What a class act, to write a song full of compliments to someone trying to steal her husband. The absolute queen of country music.

I don’t think it’s full of compliments. I see it as one woman recognizing that’s she’s been beat. She’s recognizing that she is the “lesser” woman (because Jolene is so beautiful and desirable) and begging her to choose someone else. It would be like Halle Berry showing my man attention. In real life, I know my man would be loyal to me. But I’d still be nervous.

This song is ulterly touching. She chooses to open her heart and feelinga to the woman who wants to steal her man. With super class she makes Jolene realizes there is no purpose on stealing a man from someone Who really loves him just to win some stupid seduction game. This song is powerfull.

@@davidkropodra i hate when people go like “ugh nowadays music isn’t the same as it used to be before, modern singers can’t sing at all 😫😡😤” what kind of music are you even listening to.. Of course there are actually some bad singers out there, but there were bad singers 20, 30, 40 years ago too. For example, have you ever heard that one of the supposedly “terrible” singers, Ariana Grande sang an entire verse in the *whistle register*. This is something that VERY few people can do and I doubt Dolly could have done that.
@yrldarb5625
@yrldarb5625 2 жыл бұрын
@@icevee686 obviously there were bad singers back then just like now but now more people are using auto tune, there are going to be people that can sing better than Dolly Parton AND Ariana grande. For you to compare them is idiotic yes Ariana can sing more higher notes but they have COMPLETELY different singing styles. Nobody has ever said Ariana has a bad voice. I’m glad this was dollys raw voice instead of autotune seeing her flaws is more realistic and nowadays people would autotune it up, that’s why there saying no good singers today because everybody autotunes. There incredible singers back then such as now but no need to compare.

@@icevee686 I bet you couldn’t do Ariana high notes either so for you to say that is out of pure spite, yes dolly has flaws just like any of us thats what people want more of not an autotune mess. I was 4 when it came out. I made my brothers sick with this song I played it so much, and I can't tell you how many people have sang this song to me. I should be receiving royalties. I have the flaming locks of auburn hair, though it's turned more of a reddish brown with age, and my eyes are blue, not green. There's a little story that goes along with this song as it relates to my name, but I'll save it. Oh, and I wish everyone would stop misspelling my name. It's "een" not "ene".

I love how Dolly praises Jolene, like if a man wrote that part of the song it would perfectly be a love song. "Your beauty is beyond compare With flaming locks of auburn hair With ivory skin and eyes of emerald green Your smile is like a breath of spring Your skin is soft like summer rain And I can not compete with you, Jolene" You can see the values of that time, those that would change some time in the future, in which they tell how beauty isn't everything but back then it was very much so and she envied Jolene for it. Dolly herself would challenge these values; she's such a gem

Yep, 22 when Jolene came into her life. That was in 1968. Just about the time she was on the Porter Wagoner show..... So lets assume Jolene was around the same age, she may well have been at the bank when this came out. Hope Dolly still had her account there by this time. Jolene probably had to go back to school to learn how to count that high........ I bet she felt like a total dumbass in the late 80s. She basically handed Dolly about 6 million dollars, and still counting.

Lisa Mona: I don't like modern "country" either. For you to gain context, I suggest you Google hpr.org. Select HPR1 to listen at really old country music, and then select HPR2 to listen to country music popular between the really old and sometime in the 1990s. The time periods are spelled out somewhere, but I have forgotten what they are. The artist names and song titles appear as the music plays, so you will know what you are hearing, even though there is no verbal commentary by DJs (although right now there is some appeal for operating funds, which they do only twice a year.) I am a Bluegrass fan, so I listen to HPR4. HPR3 plays Christmas music, and only during the Christmas season. I'm glad you are here instead of there. Oh, by the way, I think you should play my video at kzbin.info/www/bejne/q6HNZoZnep2kgNk Also, you can Google sidscardshop at any time to bring up a list of my 290 videos, and I think if you click on my camera icon above it will take you to my channel - not sure, since what I see and the rest of the world sees regarding my account is different. I just reached 101,000 subscribers, and would be grateful to have you as well. God bless you.

I obviously don’t know her personally, but she just seems like a genuinely nice and caring person, which is difficult to do when you have been in the public eye for as long as she has. Like she’s fought to be who she is and genuinely wants others to be who they are as well. She doesn’t want her light to outshine other people, and I think that’s one of the many things that makes her so appealing.

Dolly is one of those celebrities that are timeless and a real role model for other's to look up to. there are a few female celebrities that I could be insulted by and I would simply reply '' aww your sweet'' Dolly Parton, Whoopi Goldberg, Wendy Williams, Sandra Bullock, Tina Turner are the only celebs that I would be proud to be insulted by.

@@littleangel6203 I don't know if you still need this, but she basically said that the song "Jolene" is based on a true story. She was a red headed woman, who worked in a bank in Nashville, that tried to take Dolly's husband. Dolly obviously fought her and managed to keep her husband (but she also beat the tar out of him ahahaha). Then she made a comment about a woman sitting in the crowd who looked a lot like Jolene and the song started. Hope you find this helpful.

Now, this is a true story for those of you who don‘t know, I wrote this song about 20 years ago about this woman down in Nashville who worked at the bank. She was trying to take care of my husband while I was out on the road. Well, that didn‘t go over too big with me, I fought that red-headed woman like a wildcat. She jerked my wig off and almost beat me to death with it, haha. But I kept my husband, I got that sucker home and I beat the tar out of him. We got a whole bunch of red-headed women down here, matter of fact Jolene looked a whole lot like you, you red-headed hussy. Oh, so here we go with the pitiful story of Jolene.”

The back story to this song is actually a lot more wholesome than most would think! Dolly was signing autographs and she ended up signing one for a little girl named Jolene. Dolly loved the name and made sure to let the little girl know, Dolly talked about how she kept repeating the little girl's name in her head until she got back to the tour bus and that's how the chorus came about. (She explained this in an interview I recently saw)

She sure is. Hes a very private person. You go to DOLLYWOOD hes sometimes spotted by Dolly fans who have only heard about him or seen the one photo from the 1970s of him online. DOLLYWOOD and theirs a strange guy clearly not security hanging around Dolly. People talk to her he backs up head down. Someones trying to stay unseen but people notice. Someone says to Dolly whos your boyfriend. People look shocked. Dolly laughs. Hes not my boyfriend. Hes my husband. Mystery revealled. I was theree to see it. . He's a quiet man soft spoken. He clearly loves Dolly so much. But hes also very private. And fan attention isnt his thing but he loves and supports fans as Dolly does.

Dolly's vocals are addictive and the fact it's a true story makes the art of story-telling through song all the more intriguing and authentic.
