Doggy Disaster

The plaintiff was hired by the defendant to put her dog’s logo and picture on a jacket and shirts. She says the plaintiff was happy with the work, but now refuses to pay for the work, so she’s suing. The defendant thinks the plaintiff did a terrible job. She claims she got a receipt that the money went through, so she doesn’t owe anything else.

And PayPal is normally hooked up to a debit card so the defendant should have proof that the money was taken out. And that text the she said she sent a few days later, I think she typed it on her phone just for the court case, screen shot it and of course intentionally cropped the date out. And she never sent it at any time.

For anyone interested, I'm not sure what jurisdiction this case "takes place" in, but prejudgment interest is between 7-10% in most states, so the plaintiff ended up with an additional $100-150 for interest on this case. The defendant paid double what she would have if she'd just paid when she got the invoice.

This episode brought back some bad memories for me. I had my own graphic design business years ago and I've had a few clients similar this woman -- cheap, manipulative people don't value other people's work and time. My most memorable one was a dentist. I spent many, many hours adding endless pages to her business website, way beyond the original agreement. I was never paid for all those hours. I work in an screen printing and embroidery shop (shirtsmith) there is a huge difference between an embroidered piece and a heat transfer, the approval and quotes should have shown that especially because the embroidered piece is quoted per stitch. The judge was right on everything this round and it was pleasing to watch the deadbeat get called out!!!
