Can you imagine writing a song , then travelling around and having thousands of people literally sing it back word for word at your concerts in different countries all over the world? It’s not something many people will ever experience …. It must be the best feeling ever , that’s why she smiles and seems shocked

Dolly drew the biggest crowds of any musical act at the Glastonbury festival at this time. Over 100,000. She considered the invite to play there a big honor as her music has roots in Scotland, Ireland etc. I read that during her stay at Glastonbury she quietly visited a pub, dressed down and all, but everyone knew it was Dolly. Patrons of the pub had brought their instruments to play which is very normal for Europeans. They begged Dolly to play along. After a pint she relented and jammed with her new found friends. That would be a dream come true to experience something like that in person. Dolly has left her mark around the world.

Anna, I'd say there are many positive things about you. As I already mentioned, your beautiful picture. I love the colour of, and the flowers in, your hair. As well that, what you told us, you are from Poland, but now live in Austria. Polish women are, in my opinion, one of the best in the world. Austria is, in my opinion, one of the most beautiful countries in the world. Also the fact, else you would not have been listening to this song, you like this song, which is a great song, and your love of animals (seen from the videos you have watched/liked on KZbin), tells me that you have a great personality. So I am really sure you are not only beautiful from the outside, but as well are definitely beautiful from the inside. If I would ever be granded with the opportunity of meeting you, or a 100% copy of you, I would never let that opportunity pass by. Not even if I would only be able to say hello. Do not let anyone ever tell you that you are not as well are beautifull from the inside as much as your are beautiful from the outside. I hope you will not only have a wonderful 2017, but that you will live an exceedingly wondrous life.

Gayalert69 Dolly does use miming in certain performances, but this was one where you can tell it was genuine, since it’s quieter & a lot more improvised on the timing. Besides, with Dolly it’s not a case of having lost her voice, it’s simply pragmatic. Woman’s 70, it’s an issue of stamina, not ability.

Country music is in a terrible place right now. It's like Top40 music but with a fake country accent. I'd love if it could get back to the blues roots that it came from, although it's been dying since Taylor Swift and Luke Bryan got into it and started changing what country music was. I feel like real country music lovers would like blues more than actual country now.

I stopped listening to country long ago precisely for the reason you state. Now I listen to Celtic, roots, blues and some of the older Southern Rock artists. Give me a Johnny Cash, Dolly Parton, Crystal Gale or Waylon Jennings any day. Also some of the older artists had sung Gospel or Church Music before starting their careers and they had that knowledge too.

@elliottlelaure9680
@elliottlelaure9680 6 жыл бұрын
I agree it's a great song but I think your comment about this coming before the pop influence is wrong. This song is the epitome of country-pop. It's hardly an authentic country song. Listen to Ray Price, slim Whitman or Loretta Lynn for authentic country music. Jolene is a great song but it is not authentic country music as you suggest.

@Eric Burkheimer Actually, the more likely reason divorce rates went up is because women started working and making their own money so they didn't feel as pressured to stay in marriages for financial/independence reasons. It has nothing to do with people not taking their vows seriously. That said, I do think people (especially women) feel very pressured to marry ASAP and they don't think about if it's the right decision for themselves or not. They end up in relationships that just won't last, but they realize much too late.

She sounds great. Definitely not lip syncing. Guitar has a wireless mic. She does not (never has) wail her songs... so her voice has stayed strong. Sign of a great artist. She's not too old to still perform this great. Dolly...you are THE best! Look at Tina Turner...she's also great and she is in her 70s.
@Sim0n98

From the lack of time delay, and the way her voice was too clean cut, and the way her voice was unaffected when she walked around the stage, and the way you never herd her take a real breath, I'm afraid I have to dissagre. Having said that, 9 to 5 was deffinetly live.
@Muffett53
@Muffett53 10 жыл бұрын
I think it takes a little bit of time for sound to go thru something electronic/wireless. Not just on the stage ..on here as well. I can play instruments and don't need to take in "deep'' breaths.

Simon Gallagher they bypass the vocal fx when shes talking to the audience, and there was a lot of compression and other enhancements on her voice so their would be a big difference between singing and speech.

Those points are vaild but I've come across a video of Parton singing Jolene at a recent gig in Australia and it sounds exactly the same as this. This does not prove she is miming but it certainly suggests it.
@scoobeef
@scoobeef 10 жыл бұрын
Simon Gallagher well it is the same singer, and likely the same sound engineer with fairly strict guidelines for the sound mix. She wont be as strong nowadays and would expect a preset sound mix to compensate which would probably travel with her. I say this with knowledge not just guessing

I read a Rollingstone article regarding this festival and Dolly’s performance. It said she drew in the biggest audience of the festival by far, many more than what one would think over big Rock and Pop acts. The crowd was crazy for her and rightly so. Dolly is a worldwide Superstar and has been for decades.

If people think this is a lip-sync number, Dolly deserves credit for perfect muscle memory because she was not one syllable off from the alleged pre-recorded track. I am not a die-hard fan and I didn‘t deep dive into it but that sounds and looks live to me

Completely agree. Even there's a little sniff (1:34) which completely matches what you see: her breathing quite heavily through nose. AND there are a couple of clicks and artifacts that you would remove from a recording. She's a little out of breath - you hear that too! However I guess one can never be 100% sure that it's 100% live.

Cute story. I read this in a paper after the festival. During dolly partons set a stray dog was found wandering around Glastonbury by some festival goers. She looked like a beautiful white German shepherd and since they found her during Dolly’s set, they named her Dolly. They managed to take care of her throughout the festival then afterwards they took her to a shelter. When it came to adopting her, Dolly Parton herself heard about it and offered to take her in if she couldn’t find a home. But in the end she did find a home. 🙌🥰
