Transferring value to something other than food is called a Conditioned Reinforcer. Some people use a clicker, we choose to use the word, YES to let our dogs know they have made a great choice! What do YOU use as your Conditioned Reinforcer? Is it a word? Is it a sound?

Can you use multiple? Or does it take away from the strength of the reinforcer?

Also as the dog improves on the command slowly fade the treat giving reward away, star doing less often, then start only petting and praising the dog, then just the praise and your dog should be basically 100% fine with your commands without food

My pup has been taught commands without the use of food luring and even if I used this method, she absolutely will not sit from the laying down position. I tried food luring recently and she literally walks around following the food that's in front of her nose or jumps up instead of being focused on the food.
Awesome video! I already understood the sequence of saying the command right before the action of luring in order to get the dog to predict the action after it hears the verbal cue. But, I never thought that having the food in front of the dog as you say the verbal cue as a distraction and potentially slowing down the learning process. Thank you for this bit of information, makes total sense! can't wait to put this into practice.

Food is certainly a tough distraction! I think you'll really see your dog speed up their learning when you get your timing sorted out without accidentally distracting. Thanks for watching, Happy Training!

What kind of treats are you using

We’re having some trouble with luring our Australian Shepherd puppy unless he’s ravenously hungry and we’re using super high value treats. When we first got him we were trying to use part of his meals as you guys have suggested here on the channel, but he seems to value sitting on his bottom or lying down more than he values the treat, if we’re trying to get him to follow it. He values tug a good amount, but a lot of times that’s a bit too exciting and our training sessions get derailed. He’s still young (9 weeks) so we’re going to keep trying with some different treats and things, but training has become a bit of a challenge since we can’t really get him to buy into our luring. Any suggestions would be appreciated! Thanks for the amazing channel and all you guys do!

you can try to put the treats on the ground away from your dog so he can follow you. I think that will give your dog enough reason to follow you. Try using his kibble or something that he values more than the super high value treats so that he isn't super aroused. With toys you can practice calmness around them to use for training.

My dog constantly tries to chomp/ big bites on my hand when trying to lure. He's not trying to hurt me but is so over the top in trying to follow the food that he is nipping at my fingers. Any suggestions?

I’m having this problem too! I don’t know if this is just too soon, only a few days in to trying the luring. My dog lunges towards my hands and bites and I don’t know how to get her to stop.

My dog doesn’t lure at all. He will ignore the food or sometimes even look like he wants the food and will lure towards the food, then he changes his mind and ignores it. What do I do with this?

Can someone help me to lure a dog which is used to being in a cage because he really wont come out
@kangeyisgr3at8353 жыл бұрын
hold out a treat that your dog loves towards the entrance of the crate. if your dog won't come out then make an enticing noise and move the treat around. Once that action is reliable, then you can add your release que. mine is "okay" or you can use "free"
