Hi! Congrats on your video, it’s great! Could you please recommend me a couple of Dolby atmos enabled speakers to mount on ceiling? I have look at many, but either they are “in ceiling” (which I don’t want to use) or they are designed to be used as on wall height surrounds. Can those on wall angled speaker be installed on ceiling too in order to get the 35-55 degree angle to front and back ceiling position?

+Dukeoden7458 Dude! Awesome! I'm sure it's a blast, I can't wait for my new speakers to come in! Honestly, I didn't think I was going to upgrade my setup either, it just kinda happened. I sold a bunch of studio equipment which gave me enough to buy my receiver and OLED. The Oppo and RP-150Ms are also from that sale. I just ordered RP-140SA for Atmos that I'll be installing on the ceiling. I also got RP-280F and R112SW on the way. I just shot 2 videos that you might want to check out. One has to do with home theater cables and the other, a decoupled for my subwoofer.

Currently eyeing the Sony XBR 900E for the TV but still trying to decide on best mid-level budget AVR either Denon or Yahama or other? I've tried lots of set ups. Right now I'm rocking a 4.1.2. That's right, I took out the center speaker, mainly because I didn't have space for it. And there is always the problem that the center really should be IN the image itself - which is impossible unless you are projecting with an AT screen. But the good old left and right pick up all that center data and you get a phantom center. It works beautifully if you have a small room and only need a small soundstage. Always having to deal with real world situations, there is always some damn window or closet or some crap that really throws a wrench into ideal placement.

Rhett Aquilina Hahahaha! Yeah, it was kinda lame. But for the most part, depending on the movie, that's kinda what happens. I have another video where I speak a bit better about the effect: kzbin.info/www/bejne/gpPVgKKwr7GKo9Um29s to around the 5:07 mark. I did buy the very expensive Blu Ray, Gravity, which has an Atmos track, and that's pretty amazing!! I'll be making a video review about it shortly. I see from your other comment, you got a nice setup! I only have a 5.1.2 Atmos setup, but it does the trick. Looks like you have an extra 2 channels for Atmos with that receiver. Are you going to get Atmos modules or install speakers in the ceiling?

Nice explanation of all this. I had just purchased an Onkyo HT-S5800 for my living room. My living room is smaller and kind of an odd shape so I figured anything more wattage wise would be over kill and man was I correct. I cant turn the receiver over 50% before the loudness becomes unbearable. Some things I would point out is that your graphics didnt account for setups that include 2 sub-woofers.. while pretty uncommon.. still possible. I paired my Onkyo kit with a 60 inch LG 4K television and the Samsung UBD-K8500 4K BluRay player and I have absolutely no complaints although I may upgrade the tv this summer. The upfiring height speakers obviously arent going to produce the best atmospheric sound but it does work. They are an acceptable solution who do not have the ability or means to add ceiling speakers. As far as the decoding the Dolby Atmos sound... you may want to mention the settings that must be enabled on certain devices concerning.. ie bitstream pass through. Also may want to point out that you can set your different devices to decode the audio and that sometimes setup needs to be done within the dvd/blu ray menus themselves to get Atmos working. Not trying to nit pick yoru video because overall it was great, I just see a lot of people with particular problems that come to these videos looking for answers and small tidbits of info are missing that would help.

Ok, so I have a Vizio 55" M series 4k tv and I'm getting a Sony X700 4k Bluray player tomorrow with some 4k Blurays. My question is, will the 4k blurays sound better than 1080p blurays because of Dolby Atmos even if I'm only using my TV's built-in speakers or do I need a full Atmos system to get any improvement? My question is about sound quality, not surround sound ability. I'm a poor Grad student without much extra money so I can't afford a home theater system.

@TechnoDad 7 жыл бұрын
+Kaiser Simien Dolby Atmos is added on top of Dolby TrueHD codec. I'm pretty sure KZbin doesn't have that decoding or pass through of that decoding. To my knowledge, the only way to get Dolby Atmos is to use a 4K UHD Blu Ray player that has Atmos support. I have the Dolby Atmos demo disc files if you want them. I put them on a thumb drive and plug it directly into my Oppo 203, and that player sends the Atmos signal to my receiver, no problem. Email me if you want the demo files!

Hi Techno Dad.. watching your past video on the RP140sa ceiling mount. question for you.. I am getting the LG77C8 TV. I currently have the75Uh8500, Oppo 203 and the sony HT-5000 soundbar which I hate.. Atmos my butt.... LOL.. Anyway, my living room area is kind of like yours, vaulted with beams..My TV is mounted on the wall over the fireplace and floor space is limited so towers are out for me.... I want to get the Klipsch R-25 center and 2 RP140sa to wall mount front facing from F/P to seating area and 2 to wall mount behind and to the side of sitting area. I am also getting the SVS PB-4000 sub woofer..Also getting DenonAVRX2400 ... How do you think that would sound as far as both surround and Atmos? I know the Klipsch website says you can use the RP140sa as surrounds ... you appear to have all the gear already, so thought I would ask your opinion Thanks

my Sony STR DN 1080 Amp supports the use of 2 Atmos Speakers. Is it safe for me to add a further 2 Atmos speakers by "doubling Up" on the Atmos speaker connectors? Basically, I'm hoping I can use 4 ceiling mounted speakers instead of 2.

You got 2 things wrong: 1. Your Denon AVR-X6300H will not support 9.1.2 because front wides were removed from new Denon and Marantz receivers. If you want front wides then you have to stick with 2015 models which end with 200w. 2. Blu-Ray player does not have to have Atmos and DTS:X decoding capability, indeed they don't. You only must be sure that it can bitstream Dolby TrueHD and DTS Master Audio. You can even use older players and still get Atmos and DTS:X. I have connected an A/V Receiver to the PC and getting Atmos and DTS:X just because my Nvidia graphics card outputs TrueHD and Master Audio even though there is no mention about Atmos and DTS:X in its specifications.
@m0LN4r
@m0LN4r 5 жыл бұрын
The Graphic card passes through a bitstream signal with audio information including atmos, it is the receiver which is doing the encoding actually.

I see every where these layouts of speaker placement and there is a problem. I know in a 7.1.4 , front height speaker should be 45-55degree in front of me(ceiling) and rear height should be 125-135 degree but i don't see it any where - should i place my height speakers ( i mean how far away from listening position there is an angle for front and rear but no angle suggestion for side ( should i place it right above my left corner seat or a feet away or close to my side wall above my left surround ? I have a Marantz SR 6013 and 7.1.4 speakers in a room 28(L)x13(W)x8.5(H). This answer can help a lot of people in placing ceiling speakers right

I have a 5.1 setup with the Onkyo TX-NR656 receiver and for my speakers are the Sony Core SS series. The front Towers are SSCS3, the rears SSCS5, center SSCS8, and subwoofer SACS9. I'm currently waiting for Sony to finally release their Atmos speakers for the SS towers. I would like to know your opinion on my setup. I know Sony doesn't really come to mind when talking about home theater, usually it's the home theater in a box which I am not a fan of.
@TechnoDad
@TechnoDad 6 жыл бұрын
Hi! I'm not sure as to how the Sony sounds, but I know this...you're getting WAY better sound than with the TV speakers, soundbar, and HT in a box. If you wanted to switch to other speakers, I would go listen to some other brands. Take a song with you that you've heard thousands of times. Sometimes you'll hear things on a set of speakers that you don't hear on yours...then you're in trouble because now you want to buy more speakers, hahahaha!

Suppose you have a 7.1.4 speaker setup. But you own a bunch of movies that aren't encoded for 7.1.4 maybe only 5.1 Will my receiver only produce sound to the Front Left, Center, Front Right, Sub, Surround Left, and Surround Right? or will it "adjust" those channels? So for example two of my height channels might convert to additional "front left & front right" and "surround left and surround right"?
@TechnoDad

Hi! So there are 'up-mix' features on most of these AVRs that will send a signal to your height channels. From what I can tell, it's mostly background music.

Atmos makes a heck of a difference even in a 7.1 system. Since the audio is position based and not channel based you get a much better translation to your individual speaker setup and placement than in the older audio formats.

With unfortunately only two channel Dolby Atmos. Out outs. Question is can I. Possibly daisy chain two extra Dolby Atmos to the 2 Chanel. Speekers. Bye obviously keeping it within the 8 ohms. Wiring. Would I still get the same as a 4 channel Dolby Atmos. Thanks.

+Jesus Valido Hi! If you're gonna get the floor standing speakers, I would go with the RP440C. I think the RP250C won't keep up with the towers. If you can, I would suggest going with the RP450C as they will match the RP250F a lot better. For AVR, you can go with anything that's in your price range. There are a lot of units on sale right now as manufacturers have released their 2018 lines. Check out Crutchfield for current AVR sales. Also if you want a great deal on Klipsch and are serious about buying, email me and I'll get you in touch with my Klipsch dealer. He will set you up really good! Technodad55@gmail.com

I'm new to the home theater thing. I purchased a used Onkyo TX-NR545 receiver. It is a 7.2 receiver and has wifi and bluetooth, HDR, ARC. I have 4-Polk Audio floor speakers, a Polk Audio center speaker, Polk Audio sub-woofer, and 2-up-firing Atmos speakers sitting on top of 2 floor speakers. I have the 2-Atmos speakers connected to the "height" channel of the receiver. I think this is a "basic" entry-level system and everything seems to work, but I'm not sure I really notice the Atmos effect when watching the beach landing in Private Ryan. That makes me wonder if I have the speakers calibrated correctly. I don't really know what I'm doing with that. I'm not sure what else could be wrong except, due to my living room size (10X14) and furniture setup, I have the rear floor speakers on each side of my reclining loveseat. The Atmos speakers are sitting on top of those (rear) speakers. I'm seeing where people are saying IF you only have two Atmos speakers, they should be in the front. Perhaps I'll change that and see if I notice a difference. One confusing thing that I am reading is, you have to have Dolby Atmos downloaded to your receiver to have be able to have true Dolby Atmos. I don't know if this is true or not? If so, I don't know if it came with my receiver or not? Well, that's my story. I appreciate people like you putting this information out there for us newbies. If you have any suggestions, I'd sure like to hear them. Unfortunately, I'm not in a position financially to purchase anything more up-to-date or better than what I have. Any suggestions would have to involve my existing system.

Hey Techno Dad, awesome video, checked out your other videos, great stuff. keep up the awesome job! quick question, new to the home theater realm, been running on soundbars with two rear surround speaker and sub for many years now, decided to enter this world, and went with Klipsch reference series speakers, two R-820F, one R-34C, and one R-120SW, paired with Denon AVZR S940H receiver with Dolby Atmos support, like you trying to achieve a good 5.1.2 setup, though receiver claims to support 5.2.2, living room has tall ceilings, and can't really mount in ceiling speakers, could do firing up speakers or as you mentioned in this video Elevation speakers, any thoughts or suggestions? firing up Klipsch? or Elevation speakers? which ones? Thanks again for your amazing work in sharing your knowledge and experience.

Thanks @@@TechnoDad , for the response. right on! one last questions on this matter placement? so I have high tall ceilings 131 inches (10.91ft) currently there is 91 inches from the top of my R-820F towers to the ceiling, and I don't have a rear wall behind the seating living room space, so not sure on rear Dolby Atmos speakers location, so how high should I mount the suggested elevation speakers for the front, and lastly what Klipsch speakers do you recommend for the rear surround? can't do towers so speakers that I can put on speaker stands. Thank you! if you email me, I can share my space configuration pictures. I'm in norcal, if your ever up in the area hit me up, can pay for your setup calibration assistances.
