'Step Into The Light' is the first single taken from "The Lost Songs: 1978-1981", set for release on 28 August 2020 via Silver Lining Music. Available to pre-order at: smarturl.it/DokkenTheLostSongs
It wasn’t always multi-platinum sales and stadium gigs for Dokken. There was a first-phase and there were early days, and it is those bold first steps to stardom which are celebrated comprehensively on Dokken’s The Lost Songs: 1978-1981 album, out on August 28th 2020 through Silver Lining Music.
Featuring spectacular sleeve art by renowned US artist Tokyo Hiro (Motörhead, Motley Crüe), The Lost Songs: 1978-1981 show the crackle and craft of a hungry young Don Dokken as he embarked upon a journey which started in Southern California and Northern Germany. It is a trek which is testimony to the sheer endeavor and perseverance Don Dokken showed in those few years between 1978 and 1981, starting from when he spent time at a guitar store called Drake’s Music, owned by Drake Levin in Manhattan Beach, California.
A fair selection of the treasure on The Lost Songs: 1978-1981 are from these early European days. “Felony” carries a thuggish fuzz-coated riff think early Van Halen in really greasy embroidered denims while “Day After Day” showed that Don could pen a radio-slaying ballad.
The writing and creation of The Lost Songs: 1978-1981 are further tribute to enduring early days of struggle in both Germany and LA., Don would return to LA for a spell after those brief European gigs, and he worked with Croucier on material, including perhaps the truest view of Dokken’s then-future “Hit and Run”, which incredibly did not end up on the eventual Breaking The Chains release. From the sunbaked SoCal hook of “Step Into The Light” to the furious, fledgling, late-Sunset Strip sound of “Back In The Streets,” The Lost Songs: 1978-1981 shows Don in his unfettered early days of balls-out attitude, qualities doubtless forged in the sheer nature of the adventures undertaken in writing, recording and deciding Europe was the place to keep cutting his teeth.
The Lost Songs: 1979-1981 not only shares that magic with the fans, it gives them the final, vital and undeniably missing (until now) early album in the Dokken collection.
Musicians who appear on The Lost Songs: 1978-1981
Don Dokken - vocals, guitar
Jon Levin - guitar
BJ Zampa - drums
Juan Croucier - bass
Greg Leon - guitar
Gary Holland - drums
Mick Brown - drums
George Lynch -guitar

Same, at least Dokken is active during this crappy year! We've got Solitary finally released, this, and his final studio album all coming out and I'm both happy and pretty sad, this year is the last. He'll still be touring probably, but the new material will be no more...

Step Into The Light" I couldn't see the shadows hiding in your eyes I couldn't see the pain behind the lines I tried to give you love, you pushed me away And now the day is gone, nothin' left to say Our time has gone, the stars are far behind us And all I know, I did my best to love you Can you see the sun is shinin'? Can you feel that my soul is cryin'? That my soul is cryin' Baby, all you need To step into the light Step into the light Feel the warmth that lives inside you Step into the light You can find a way If only I could hold you Maybe I could show you How to step, step into the light If only I could hold you Maybe I could show you How to step, step into the light If only I could hold you Maybe I could show you How to step, step into the light

I just got Dokken's The Lost Songs in the mail earlier today, and so far I really love what I have listened to. I have been a huge massive fan ever since 1987 when I first listened to their song Dream Warriors. I was close to ten years old, and Dokken became one of my favorite bands instantly. In the last five years I have become an even more hardcore fan of theirs than ever before. For many, many years I only had their first four studio albums, all their live albums, and Don Dokken's solo album Up From The Ashes. I did get to listen to the Dysfunctional album when it first came out, but back then I was a teenager and I did not give the album the chance it deserved. In the past five years I have gotten all their other studio albums, and I love them big time. I missed out on them for many years because of my stubbornness. I hate that Don has been having health issues, and that his surgery put him in a worse position than he was before. I respect him big time for staying positive, and that he has been trying really hard to get his health back.

I'm only 2 years older than You. I got into Dokken in 1993-94. Seen the classic lineup during the reunion years(95-98) in local New Jersey clubs. Totally phenomenal. I stayed true to Dokken though no matter who was on guitar. Probably seen them at least 12 times in my life. I agree with everything you said. As for Dysfunctional, I was a fan in 1995 when it was 1st released and today, it's in my top 3 Dokken albums. Would love to hear 1 more studio album from Dokken- preferably the classic lineup. Dokken for Life!! 🤘🤘

Mr Dokken is such a gentleman, met him in 1986 and he signed all my Albums, singles and 12"s and did not rush me! He always had a beautiful, smooth, velvety Voice. He never sang out of his range (the secret Sinatra famously swore by) and it can be said he is the Sinatra of Metal. One just has to listen to the incredible "Just got lucky" "into the fire" or the glorious and Melancholy "Alone again" Stunning vocals and l salute the man on an incredible Career which will go on for decades to come. Dokken, the greatest and possibly one of the earliest of Metal bands in American history. They are an institution and their music is blasted out to the neighbours by me daily! Love Dokken.

Don, your music remains one of my, if not THE de facto, favorite from the Rockin 80s. It's so great to hear your unique voice once again. I saw you walk into the Roxy, several years ago, and take the mic for a song or two with whatever band was onstage. That was amazing for me and I've long-awaited your inevitable return to the mainstream. Who is in your lineup, this time around? God bless brother, in this crazy NewWO time which may finally lead to when Heaven Comes Down.
