I'm all about filling that gap with the rod. Always leaves a smile on my face lol
@Dr_Xyzt5 жыл бұрын
Sometimes, you can tighten up a gap with a ring. Seriously though, cut thin ring of the large pipe so you get a ring. Cut a slot in it so it's like a piston ring, and make it fit the gap. That kind of joint behaves like a lap joint and resists sugaring if you go .060" or thicker.

welding two piece of pipe together … one with a gap .. and one with a tight fit.. are they equally as strong?
@TheChrisey5 жыл бұрын
This is not an issue on thick material like that. 0.7mm sheet metal, now that is challenging, especially without a pulse function

Thanks for this. Just doing some side work
@Martuszewski6 жыл бұрын
Why not use thicker rod and lay wire. The pulsating works to control the puddle, however if you speed up the pole saving mode go in a swirling motion and I’ll buy you more time while laying the wire.

I am not afraid of gaps, i just hate them. Sometimes you need to hold 2 or 3 part of exhaust runner in your hands and you are trying to fit them in correct angle and then tac weld them, then GAP appears when you dont want it or expect it at all :(

there are intangibles dude! not every one has a press and money to just grab a cone. some folks like to use their fukin head. you are correct, but there are other ways as well. here is an example: my cone wore out...it's sunday night at 10pm, nothing is open and I have no pals to borrow one from because the superbowl is on, I hate futeball so I am at the grindstone(literally). improvisation is required. come up with something other than the expensive press and cone. you get me??

Get yourself mini bolt cutters for anything stainless 3/32 or larger. 1/8 th " stainless rods are what i call, guaranteed arthritis... Or carpal tunnel.
@jacobcorbin24366 жыл бұрын
Jeffry Shupert what he said or a pair of "klines" or lineman pliers. I use the channellock 369, if I remember correctly, and it cuts 1/8th stainless better than anybody elses pliers in the shop. I love em!

You mean top and bottom run ? The answer is yep however it will expose more material to heat which might cause changes in the structure of the material which depending on application might be crucial ,for example it'd not matter if the piece was for something like exhaust or manifold however it the piece was subject to forces due to use in for example machinery (leathe,mill etc) it might become huge problem ,or danger (piece of metal flying out from high rpm has enough force to make you feel it if it hits you )
