It's apparently a very ingrained practice, although yes, it is ultimately a choice. In Knights of the Old republic there is another Wookie exile who has a rater twisted idea about life debts though, he considered it a form of slavery and being a big messed up in the head his solution was to kill both slaves (including his family, to "free" them) and slavers alike. If anyone helped him to where his culture would expect him to owe them a life debt he would hunt down and kill them instead as he considered it a form of slavery and would not consider the bond dissolved by anything short of death, even if the individual tried to make it clear he owed them nothing.

Nope this Wookie doesn’t subscribe to any of the Wookies cultural beliefs. It’s canon that he is an out cast of Wookie culture. It’s highly unlikely he is doing it for a life debt. He’s doing it because he respects Boba as a Bounty hunter and knows when Boba is fully geared up he can go toe to toe with him. That’s why he tried to get him while he was healing in the Bacta. But once they were out side and Boba was suited up. As as soon as Boba said no hard feelings he ran to the nearest pub apparently. Black K is gonna do some damage here. You don’t create a Wookie like this and then just throw him into a sarlac pit and be done with him.

I JUST thought of something even more dangerous then extremely strong, very morally questionable walking carpets with space crossbows that pack enough punch to shoot down small enemy fighters... Maybe take semi sentient creatures like Krayte Dragon or Rancors and arm them with heavy repeating Gattling an other cannon then just sick them on your enemies instead of worrying about morally dubious individuals that'd make it look like you was such a creature's victim at will when you accidentally or deliberately find you have to anger them

A life debt would be because of extreme circumstances, not just 'your gang beat me in a 8 on 1 fight' or 'You didn't kill me when you could have'. Otherwise there would be a lot of unscrupulous people trying to get themselves permanent wookie body guards. You would have to aid the wookie so much that they feel "hey, I'm going to help this person for the rest of their life", and probably feel some affection for them to put themselves in a life debt. Plus Black Krrsantan doesn't seem to follow wookie traditions much, since he got kicked out.

Plot idea: Boba and BK cross paths again. Boba enlists his help to fight the Pikes. The run into Chewbacca who tries to fight them both given that BK is a disgraced Wookie and Boba helped get Han frozen in carbonite. Boba uses his “respect” method to calm Chewie, and they part ways. Han wouldn’t be shown because I doubt Harrison Ford would go for it after Episode 7, and Chewie would just be fan service.

In fairness, Black Krrsantan is loosely based on Hanharr. Both are extremely brutal and almost exclusively killed their targets, both uphold twisted versions of a life debt and are exiled from Kashyyyk. So yes, I do believe he lives by the life debt tradition. However he is unlikely to join Boba for this reason IMO.

I’m a little disappointed with the Book of Boba Fett’s protagonist’s motivation, which is integral for the story. Wanting to be a crime lord because you’re “tired of working for idiots that get me killed” inspired by after living amongst the noble indigenous doesn’t really compute. If anything, Boba would be more motivated to join the Mandalorians to join another tribe.

I just noticed something after watching this. Krsatan is older in Book of Boba fett. I thought the gray hairs where just for style, but no, this is a tired pissed off frustrated wookie. I already saw chapter 4, AMAZING BTW, but yeah. I like to think Krsatan is going to honor the life debt in his own savage way. Like a bizarro version of Han and Chewei.
