Mr. Smit with proper training, you can count rounds pretty easily. My father was in the Dutch Air Force and Army, and he was issued an Uzi during his service. Although SIG's quality control isn't the best at times, I agree that its a good compact 9mm Parabellum pistol. I don't hate SIG, its just that they usually aren't innovative nor as caring of their production. But they still innovate quite a bit, they even made a suppressor which is legally a muzzle brake since its basically a tube with baffles to make it considered a muzzle brake but its actually designed to have a more hollow tube go over it so the gasses actually slow down through it.

@John1Brady5 жыл бұрын
Honest and fair review here. That said Arne Boberg designed the XR9S to have the ballistic performance of a 6.5" gun with a 3.5" barrel in a 5" long gun. The rotary locking mechanism, 3.35" barrel, tighter bullet to bore clearance created that effect and Arne posted a number of tests to demonstrate this performance. The rotary locking mechanism takes about a 1/4" of slide travel before unlocking and the bullet has well cleared the barrel by that time. The Boberg grips were designed to provide some cushion to recoil and were thin vs. the Bond grips which are attractive but wide and lack the previous design feature. I have an XR9S and as long as you use correct ammunition and are aware of the proper chambering motion pulling the slide back until it stops... it has been quite reliable.

In regards to the failure to eject / rearward feed malfunction: I can think of two other weapons systems that have a similar issue and that's because they have a rather similar feed mechanism. Now granted they're not pistols however Browning's M2 and M1913 family of machine guns can experience a similar malfunction. With the Browning machine guns the d-linking/feeding arm pulls the cartridge rearward out of the belt, and then drops it down onto the bolt face. If you have a short stroke, such as a squibload, and your gunner can't manage to completely charge the weapon then you end up with a very similar malfunction to the boburg. So, the feeding arm has to first push the spent case off the bolt face prior to being able to drop the new one on there. If machine gun's bolt doesn't move backward far enough or come back with enough force, as the bolt returns forward the un-fed cartridge gets fed right back up into the feed tray and thoroughly jams everything. So while this is the first time I'm hearing of such a malfunction occurring in a pistol, for rearward feeding mechanisms this is not a totally unique issue.

@@bobagonoosh8483 there are a bunch of reason for wanting a pistol that locks back when empty. You can immediately tell that its empty, it reloads quicker, it clears malfunctions better and quicker. But the most important thing for me is that you can get a firearm that locks back back into a fight much quicker when seconds count and that's what you want in a defensive firearm. Scenario, You counter ambush a hijacker and his three goons , now you are still running for cover but you are empty. You grab for a full magazine while dropping the empty. You slide the full mag in and with the thumb you drop the slide and you are back in action.... Oh , wait you can because you slide needs to be racked again to chamber a round ...it did not lock back. In your haste to get back into the fight you short stroke. Now you have yo clear a malfunction. OR...you injure one hand and can't rack the slide....

I have the Bullpup 9 and the P365. They are both great pistols, and I enjoy shooting either. There is something about the Bullpup 9, that as a complete package, you don’t seem to notice the muzzle flip or recoil, when you actually shoot it. It just feels good in the hand. As demonstrated, it does have a long trigger pull, but it is very smooth and you get used to it very quickly. The Sig is a different animal. It is designed to hold the maximum amount of ammo in the smallest package possible. The trigger is pretty good, but not 1911 good, it still has some mush to it. It is very utilitarian, where the Bond Arms has some “class” to it. By the way, if you think the Sig is nice with the standard 10 round magazine, try it with the 12. It fits hands much better, and adds even more control. There is even a 15 round mag for the Sig now, which is great in some situations, but takes away most of the concealment advantages the pistol offers.

To be fair, just like a Seecamp, some ammo will just not work well in them (which is why they have strict lists of acceptable ammo). It's the price that's paid when making a gun as small as it can be.

Dang! You may have sold me on the Sig 365. I had a Kahr that was constantly locking open on a magazine with cartridges in it. My thumb was hitting the slide release. I could shoot with both hands, left thumb holding right thumb, or one-handed lefty. The "fence" around the slide release on my XDs solves that issue.

Watching against the backdrop it seemed the Bond Arms Gun did recoil less. That said the SIG seemed to be best controlled. My Kahr. CW 9 is also quite flippy.

4:31 - I don't know how the technique is on the thumb reloaded Robar, but on the old Sig 210 (Sig NEUHAUSEN) one is the index finger folded around the well and operating the magazine lock with the wrist of the hand holding the pistol locked.

When you need deep carry, Bond Arms Bullpup9 is the smallest 9mm (5.1") but still has a longer barrel (3.35"). It is even smaller than almost all 380 super compacts (LCP 380 is 5.16" long). (Replace the Rosewood grips though to get the maximum width down to 0.93") Over 2000 rounds of cheap range ammo with no malfunctions yet.

"But it's got a longer barrel!" -"Okay, and how much does that affect the gun's effectiveness when it's supposed to be used for personal protection against an attacker who's most likely less than 10 meters away?"

Actually my dude, when you're talking about very short pistol barrels, even a 0.5-inch increase will dramatically improve hollowpoint expansion and give increased velocity. Watch Paul Harrel's video on the subject.

Energy man, it doesn't matter as much with 9mm compared to rifle cartridges due to having rather fast burning powder but a 4 inch barrel can still be quite a difference to a 2 inch barrel in this case for example. Even with hollow or soft points, it can still change their effectiveness at that range a bit.

In some callibers that extra in of barrel makes terrible loads viable.

Enjoyed the comparison of the mini-nines and enjoyed 'meeting' your co-evaluator Joel. If you plan more comparison/evaluation videos in the future, having Joel participate in the process would be delightful. Wish you'd asked Joel to show us his carry gun and tell us the particulars.

I think the biggest takeaway from the high speed footage is that slide velocity just ain't all there is to it.

I think that was a great review. I admit, you clearly showed 2 new issues with the Bond & the Boberg not found in conventional models. However I feel if you're happy going with a unique pistol in the first place, you are likely going to be ok with the odd design specific issue. Once you're aware of the feed issue, you simply consciously commit to continuing to draw the slide to the end when you cycle the action. You're told openly the pistol isn't compatible with all types of ammo, so simply keep a stock of the ammo which works. I will never own one but I'm glad someone is still making such an interesting design. Let's hope the next model has a shorter trigger pull! ;)

Still haven't found a better conceal carry 9mm than the Ruger LC9s Pro with aftermarket tritium night sights. Amazing trigger, recoil is low, great size and very slim makes it easy and comfortable to carry. Has been 100% reliable with every type of ammo that I've tried. It's also very accurate. Easy to operate.

This spring I bought a P365 to replace the PPK .380 as my summer carry pistol (the G27 is my winter carry). The Sig is, to me, more comfortable to shoot than the Walther and having more and more powerful ammo on board is a big bonus. When the weather turns cool I expect that the Sig will remain my preferred, go to concealed carry, pistol.
