While I was in an abusive relationship, I called the domestic violence hotline, and found total incompetence, and zero help. It was shocking to me that was reality, absolute ineptitude from a person who had NO clue how to help. Supervisors, and program managers and people on the board of directors should be testing the effectiveness of their own system all the time, and the calls should be recorded and reviewed. Having volunteers is NO excuse for a horribly run emergency system for people who desperately need competent staff to talk to.

@@GrandmaMouse1960 I was married to a malignant narcissist for 23 years and it nearly destroyed me. He’s a highly respected 7 figure a year professional. People who meet him think he’s a great guy. People admire him and aspire to be like him. He’s very skilled at keeping his true nature hidden. But he was best at gaslighting and manipulation. I know there have been movies about an abusive husband who convinces everyone that his wife is crazy while he plays the role of the caring husband. He gaslights everyone to the point he’s able to have her committed involuntarily and she has to fight to prove that he’s actually the crazy one, etc. That guy is my husband. Not literally, as in having me committed, but he’s that type of guy who is cunning and calculated and feels no guilt or shame when he blatantly lies and manipulates. By the time I left him, I felt abjectly worthless. Really, truly worthless. It’s the such a lonely and hopeless feeling and before I left I no longer cared if I woke up each morning or if I died in my sleep. I just couldn’t gaf about it. He’d successfully whittled down any confidence or independence I ever had to almost nothing. Then when I finally got the strength to leave, he did everything in his power to turn everyone against me and to leave me destitute. He didn’t succeed but not for lack of trying. I fought hard. Every day away from him was another step towards learning to be me again. Before I even left I found a therapist. I’d never had any kind of therapy but my primary concern was my kids and I went initially because I thought it might help me better navigate the divorce to cause them as little damage as possible. My feelings of worthlessness and uselessness were of concern too. I didn’t know if it would help any but figured it couldn’t hurt. I’m so glad that I did. Just having an educated neutral person to speak to about everything my ex had been doing to me was a massive weight off my shoulders. I had friends I vented to, of course, but having a professional validate that the things I described were definitely emotional abuse was like the sunny coming out on a rainy day. Sorry for the long post. I really just wanted to suggest that if your son isn’t in therapy or hasn’t considered it, I very much recommend it. People like our exes do damage to us in ways that we don’t even see sometimes. That damage doesn’t always heal with time and distance. I’ve been divorced for 6 years and I just married my current husband a few months ago. I know without a doubt that if I hadn’t dealt with what happened to me, I would’ve brought some of that baggage to my new marriage. I sincerely wish your son continued healing! Those of us have experienced this type of abuse know how deeply the scars go. It’s not easy but he got away from her, that’s the most important part.

I am so sorry Tony . My husband was abused by his ex wife. She was always threatening suicide. She called him bad name every word for homosexuality you can think of. She pushed and pushed. He broke every dish in the house. She met someone online. Married him that lasted 5 years. I have been married to him since 2017. I have built him up again. Given him freedom to be himself. He was such an introvert. I coaxed him out of his shell. I am a happy extrovert. We laugh a lot. It’s joy to have a good person. I wish him the best.

I am so glad more men are coming forward with their stories. I love that this interview is giving advice on how to get out safely. It is very difficult to do. Moving out of state and NOT telling anyone where you moved to is the best way. It is difficult, but those abusers are very convincing to family members who will give your location away - unbeknownst to them.

When he said she'd name call him and keep him up all night doing it.. That hit home too. Abusers often deprive people of sleep as part of their psychological abuse. Speaking from experience here.. The person that did this to me used to come in the room I slept in at any/ all hours of the night to start his onslaught of verbal assaults. He would also constantly accuse me of cheating and has threatened to kill me a couple times. The anxiety it caused me when he'd do these things.. was so overwhelmingly bad. I have ptsd and have to deal w him still because we have a child together. And just like this poor guy being afraid to call police because she said she'd lie to them.. that's what happened to me; I finally looked in his phone and just like I already knew- he was talking to other ppl. When I confronted him about it we started arguing and then he called the police on me and lied to them, and I ended up being the one to go to jail because they believed him. It was so devastating.. Just insane.. hearing the one cop say "we take domestic violence very serious here" especially because he had just threatened to kill me the day before but instead of calling the police I called my dad- I was too afraid to call 911. Edit: this sort of abusive behavior didn't Really get revved up until After I had our baby and we finally got our own place (were living w family before). Once I'd given him what he wanted (a second chance to be a dad) and once we got away from family things started getting worse and worse.. its not as if these ppl are abusive like that from the start. Like this guy, his "wife" didn't get Really awful until After they were married. My heart goes out to this man. ❤ 😢

I have (Diagnosed) PTSD, anxiety and depression from the years of mental and physical abuse that I, my 3 siblings, and my mother endured, from my father. But…. He was a victim of his parents and the war and booze. Our life was miserable and unproductive and it has been an uphill battle to survive. But I will not give in as that makes his parents (who also mentally abused me) the winners. But in fairness they came from an era where care of children was not a priority. They knew no better. Life is complicated hard and a battle to the end for most of us. I have things to be grateful for…we were not sexually abused by anyone.

It's important for victims to take responsibility for their lack of discernment and to heal. Otherwise they repeat the same mistakes. Tony had two prior failed marriages. The problem was not that Tony was "too nice." The problem was that he didn't have the self esteem to set proper boundaries. It's obvious that he never tried therapy or other modalities to heal. With the help of a therapist after his 2 divorcs, he would have known better than to let Tracy moved in after just 3 weeks. To marry in 6 months was also unhealthy. Tony needs more self awareness. I definitely think he's a victim, but he also needs to take responsibility for his healing.

There is so much that's fucked up about this, but the fact that he had the capacity to knock her out at any given moment and never did must be the reason she called him "weak". I suspect she was trying to provoke him to violence so she could then play victim. I have so much respect for this man! I wish he had left before 6 years of abuse and psychological damage had become a part of who he is, but he certainly showed his strength, honor and integrity by not responding in kind. That is something I was unable to do when in a similar situation.

He did start drinking to deal with the abuse but he was still a good man. After he committed suicide, she started abusing us more. We ended up in foster care which I was thankful for. EXACTLY. They’re at the start of seeing what you’ll tolerate. I’ve got what I refer to as my first husband my “practice” husband. lol practice referred to the lesson for what NOT to do. Oh he had a temper, and had a mouth on him BEFORE I married him. That said, NEVER was that directed at me. Never was it about me. That started immediately after I married him. I married in Church, in front of a few hundred people. There’s no divorce in my family. He thought I’d never divorce him. I left within a year. Nope. No BS sorries, no amount of excuses or “apology” gifts. I left. I filed for divorce and annulment. The first thing he said was “You said you’d never leave”. My answer? “You are a fraud”. He went on to marry a girl a decade younger than him, uneducated and from an abusive home. He got what he wanted. Someone to control. Sad.

People do not understand how horrific a malignant and/or covert narcissistic personality can be.. They isolate, triangulate, blame, accuse and play the victim . In their minds it is everyone else who is at fault. Narcissistic personalities find the rescuers /co dependents and intitially love bomb them , after securing the person in their clutches the manipulation , demoralization and games begin. They become the source of supply (attention) for their sense of self ..bc they don’t have a foundation or a sense of self.

My experience has been it's very hard to accept that I am a victim,I don't really like that label but the more I see and hear the account of others the more I have come to understand that I am indeed in an abusive marriage and it is not my fault. Looking back now I understand that I became the family scapegoat and the place where everyone else could take out their violence, hatred and sexual fantasies. I’m deeply relieved to hear this fellow has a friend and that he managed to break free from his tormentor.

Tony well done for pursuing her abuse in court and speaking about it...speaking about what Tracey put you through will help you but it will also help other men to come forward as well...I'm glad she got sent to prison but it wasn't long enough and I hope she remains single for the rest of her life as well because she will do this again I'm sure...very informative video and extremely sad thankyou though for sharing...from me in Melbourne Australia 🇦🇺

Happened to me. I put up with it for 20 years, then I came home to see her physically abusing our 7 year old son. That made me leave. 6 years later she attacked her live in boyfriend who strangled her. My boy was 13. He barely remembers his mom. I'm thankful that the last time we saw her she was clean and living in a group home. That's where she met her murderer. I am still so conflicted as I know that she instigated the fight. . . I just don't know, I feel different on days.. I've been in therapy for severe PTSD ever since, going on 30 years now. My religion did not allow for divorce. I still feel shame though I know I shouldn't. I keep it a well guarded secret. Why did it take 20 years to leave ? Even after she shot at me I stayed. Since then I've become a very dominate person. I won't allow being intimidated. When it happens , and it does, I'm instantly triggered, ready and eager to take it all the way on the spot . . .all the way. Done some bad things to assholes. Very bad space to be in every day. Terrible survivors guilt, I was not there to save her that time. I had to choose, I chose to save my son.

A man I knew very well was a victim of his wife’s abuse. Always covered in bruises, scratches. The very bad injuries he would say he fell down the basement stairs. He remained with her until she passed. He missed her terribly despite the abuse. I never understood that kind of love.

My uncle Jim was like this with my aunt Blanche. She was a whole beech but he loved her and stayed. We joked she would pass and he'd get a few years of peace before death.... they died within 24 hours of each other. Trauma responses mixed with "love" be crazy a.f.

These abusive people boggle my mind. If their spouse is so horrible, then why stay with them? Everyone ask the victim why they don't just leave. No, why don't these abusers leave if they hate their mate so much? Weak, cowards. Hurting the people who love them, unconditionally.

Victims are groomed. you end up believing everything that is said to you. Also, leaving is the most dangerous time. Many abused people are killed in the time after leaving. Often with their children.

It’s like a fly in a spider web - being targeted move by move - up then down, up then down. They systematically break you down. Your soul and personhood gets smaller and smaller. They break your spirit, steel your money and do a smear campaign to destroy your relationships. The courts, lawyers and people like you side with the charming covert bully and when you leave you are left a broken bag lady. They have bled you dry and they leave you out to hang. Evil.

Tony, you are a nice man and you never deserved such a horrible woman. I endured verbal abuse, but not that severe. It leaves one feeling hopeless, depressed snd trapped! I'm so sorry Tony. You seem like such a nice man. I just lost my son that died in his sleep. He was stressed out from his narcissistic ex wife. It wasn't all her fault, and he was just starting to come out of it slowly and ready to kick her to the curb. Please stay strong and get some counseling. You will overcome this. Epilepsy does not matter, nor your education to a good woman. She will love you for what you are. Take care💙
