Yeah, and some of them are pretty weird. Like when they decided to race the Supra, they ditched the 2J in favour of a 3S-GTE.
@AbrahamArthemius3 жыл бұрын
@@devandrasimanjuntak1646 Some of the reasons are because they're lighter, more fuel efficient, & produces pretty much the same power as the inline-6. To be honest, Toyota's Inline-4 engines has been around the racing scene in quite a lot of stuff compared to the Inline-6 (which is more known in drifting scene), mainly used in GT, Touring, Endurance Race, & Rally. Their current Supra GT500 also uses an Inline-4 turbo alongside their Super Formula cars and both of those things are rocket ships (GT500 isn't called the fastest GT series in the world for nothing after all). The reasoning is due to regulation stuff, but pretty sure Toyota will use an Inline-4 again to power their GT500s given the opportunity.

@@AbrahamArthemius ik this is a late reply to a comment but I think Toyota have already done the inline-4 to their new Supra in GT500 class (correct me if I'm wrong). Anyways, IDK if this is a silly question to ask but do you think doing an inline 4 swaps to a vehicle like the Supra would translate well in Time Attack racing application? (in other words, following that kind of regulation in order to build a full Time Attack machine in unlimited class). Please let me know, I'm just really curious about it especially HKS themselves already did an inline-4 swap from 2jz engine to their Toyota Altezza (aka Lexus IS300) for time attack event and breaking the lap record in Tsukuba Circuit many years ago. Anyways, I'm super interested and obsessed in track/endurance and time attack racing so yeah, please let me know, thanks!!

I'm sorry to say but at 4:04 you called it a 280z and showed a picture of a 280z s30. As it was an s130, it was a 280zx. Vastly different car than the 280z. As an owner of an s130, I couldn't be more honored to own the same model as one of the most legendary cars in existence
@4our6ixkwvmz3 жыл бұрын
What are the differences?
@datsoon92363 жыл бұрын
@@4our6ixkwvmz the 280zx was a completely different chassis with a slightly different engine. The later model 280z's (s30) had the l28e, and so did the 280zx, but the 280zx had a few different changes. I believe it had a different fuel injection system than the 280z (the 240z and 260z both were carbureted). The 280zx had a complete redesign to the interior, a completely different body, different suspension, and a whole lot more features. The 280ZX was now aimed at being more of a luxury Grand tour car. So it had power everything. Power windows, power mirrors, a really nice stereo with tons of features, velvet velor seats with leather siding as an option (mine has them in blue with white siding), power antenna, rear window sprayer/washer, and a brand new thing to Nissan, removable T-Tops as an option coming out in 1980. In 1982 they came out with a Turbo model. A digital display guage cluster came out with this car, and it was really ahead of it's time. This car had a LOT of horsepower for a Japanese car at the time as well. 197hp. The 280zx beat multiple exotic supercars of the time in racing, including the Ferrari 308 I believe. A lot of guys who were used to the s30 did not like the 280zx because it felt softer and it wasn't as raw as the previous generations. Which it was softer, but it was a much much better daily driver and much better for taking on long trips. It still handled amazingly well though, and it was faster. If you put aftermarket suspension on them (I have Tokico racing gas struts on mine), they handle better than an s30 and it brings back what people love about the previous generation. Overall a very different car with different features. And it really just depends on what you prefer. This car was at the point where they were phasing out the Datsun name and changing back to Nissan, so there is a badge on the back that says, "Datsun 280zx by Nissan." This was the last z car in history to go under the Datsun marque. Hope that helps!

Eventually it would just randomly shut off after running perfect, and not want to start until I let it sit 5-10 mins. Sold it and bought a crappy normal car.

I own an SW20 that makes almost 400whp. Love destroying most cars on the road. Especially when a civic or VQ owner thinks my car is slow

Ah yes, my brother. I've got a particular love for them as well. Have owned 4 now, a couple from 85, 86 & 89 and now a 92 SW20. 3SGTE all the way. While I can appreciate the builds guys, & a girl or 2(1 of em has a channel- Sarah n Tuned), I like them more when they keep the Toyota power train. None of the honda-powered stuff for me. So she's in the garage on jstands, waiting for my healing of back/neck spine surgeries. Have all the good stuff for the new engine internals, ecu, suspension, wheels (necked tires), a rebuilt 94 tranny, aftermarket clutch/flywheel combo, upgraded cooling bits & pieces, you name it. Well over the 20k in new and replacement parts. Will need a valve job, an ecu tune, and new paint. That should finish it up. Just gotta get it done before the world's out of gas and all combustion engines are banned...

4:17 That photo of Kumita-san's S130Z is a heavily doctored image of its 1994 speed trial at Yatabe. Actual recorded speed past the banking point was 265.37km/h. Car was running on a Tsukuba circuit setup, therefore the lack in longer gear ratio for a top speed run. The exact Z did not partake in any 1996 speed trial whatsoever. It has never *officially* crossed the 200mph mark. Note that I said "officially" as the car MAY have crossed beyond the point during usual street cruises. This is the same for Yoshida-san's 930, whereby the maximum recorded speed it has ever reached was 302.52 during the 88' speed trial in December. I was hoping to avoid this video until it kept popping onto my recommendeds. This is the exact reason why I stopped watching this channel, pure garbola contents. If you people are so-called "passionate and enthusiastic", you would've put in the extra efforts to do your research, be it hunting actual article scans of magazines from the era.

Xerf Spec, a KZbinr that used to post many Jazz-Fusion compilations, had a whole playlist of Yatabe tracks with a whole bunch of the cars mentioned in this video. It warmed my hearth hearing about the history of the cars I’ve been seeing on the video thumbnails while listening to some good fucking Jazz-Fusion. Unfortunately Xerf’s channel got terminated due to multiple copyright strikes, so all the playlists are gone from KZbin. It was a blast though. Edit: Apparently some of the playlists are still available under other KZbin Channels. Just search ‘Yatabe Track Day Jazz Fusion’ and you’ll find them.

Just for anyone interested, using 2 Ecus for V12s is still commonplace today. Anything with more than 8 cylinders often uses 2 Ecus, a primary and a secondary.

Can Jerry make a vid on counter steering a motorcycle? I’m still trying to grasp the whole idea and science of “push left, turn left. Push right, turn right”. I feel sense Jerry loves motorcycles so much and science so much, he’d enjoy explaining this and my brain can stop hurting.

My favorite fact about the hks zero-r is that there were 10 built and they had their own VIN. For that to be accepted, six had to be crashed. 1 is lost somewhere (i assume it rusted away) 2 are still with hks and the last one belongs to Sultan of brunei (because of course)
