the new owner the check engine and abs came on! Able to clear it by pulling the battery cable. New owner was drag racing someone and grenades the clutch weeks later. Still miss it every time I see one and still have the personalize plates on the wall told the dmv I lost them when I canceled the registration. Soooo much happier with the E46 M3 that replaced it. Still have that M3 and probably will never sell it.

Once I get the original wheels off and tires dismounted, I am having the original wheels fully restored. Two or three of the 4 have factory rims on it now , have some minor curb rash, and few of them have a spot here and there where the clear coat is failing. I going to send them off to be fully restored back to new condition. Wizard , Did the exhaust appear aftermarket or stock? Ps. Let me know if you want to shoot a video with my TRX. It was definitely beat on. Aftermarket cold air intake, aftermarket exhaust, pillar pod gauges. Obviously the previous owner ride it hard. Synchros probably worn out.

If you bring it to the drag strip do you have to put sand bags in the bed? I worked at a car auction in 1995 and I drove a Chevy 454SS and the rear tires were very very easy to spin. Kinda like having a 5.0 Mustang with a bed.

Euro Is short cutting on repairs. Needs to have throw out bearing replaced and slave, needs to be rebuilt using stage 2 internals at a min and being it let loose st 29k there is no chance that clutch didn't take abuse as trans did so the clutch should of been replaced. Even if he is to cheap to pay for it ask the customer I'm sure he is willing to pay the 900, plus the extra 4-500 to use stage 2 internals vs factory... I mean he got 50k for this thing and id be willing to bet he paid no more then 30-32 for it. Do it right or just don't do it at all.

Dodge also made a Viper-powered motorcycle called the Tomahawk. It was unique also in that it had a pair of very closely spaced wheels front and rear...sort of a 4-wheel motorcycle. It was only a prototype..

Question please, First,iam not a mechanic on any level, iam just curious,yes the truck looks good as new, miles are great, everything well cared for,SO, what happened with the transmission,in a vehicle that well cared for one would think that the original transmission would be just as good as the rest of the vehicle and not need to be rebuilt, just curious,the seller of the truck is going to pay several thousand dollars for that rebuild, just a thought, maybe the original transmission isn't strong enough to handle that V10 power and torque,i did read many many years ago that Dodge had similar problems with their early Cummins pickup trucks,all that diesel power and torque and the transmission and rear end gave the owners problems, just being curious.

@cardinaloflannagancr8929 Жыл бұрын
Bob added a sticky comment, on it doesn't need rebuilt at all. The issue with the trans was minor. There is a plastic shift guide in 5th gear. They get overheated when people rest their hand on the shifter while driving down the road. They make a brass replacement which eliminates future issues. Luckily you only have to remove tail shaft housing to repair.

My friend who was in a fire as a kid got insurance money and bought v-10 dodge in I think 98’ brand new with his insurance money. It was a 4x4 and he beat the piss out of that. It was wild hearing about him almost killing himself many times. He adventually wrecked it on a guard rail.
