I did that once while going up some stairs, slipped and not only ripped my shin open a bit, slammed my face into a stair, fortunately not hard enough to do particular damage, but could feel a bump above my eyebrow for a while. Should be cautious when on stairs, surprisingly dangerous. But some staircases just look like they're made to kill people. Aesthetics obsessed architects need to do something else.

If you have uncarpeted stairs, install a secure runner. If the stairwell is dark, light it somehow. If you don’t have a railing, for the love of God, get one installed. In design school, we were discouraged from designing those modern steps. Safety is rule #1.

Go to your nearest skateboard shop, get as many sheets of grip tape needed, 1 for every step, stick it down. It will last indoors longer than you will survive. It sticks forever and will work well. I've done it on my stairs, and all over the edge of a yacht I had so the dog could get over the edge and in from the side.

They could say he knew the stairs were dangerous and that he did a whole news segment on bad stairs. It would look very bad in court.. So now he has to fix those stairs... Maybe Inside Edition will pay for the fix. Just one of the perks of using his house in the segment... But if not then that kinda sucks
