A large percentage of us that are subscribed to these fishing channels don't get a chance to get out on a big body of water. So I really do appreciate all of the pond knowledge that you drop because I can actually learn something to help me be a better angler whenever I do get the opportunity to drive only 45 minutes to hit up Lake Guntersville in a boat one day

i generally agree that you can keep throwing the same things. my thoughts: 1. there's less vegetation so you can throw things like whopper ploppers (vs frogs, texas rigs) more. 2. the bass spend a little more time shallow, near the bank, so focus less on the "deeper" water 3. you can throw moving baits more throughout the day 4. lipless cranks work better than they did in summer b/c the grass isn't so nasty 5. the bass are fattening themselves up so they're more aggressive

During the summer, I've had success catching bass at my local pond here in central Arkansas using plastics on a variety of rigs. After a recent freeze, however, bass don't seem to be biting. My usual plastics no longer work. But after that freeze, I did land a 3 pound largemouth & a 3.6 pound largemouth bass using lipless, "noisy" crankbaits at the pond. Very happy with this, but that was it; no other action.

Thank you Tyler for an extremely helpful vids. When I search "fall transition pond bass locations", this one is the top and only one returned. Hope more professionals can share their experience of ponds fishing. I am a heavy night fisherman walking around local ponds. During summer time, big ones are in shallow locations, sometimes less than 1 foot deep, close the bank feeding on crawfishes and minnows. Texas with 5 inches stick baits or dropshot work pretty well. However, when the cold air (50 to 60F) coming during the night, they all gone. The pond I fish has a center depth of around 20 feet, then a drop off of 10 to 11 feet, then 4 to 8 feet deep wide slope with heavy submerged vegetation. I tried the same technique in summer and can't really get a bit during the transition during the night. So wondering where the fish groups are.

one more thing: in summer and winter, the bass are more likely to be in deeper water, so i like to fish the smaller ponds then b/c in the bigger ponds i can't even present a bait to those deep fish from the bank. but in spring and fall i'll go back to fishing the bigger ponds b/c IMO the fish are more likely to be up near the bank.

Great video. My “home pond” gets deep. It’s about 12 Acres and gets 30 feet deep. I agree with Tyler 100%. I’ve fished this pond for 5+ years. Find the last of the living grass, find the fish. I use deep cranks and lipless year round.

I’m in indiana and I fish at my job in the morning just for fun and yeah they slow down with the cold weather and grass dies off and they bunch up and they don’t eat as much so it’s harder to trigger those bites. Great video for the guys wanting to get better!

I agree Tyler the bass are there and in the same place. But... when the water turns over in ponds. The the thermocline changes in the ponds. There's a lot of scummy debris floating on top from the bottom of the pond. The bass are in a very negative feeding mood till the temperature is more consistent. I really do like your pond fishing vids. You're doing a great job.

Most ponds though that I fish are less than 15 feet deep. They don’t ever have much of a thermocline. And when it does flip if it has it, it will stabilize very quickly

@@TylersReelFishing I went this morning to a small series of ponds. Called fishermen park. Here in Louisville KY. There are 5 ponds there all less than 10ft deep. The water has turned over. There is scum floating on every pond. That wasn't there last week. It has came from the bottom of the ponds.

I agree. Ponds aren't the same as lakes with creek systems. The only transitions in ponds that I've noticed is during the spawn when they move up shallow, and post spawn when they spread back out again.

I was looking at local water temperatures online the other day and it got me thinking so I got a thermometer and went to my favorite pond. Sure enough the water temp was significantly higher than the other fisheries in the area. The sun beats on the pond all day long and it’s considerably shallow. I know that not the case at every pond but still makes for fun fishing these colder NJ fall mornings

I fish ponds and small lakes primarily. In my opinion seasonal changes definitely affect the bass. with that said I'm not entirely sure why. And day-to-day weather seems to be a factor as well. appreciate the video great stuff

My experience as well. My primary fishing spot is a small lake/large pond, very shallow, dirty dirty water. Bank fishing of course. What's working for me in the fall is the same thing that worked for me in the summer. Soft plastics, worked on the bottom. I just move them slower now. They don't get too excited for moving baits around here. The lake I fish doesn't have bass that big though. 14 inches max, and very skinny.

Hey Tyler! Stumbled upon this older video of yours and it's a gem for us pond enthusiasts. As the season transitions (and ironically, cools down) from Nov-Jan in South Florida, I'd love to have you come and explore our ponds. The variety here is incredible. Some are as you've described-shallow with fish lingering by reeds. But the 2-acre pond I live by is an interesting mix. It starts with a 4-5 foot drop directly along the bank, then deepens to a short ledge that is 10-12 feet deep, and then slops to 25 feet in the middle which is the average depth for my pond. There are two deep pits that I discovered using my fish finder that are at 45 and 53 feet respectfully. Throughout the year, fish often gather along the 12-15 foot ledges. I frequently spot suspended schools, but they're tricky to catch unless they're feeding. Our water temperatures vary from 70s in winter to 90s in summer. But the sweet spot for bass? Upper 70s to low 80s. Outside of this range, they're less active. Our Florida seasons are unique: pre-spawn, spawn, and summer. As the waters cool around late October-November, the fish prepare for spawning and are in a pre-spawn feeding mood. December sees a mix of pre-spawn and spawning bass, January to April has all three phases (including post spawn), and May to October is mainly the summer phase. I think you'd find it fascinating! 😉

in the fall i like throwing chatterbaits, lipless cranks, whopper ploppers. if i gotta slow down i like wacky rigs, but once the grass really thins out i like ned rigs and finesse jigs. once the water gets really cold (late fall, winter) i'm gonna throw the jerkbait a lot more than i did last year. oh yeah i also wanna try throwing some big swimbaits this fall too.

Yes it does!,. Man I haven't caught a bass since September and now we midway through Nov and still nothing. I fish on 4 lakes, and they are all more than 15 acres, but they all are in this state of flux where the fish just ain't biting, and I'm throwing frogs, super spook jrs, bbz rats, finesse worms, you name it, they just haven't been biting.

Living in RI it definitely happens! Fish ponds almost everyday, unless going on lake in friends boat. I use a drop shot all season Everytime, I just adjust leader! Our ponds have sand banks, rock piles and most under 8ft deep! Lakes maybe 14ft deep except 2 that I know are deeper. Been seeing transitions in ponds over 30yrs. With the TRANSITION I cast my drop shot into current or small dam and put in rod holder and fish other poles! Most ponds here can only fish 1/3rd of pond. Don't think you should use all pond in opinion. So hard to get a bass in ponds in summer, most people stop fishing.

Tyler, loved how you break this down. I have two small ponds near my home. One is a bowl about 8 feet deep in the center very little vegetation and it has 3 fountain aerators. Around the whole pond, they put small boulders. It was stocked with LM bass bluegill and minnows. It had carp but when they re-did the pond about 2 years ago, they removed all the carp. It has a spillway that runs into a stream. At the other end, the pond is feed by the same stream. I have done well fishing a Jika Rig and small finesse jigs with small Z-Man plastics around the rocks. Never got anything casting out to the center. Second pond has a similar setup a bit bigger and deeper. However, has lily pads. I would thing I should be getting better fish out deep. Any tips to find them?

The pond you started at does have some features. The right side from where you were sitting is a giant grass flat. Maybe 3 feet deep for that whole half of the pond, middle gets about 12ft out near the fountain. Fishing used to be great, have caught many 3s and 4s, since the dropping of the water, the bite has completely shut down. Same baits do work year round there, chatter, spinner, rattle trap and craw/creature baits and worms work all year

What I learned about watching this video is so it all backwards I usually start with my confidence bait (Texas rig) and then when I’m ready to go I switch to something faster but I notice that you circle the whole pond so try something fast to locate them then you make a mental note of places to slow down with a soft plastic also I’ve come to realize that reaction bites like those faster baits typically catch your largest and most alpha fish first then slowing down will catch numbers but usually not size

Thanks for another great outside perspective on something not enough focus on but I got a question while we're on the subject of ponds I fish a fairly large almost lake like pond year round and so my question is on this large pond it has a overabundance of cheese mats like every inch of the bank is covered with about 6-10 ft out of basically just matted mossy cheese what's the best strategy in the fall to get them to bite because they've definitely shifted apatite and being as you got to get out past 10 ft to start with there's not a whole lot of options to fish with how would you go about it to entice the bite I'd love a video on something like this until then thanks for what you do
