I live in the middle of nowhere and there isn’t a game store near me for at least 70 miles. So TTS has been a godsend for keeping the hobby alive for me. I play Marvel: Crisis Protocol on TTS at least once a week. Without it, I definitely would have dropped out of the hobby altogether.

It's definitely not as much fun as playing IRL, but almost all of my friends have now spread out to jobs all over the US. Getting on TTS to play d&d and Warhammer together is one of the few ways that we all still get to hang out outside of holidays. It's definitely not perfect, few things rather are, but it's definitely a godsend.

TTS is a great tool. It allows you to test out list and changes without spending a lot of money and weeks for building and painting them. Especially now with the new codex where you explore a lot. Also, I'm playing BT and had quite a bit of success with it. So yeah reach out if you want to talk more black templar.

I think it's a good addition to the hobby. I don't have a gamestore near where I live and me and the friends I tend to play with all live about 100 kilometers apart, so we manage to meet up and play for real maybe once a month. Especially during the pandemic, TTS gave as the opportunity to play on a regular basis. It's also good for trying out stuff before actually buying it, with pricing being so high. I don't think it's a substitute though, sometimes, moving the models can be a real pain as they get stuck on some pixels, sometimes the model sizes are off and all in all it's just way more fun to play in real life with your own beautiful models while throwing actual dice. Anyway, I don't see how something that you can basically completely ignore can ruin the hobby. I don't think people buy less actual models or play less real life games because of this. Those who have the money, time and the willingness to get into the hobby will do so and will then want to play in real life while those who simply can't afford the hobby won't be more likely to get themselve a real army if TTS didn't exist. Also, I feel you on the Imperial Guard artillery stuff. My buddy plays Guard and although they are not exactly highly ranked metawise, it's a an absolute pain to play against :P

To your point of floating vehicles: there's a little bit of lore about the new grav vehicles like the impulsor where a chaos marine (I think?) lays down flat to avoid getting run over by the tank, but the anti-grav plates underneath crush him to death just by the force of it floating there. So. Maybe don't chuck Qui-gon and Jar Jar down there (maybe Jar Jar).

I bought the skaven verminous host box a few months ago and it's just been a chore painting up 40 clan rats, 40 plague monks, 3 stormfiends, a bombardier and a plague furnace so me and my partner play on TTS occasionally, it's cool because some of the workshop creators have made animated versions of our armies to use in the game. So far it's been really fun but it does feel a little bit "cheaper" than playing in person.

I tend to play against a Tau player who doesn’t think there is any issue with our usual terrain setups. So he tables me about every game in turn 2-3, hoping before long he realizes it’s a terrain issue. I still enjoy getting models out and rolling dice, but it does get a bit annoying when he never has to move broadsides. So imagine multiple units shooting on 4 shots(2shots each) 2+bs, 3+wound(str12) 6d+1 damage -4 ap no cover dev wounds, because you have no where to hide, becomes quite rough after awhile. Lol to this day, I don’t think he’s moved his board sides but 1 time maybe and has shot them each time at full effect 🤣. Not a terrain issue though. Not at all. Losing Morty in my deployment zone on round 1 hasn’t seemed like a red flag either.

I mostly use TTS to play board games, but I've played some Epic Armageddon on TTS. If what you're mostly interested in is the game itself, then TTS is great... but, as suggested in the video, the game itself may not be the main attraction for many people into GW. I do prefer TTS to apps though; there's something about playing a game within a non-automated virtual environment with friends that feels a lot more like playing the game in meatspace than playing an app version of the game, and with GW games that means that you still have to know the rules, you still have to pick up and move models, and you still have to roll dice, and I think that's probably important to enjoying the game. Also, TTS was a lifesaver during the pandemic... it was my main way of staying in contact with friends given that we couldn't have board game nights or go out to board game cafes anymore. There is an ethical question about how TTS allows you to play unlicensed copies of games without any credit to the people who designed those games, which I know some games designers are not happy about... but I've spent enough money on tabletop games that I don't feel bad about it personally.

the impulsor is you look at it from any other angle than the promotional angle it's a hover pick up truck. as per the tabletop and attempting to get a victory, follow the rule of having heavy units on objectives as well as having a guideline for what each unit will do. Also how are we supposed to help you with your army comp without a good battle report

I really like the mixed undead rabble in SBGL. It adds to the power fantasy because the vampires aren't just fast strong undead glitter elves they are also "oops all necromancers" and it is very aristocracy of them to send their undead peasant masses to die in the front lined while they play general from the rear.

I like TTS but im glad its not an official GW thing. One of the main draws of the hobby for me is its a physical thing that gets me away from a computer screen. Also, a face-to-face hobby for people (mainly dudes, let's be honest) to just make free friends that all have the same interest is a nice thing to have. Or if you only play with friends, a good game of 40k is a great reason to hang out on the weekend. Those are the parts of wargaming that are priceless and that TTS doesn't come close to representing. On the other hand, if you wanted to just "get good" at 40k then TTS is the way. You can get an insane amount of reps in and just play over and over and over anytime of the day

It's also motivated me to actually get my models painted and play actual games at some point, because I had a boatload of fun digitally so being able to do that with my own models is going to be a blast.

As someone who lives in South America. My closest GW shop is in another continent. I could order from amazon but converting the currency from $ or £ or € to my local currency makes buying a combat patrol more than half of a montly minimum wage. I feel like I could write an essay on this, I think that the work and the interpersonal negotiation is essential to the life of the game. The computer attempts to extract out the end product of the actual game from the entire structure surrounding the game. I firmly believe that the structure surrounding tabletop gaming, from the painting to the pacing to the direct personal participation is all essential to the game.

I like the concept of being able to have a much wider pool of players so I could play during normal work hours (I work for myself and this time of year slows way down). My only catch is that I started playing 40k specifically so I could do something that wasn't behind a screen and had real-life community engagement, so I've mostly been staying away from TTS 40k. For people that don't have a big warhammer scene (or no warhammer scene) it could be a godsend though.

I view TTS as sort of like I do with Online Virtual Tabletops for games like D&D and Pathfinder. It won't feel the same. But it sure can help with logistics. I've played people I would NEVER get to play with if not for TTS or a VTT. People who live in Finland, the US, Australia, I think Japan at one point too. People that would never be part of my local TTRPG or Wargaming scene. And I think that is its greatest strength in this day and age. As someone who has more friends Online than Offline, that means that if I want I can play with any of my friends. I have one friend in Denmark who is really into One Page Rules and I've been a bit hesitant about it but I might ask him for a game in TTS to test it out at some point because I'm slowly coming around to it.

I’ve been playing video games all my life and only recently got into 40k on the table top and I will say there’s something I feel like i’ve been missing playing digitally, theres a certain permanence to your army, unlike games where once you turn off your computer its gone and forget, while the tabletop feels more real and intriguing, sometimes I just like to go outside with my army and pose them in the grass, it’s quite fun, could just be that i’m a zoomer though and I live in an era where everything digital can be taken away from you with the six letter word banned while you can’t have physical items taken away at the click of a button

One of the things of digital simulations of physical tabletop games (be it TCGs like Magic & Yugioh, or Wargames like Warhammer) I started to note quickly is the physicality. That's (to me) super important. In person, I get to shuffle cards, push toy soldiers and throw dice. all of that are actual actions, they have a FEEL to them and usually make some noise. And with computers, well, they can cut all of that out with their quick thinking rock math. And doing so takes a lot from the gaming experience, leaving it surprisingly bland. That'S why I love that Tabletop simulator basically is a physics based game for that. If you want to do it that way at least. Another potential thing games could do is adding special animations and stuff to it. feels so much cooler than just the most basic VFX to show that interactions did take place and swiftly ove things over the board. On the other hand, physical games a re kidna restricting. there are only so many conditions, Hit Points and weird whacky counters you can keep track of and calculations you have to do can only be so complex. that's where games can shine, allowing for all sorts of small minutia, complicated equations and stuff. Video Games are also great at handling things in real time. TLDR: Physical games get blander when removing the physical stuff, and games should focus on other things instead.

Gotta love that Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter movie. I hear ya about the Vampire Army of only character class minis, seems more appropriate for my concept of vamps but I'm pretty new to Warhammers history of things. But in my deck building days from magic the gathering I never would have put skeletons in my vampire deck. The vampires might have had a few werewolves as pets but they would have been mostly just vampires throughout that build, where as my skeletons often would end up in my zombie Deck or my rat deck. I do find the need to have extra units of chuds in Warhammer to be slightly annoying as it's the only way to secure the chess field and get the points for the win. However concepts like kid hammer and poor Hammer are teaching me that it's more about having fun and less about being a slave to Games workshop's rulesets.

All my friends are busy and we don't have all the time to get together. We used to be able to get together every week, but now we need online tool. (Doesn't help that one of our members moved to another town and our city planers love to pretend gas still cost less than a $1 per litre.🙄) So with online tools like TTS, we'd bearly get any games in.

Okay Jay. I looked at all the comment, only asked two other times but both with no reply. So ill ask it again in hopes to get one for us, we know you're busy and we love the creative juice crack you bring out in us all and we thank you. We just gotta know what size dose that base for the Ghost Ark measure out to? Looks so much better the the one it comes with. Thanks in advance Jay, o7 2

It was great during lock downs, and before that when I was younger and broker. Not the same experience as playing in person on a table though.

TTS is great when you don't have money/people nearby to play with you.

To be fair, even if you’re good with computers it’ll still take you a few days at least to get TTS set up if you want to get proper mods and assets set up. I also think it’s good for people that have trouble getting to stores with playing tables, either because of distance or scheduling. Or both, in my case

For the 150th episode the camera should pan out to reveal it was always filmed in front of a live studio audience all along and it wasn't just a side gag...

I'm glad it exists for those use it to access the game, but it ruins the immersion for me Also a tonne of chill gamers in my friend group became sweaty in my scene through playing other sweatys through COVID

Warhammer is such an expensive hobby as it is. When you want to try new things, or try out a different army, TTS is a huge bonus for being able to try out that all bike squad that you've been thinking would be fun WITHOUT it costing you thousands of dollars

I've used roll20 for tabletop wargames. It allows me to play a ton of different wargames which I wouldn't be able to otherwise. To play a lot of old wargames which are no longer in production. No one really wants to invest all the time and money into little figurines. Only to find out the rules were not as good as you first realize. I do have some physical wargames, but these are ones which I adore and am happy having as a conversation piece more than a functioning wargame. But I still get to play it with people across the globe for the niche wargames with digital medium.
