So well put - I fumbled with words trying to say this, but it never came out right - you said it perfectly. Thank you!
@RochelletheRealtor4 жыл бұрын
I don’t think it’s full of compliments. I see it as one woman recognizing that’s she’s been beat. She’s recognizing that she is the “lesser” woman (because Jolene is so beautiful and desirable) and begging her to choose someone else. It would be like Halle Berry showing my man attention. In real life, I know my man would be loyal to me. But I’d still be nervous.

This song is ulterly touching. She chooses to open her heart and feelinga to the woman who wants to steal her man. With super class she makes Jolene realizes there is no purpose on stealing a man from someone Who really loves him just to win some stupid seduction game. This song is powerfull.

Of course there are actually some bad singers out there, but there were bad singers 20, 30, 40 years ago too. For example, have you ever heard that one of the supposedly “terrible” singers, Ariana Grande sang an entire verse in the *whistle register*. This is something that VERY few people can do and I doubt Dolly could have done that.

@@icevee686 obviously there were bad singers back then just like now but now more people are using auto tune, there are going to be people that can sing better than Dolly Parton AND Ariana grande. For you to compare them is idiotic yes Ariana can sing more higher notes but they have COMPLETELY different singing styles. Nobody has ever said Ariana has a bad voice. I’m glad this was dollys raw voice instead of autotune seeing her flaws is more realistic and nowadays people would autotune it up, that’s why there saying no good singers today because everybody autotunes. "Your beauty is beyond compare With flaming locks of auburn hair With ivory skin and eyes of emerald green Your smile is like a breath of spring Your skin is soft like summer rain And I can not compete with you, Jolene" You can see the values of that time, those that would change some time in the future, in which they tell how beauty isn't everything but back then it was very much so and she envied Jolene for it. Dolly herself would challenge these values; she's such a gem

Since than, I love everything Dolly Parton, and don’t care much for modern country music. Dolly is an icon! There is such a heartfelt and pure quality to her songs. No one is like her.
@SidsCardShop Жыл бұрын
Lisa Mona: I don't like modern "country" either. For you to gain context, I suggest you Google hpr.org. Select HPR1 to listen at really old country music, and then select HPR2 to listen to country music popular between the really old and sometime in the 1990s. The time periods are spelled out somewhere, but I have forgotten what they are. The artist names and song titles appear as the music plays, so you will know what you are hearing, even though there is no verbal commentary by DJs (although right now there is some appeal for operating funds, which they do only twice a year.) I am a Bluegrass fan, so I listen to HPR4. HPR3 plays Christmas music, and only during the Christmas season. I'm glad you are here instead of there. Oh, by the way, I think you should play my video at kzbin.info/www/bejne/q6HNZoZnep2kgNk Also, you can Google sidscardshop at any time to bring up a list of my 290 videos, and I think if you click on my camera icon above it will take you to my channel - not sure, since what I see and the rest of the world sees regarding my account is different. I obviously don’t know her personally, but she just seems like a genuinely nice and caring person, which is difficult to do when you have been in the public eye for as long as she has. She doesn’t want her light to outshine other people, and I think that’s one of the many things that makes her so appealing.

I love this song especially this version because it's pure 1980s Country, my favorite. The music alone is so well written, beautiful, and captivating. Dolly's vocals are addictive and the fact it's a true story makes the art of story-telling through song all the more intriguing and authentic. Hats and roses to Dolly for always being so beautiful inside & out as well as graceful.
