For Christmas, I bought some treat puzzles for my bunny. They're by Piggy Poo and Crew and made in the USA. One has a top press that dispenses down into a flip puzzle. Excited to see her try them since she's so smart. It's great to see the gears turn in their heads while they figure things out.

Thanks to you I discovered the Woof popsicle which is great for my small dog on a diet. I can freeze chicken broth or low calorie food in the silicone tray and have them available quickly. My dog loves food puzzles. I think I have all of the Nina Ottosson ones 😅. That keeps her busy and exhausts her mentally.

That's so awesome! And yessss. Chicken broth in them is such a good hack for a low-calorie filler!

the snoop has also become my dog's emotional support toy at this point as she carries it around after a meal. she's been beating it all summer, fall, and winter and its one toy that stands up really well to her! all the stuffer toys are great for hard chewers as well, another stuffer/fetch brand that's great is chew king stands up to dogs who chew hard! for the teething/chewing toys, another i recommend is betterbone, it's made out of nonplastics (cellulose and vegetable oil) and is a great option for those who want different softness for their dogs/puppies and don't feel comfortable with the microplastics that are shed or eaten (my case). i see a lot of people using nylabones/benebones/betterbones and not replacing them when it's missing a whole chunk so i'm glad you also mentioned that!

One of my absolute favorites is the Kong bone! I use it often for introducing retrieves to dogs who may be shy to put things in their mouth. First they associate it with food by stuffing it then I encourage them to bring it to me if they want a "refill"

Great suggestions and tips! We love the bambone bamboo chews. Our new vet thought one of my dogs was 2 1/2 years younger than she is because her teeth were so clean. Also, my Shih Tzu’s teeth were looking really bad because I couldn’t get her to chew on anything, once I found the bambones in her size and she started chewing them and her teeth got so clean we didn’t have to take her in for a cleaning anymore.

My puppy LOVES the Kong crackle squeeze stick. It's basically a safer alternative to a plastic water bottle that crunches and crackles. She really likes the sound and texture of water bottles, so this is perfect for her

Our favorite kibble toy is the Magic Mushroom. They stopped making the small size (I stocked up on them when I heard that because that is the size we use) but it is my favorite food toy. The mushroom has an adjustable opening for different kibble sizes/different difficulty, it moves erratically, and my favorite thing, my small dog can still pick it up and bring it to me to be filled for breakfast. That way, I don't need to collect it each day or go look for it, I can just ask her to. The large size that is still available would be appropriate for dogs 20 lbs + and even some dogs smaller than that.

Yessss! I love the Magic Mushroom (besides that it's loud) but it's a great toy!

@@DoggyU My dog also doesn't like how loud it is on hard floors or if it hits the wall, so she carefully makes sure it stays on the carpet. If it goes too close to the hard floor or the wall, she carefully picks it up, moves it to the middle of the rug, and then starts playing with it again.

I had no idea about the tennis ball issue. 👍 You’ve made Trip’s life so much better! Twice a day without fail he eats from: a stuffable toy, a snuffle mat, and one of his food puzzles. He has an assortment of each. He SO looks forward to his meals-important for a 14-year-old! A pocket full of treats for useful behaviors and tricks thruout the day-all this = happiness! Thank you, Laura! So many helpful tips here!

Yeah many people don't know about tennis balls. I saw so many shepherds with worn down teeth. The only issue is that if you don't wash your Chuck its, they can also become abrasive. So glad Trip is living his best life with you!

Thanks for another cool and helpful video! Do you find that some types of toys, or some dogs, get more frustration than enrichment out of stuffable toys? At the risk of anthropomorphizing, isn't is possible that some individuals might find having to work for their food with toys such as the wobbler to be quite annoying? Thankfully, my own dog quite enjoys her toys, but I can imagine others might not!

We have a kong, my last dog didnt like toys so we got one as an exeriment and he *loves* it. We are still low on toys, have to slowly build the collection, so right now his kong is doubling as a much loved chew toy even though most people say to take it away. I havent yet progressed to putting liquidy/mushy food in it yet but have tried softened kibble with a peanut butter plug and frozen.

John Denver has grown so fast. I do have a question that I need answered please, I have a conference I will be going to in January and I’m worried my dog won’t be able to sit still in it, first time for her. Joy is three and is so great with all the training I have done with her, but I’ve never had to have her stay quiet for a longtime in a meeting situation. Help I want her to be able to stay calm in this meeting. She is a working type mini Aussie. She does stay quiet when she is out to lunch/dinner with me. Toys that I have used that holdup well are Star brand, also retrieving dog toys for teaching hunting dogs, others she chews up quickly. It doesn’t seem to matter how long the tug rope is she works up to my hands. Toys that I have used with her that hold up are

Try sitting in one place with her at home or go sit in a local coffee shop for a few hours and work with her!! Try to do this as much as possible, and she will start to learn the art of doing nothing. Make sure you bring a chew toy stuffed with her favorite food (something not smelly, though- no sardines lol) that isn’t too loud. No shame in having her stay entertained during the conference if you think that’s what she needs. Also make sure to exercise her beforehand, and bring a comfortable towel/blanket/small pad for her to lay on. This can also give her a boundary so she knows where is ok to be and not, and where she is expected to settle down :]

I taught my SDIT to "circle" on a lunge line, like a horse, to get a bunch of energy out really quickly in a fairly small area without making me tired or sweaty. Basically, I started by teaching him the standard obedience "come around" to walk around me in a circle, on a leash--but I turned with him, and acted really excited and happy while encouraging him to go faster. Eventually he learned to run in a circle around me, on leash, while I turn with him. Then we just built distance by using a longer leash. After circling in one direction, we stop and reverse direction, to make sure he exercises both sides of his body. After about 5 minutes, he's panting and happily tired, ready to sit at my feet for another few hours of classes or desk work. If you can figure out an intense but contained exercise for your dog that will use up spare energy really quickly, then use the 10 minute breaks during your conference to wear out your 3yr old so she will be content to lie down in the long, boring sessions in between. I find the lunge line handy because all I have to do is stand in the middle and turn with my dog while he's running his fastest in a 10' radius circle. If I'm concerned about keeping lawns nice or his paws clean, we will even do this on the pavement of the parking lot. Passers by find it very funny and delightful, and some will comment about their own horse experiences, so it's a way to use up energy that doesn't generate hostility (the way bringing your dog to the hotel gym and putting him on the treadmill can). Good luck and I hope you get some successful training in before your conference!
