A few weeks ago my father in law fell victim to this scam. He was browsing on the Internet and suddenly received a warning on his screen telling him he had a virus and to call an 800 number immediately. Don't fall for this scam!

One time a lady called me with the same bullshit about my computer and how she's calling from Microsoft, I told her "Microsoft doesn't call people" She said "Ok, hold one second" And she hung up, Again it was an Indian person. Another time man called with the same crap and I told him that I was happy that he called me again so that Interpol can properly trace where he's calling from so they know who to arrest. I never heard from him again. When you call them on their bullshit they quickly fall back.

Christ, I hate network news show features. They waste so much time telling you so little information. Things they could have told you: The pop-up (usually) locks your browser, and disables your ability to close or switch from the browser tab where it occurs. They also could explain how it is this takes over your browser page seemingly at random when you're navigating to a page that is not the source of the problem -- ie, where does this come from? They could explain that Microsoft and Apple NEVER communicate with their customers in this fashion. They could at least hint at the role played by anti-virus and anti-malware programs to protect you. When it happens to me (Windows), I go to the task manager, and start killing processes associated with the browser, one-by-one, until the infected tab is closed. Then I don't have to go through a reboot.
@lithiumwyvern_7 жыл бұрын

We should make sure kids are educated on internet scammers right when we know they have started using the internet. I remember when I was a kid, kids were taught about cyberbullying, and about how to stay safe on the internet, but I don't remember ever being taught about internet scammers. If I had been taught about internet scammers, not only would I have known how to avoid them, but I would have wanted to educate others, so they would know about this stuff too.

So you filled up your 5:21 minutes with blather without telling people what to do when one of those pop-ups occur. Thanks for NOTHING! SO I WILL TELL YOU WHAT TO DO: IMMEDIATELY SHUT OFF YOUR COMPUTER FROM THE POWER SWITCH, not the computer shut down, that is too slow. Shutting down from the POWER SWITCH breaks your internet connection immediately and prevents the virus from actually downloading. Then restart your computer in safe mode, hopefully it will NOT have actually infected your computer. From SAFE MODE: Run any antivirus program you have, or Malwarebytes, or Adaware, or CCLeaner just to be certain your computer is not infected. And as always, don't fall for these scams.

If you fall for this you deserve to be scammed. Basic internet knowledge. I think in schools kids should be taught about this stuff in depth. Its better to be paranoid about everything on the internet than be too lenient. People underestimate the power of having internet access. A few keystrokes and you can land yourself in the shitter. I learnt that a lot of stuff is barely legit. If any of this stuff pops up for you, a word of advice is to do some troubleshooting, try closing the page, then go on to ALT+F4, move on to CTRL+ALT+DELETE to access your task manager, crash your web browser through that, if none of this works which is very unlikely just turn off your computer.

No offense to the girl at the start, but who just gives your login information or password to a person who you don’t even have proof is actually working for Microsoft/Apple. My Lenvo laptop had the exact same message. I’m not gonna lie it caught me off guard, but I didn’t immediately call the number the pop up told me to call. I went to my files and looked for any malicious files and I deleted the sketchy ones. I reseted my laptop and the pop ups stopped. I even took a step further and used my northern security to check my laptop and clean out any viruses. It’s not that hard to tell a virus over a real message. But I do understand if they’re old and don’t really understand how viruses work. But other than that there shouldn’t be any other reason you can fall for this trick.

where was this video when I needed. They tried to convinced me that my Mac had a virus. My dumb ass actually thought hackers were going to steel my info. I told my dad what was happening and he told me to hang up and not listen what they were saying, but I didn't listen and kept asking the guy to show me how hackers suppostly got my info. After being in the phone with the guy, I started to get suspicious and started asking him, how this was happening. My dad got pissed that I didn't end up the call and grabbed my phone started yelling at the guy and told him he supposedly called the police lol and that they were going to catch his ass for trying to scam our family. I am so happy my dad did that because my dumb ass actually thought I had a virus.

Wait, so macs are NOT immune to viruses like Apple thinks
@lithiumwyvern_7 жыл бұрын
Ryan Toomey Due to how Unix-likes and, more specifically, OS X works, Macs get barely any viruses... in the literal sense of the term (malicious code that attaches to executables and spreads, like good old CIH). However, they do get a lot of malware - just not as much as Windows does, only because they're far less popular. Trojans, worms, spyware/adware? All of that is there. And OS X is not low on the current big malware genre, ransomware. Even a well-known BitTorrent client for OS X, Transmission, got hijacked and combined with the KeRanger ransomware once!
@jonothan90737 жыл бұрын
Ryan Toomey they only reasons why Max's are less likely to get viruses is because they lock a lot of accessibility features unlike windows
@JustGlitch6 жыл бұрын
Maciej Mućka I mean there is a bunch of java rats, works on Mac, Windows, Linux, etc Password Recovery, Remote Desktop, whole shit ton of shit
@lithiumwyvern_6 жыл бұрын
+JustGlach Also, the main reason why Linux users tend to get less malware is because Linux users are tech-savvier on average and know better than to run random binaries or add random private repositories from the Internet. Also, they don't run around logged in as root, unlike what the average Windows setup looks like. One simple way to secure a Windows PC is to make a separate password-protected admin account and log in through a non-admin account, so launching elevated programs works like su. However, Linux is the prime target for server-focused malware, as it runs the vast majority of the world's web servers.

On my iPad mini five, I had one of these scam pop-ups and it said I had 39 viruses on it. But the weirdest thing is that it said that my Sim card would get corrupted, but the thing is that my iPad doesn’t even have a Sim card. It’s an iPad! iPads don’t have Sim cards unless you buy them with cell service. I bought my iPad with Wifi only.

Shoulda let the guy "fix" the computer to see how far they might push the scam. The initial payment might easily not have been the end of it. If one of those screens won't let you leave in Windows do a ctrl-alt-del, select task manager, then select your browser in task manager and end the program. Don't "restore the pages" from your last session when you restart the browser. Probably similar in other operating systems - kill the browser. You probably don't have a virus, yet, as you shouldn't be able to get one from a browser (unless you download a file). But you can definitely get one from letting the wrong person poke around inside your computer.

Well, I got one that said I had a virus... But when I clicked the remove link it installed the virus it said I already had! And I'm a Windows user, so I'm more vulnerable since more viruses are made to attack PC computers (that I know of). Nowadays I know all the tricks hackers and scammers use to fool people, and it takes a lot to trick me.

I almost fell into something similar. I got a pop up on my phone screen saying that I have 39 viruses that need to be fixed in 2 mins or damage will be done, all that crap. I got one of these suddenly appear on my screen a year or so ago. It wouldn't go away, and an Indian female recorded message started to tell me that my computer was blocked, do not turn off the computer etc etc. Fortunately I follow Jim Browning's channel, so I knew it was fake, so I switched off the computer and switched it back on with no ill effects whatever.
