Yeah, that incident log? Dr Dan sent the picture to the one guy, who became 096-1. That guy viewed them and started 096’s rampage. His punishment for orchestrating this was to be executed. However, the O5 council saw he was right overall. So, they basically said ‘when you kill it, you’ll be killed as well. You live until then.’ The agent that hung himself? He found a crushed pacifier. He couldn’t handle the trauma of knowing 096 had killed a baby.

An XK was explained in the primer video. An XK-Class End of the World Scenario, As for WHY Dr. Dan would want to know where it came from, he's a scientist. The more they can learn about the anomalies, the better they can contain them. "Well, it was probably just ONE photograph..." But you don't KNOW that, do you? The Foundation didn't get to where it is by being lazy and just ASSUMING that it was the only photo. Also, I would like to note that for this SCP, Volgun cut off a chunk of it behind a security clearance. SCP ILLUSTRATED has the entirety of Incident 096-A with the redacted part.

096 is part of a group of particularly durable SCPs that people really like to write termination attempts for. 682, 173, and a hand full of others tend to fall into this group, and some attempts even involve pitting these SCPs against each other.

This is more a combination of early installment weirdness and edginess. Back in the day, people were very fond of their unkillable, unstoppable SCPs that needed crazy means to stop them, and what better way to seem like it's super dangerous than having a termination order put on it. People realized that killing or destroying SCPs kind of kills the drama and mystery. 682 is a clear exception, both because of grandfather clause and because of how iconic the termination attempts have become.

@@josefsieffen18 I'd also say that part of what makes 682 special (and for me what makes it my favourite SCP) is that aside from the fact it can't be killed, it's not all that dangerous. Ignore the fact it can't fully die, and it's basically just a bloodthirsty, hyper-intelligent T. rex. It is a pain in the ass to contain, and it can cause some major damage whenever it escapes, but it's far from the biggest issue the foundation faces. Sure, the SCP that creates any liquid imaginable and the one that is literally just God can't kill it, but a decently prepared MTF squad can recapture it. If Shy Guy breaks containment, the foundation can't do anything until he calms down. That's why I love 682 so damn much: his thing is JUST that he can't die, and can adapt temporarily to whatever is injuring him. Other than that, he is just a sentient, murderous hypercarnivore.

@ballendorf there are a few issues with that. One of them is the intense hatred he has for life is implied to be shared by humans for *him.* We have an instinctual need to kill him, which is part of why he's one of the few SCPs with an active kill order. Also, as *easy* as he is to contain, he gets harder to over time, and is fully capable of adapting to literally *everything* we can throw at him. As is explored in other stories, the only way we can kill him seems to be killing *_everything else_* alongside him.

Part of the severely messed up situation with Dr Dan's intentional release of 096 is that the Scramble system would have worked perfectly if he hadn't intentionally sabotaged it to allow brief single frame shots of 096's face through for the wearer to see.

You should definitely check out the 096 film by MRKlay as that is as close to a movie as we will get. Additionally to clarify, Doctor Dan and Doctor Alexi orchestrated 096's breach to prove to the 05 council that it needed to be terminated, and despite being caught in the lie permission was granted. Alexi was caught in the lie of being in the break room and getting coffee during the breach when the facility had neither, he ended up spilling the truth and became the *late* Doctor Alexi well Doctor Dan was at least given the chance to take 096 with him to the grave.

Keep in mind that the first series scps are much simpler as they were written way earlier than any other entries. As the amount of entries increased the standard for an accepted scp also increased so we get things like scp 5000 (One of the best written scps, highly recommend to check it out when you're more familiar with the entire scp subject) which focus more on the story rather than the anomaly itself

I forget which 96 video it's from, but one of them has a section of another mobile task force member being interrogated. He was investigating one of the wrecked vehicles alongside the highway for any signs of life. He found the mangled remains of several children and a baby, killed when 96 slammed into the front of the vehicle and killed the babies mother who happened to catch a glance of 96 when it was attempting to reach 96-1(the guy who first saw the 4 pixels in his old photo and caused 96 to breach containment) The soldier is obviously traumatised during the interview, and at the end it's revealed he was later found dead in the janitors closest, having hung himself.

Must have been a fan-made expansion of that scenario from the original article as 096 does not leave anything left of whoever sees it. The article only says that an MTF soldier saw it rip open a minivan and after the interview, he hung himself while holding a crushed pacifier. It does not say anything more than that. It relies on the readers to piece it together; that the reason he did that to himself was because he probably saw it destroy the baby that pacifier once belonged to. Maybe there were other children in the van but that's all the article says. I think adding all that extra violent deaths makes it too much.

On top of another general SCP to look into (SCP-682 "The Unkillable Lizard"/"Hard-To-Destroy Reptile", which is my personal favourite, and has an amazing short story associated with it called "The Inevitable End of All But Me") I would highly recommend the following short films: "096" is a fantastic adaptation of the Scramble Goggle incident; and "Overlord" and "Dollhouse" are outstanding portrayals of initial investigations into unknown anomalies, specifically with a major focus on cognitohazards (IMO one of the best and most interesting parts of SCP). There's also an excellent series of short films called "There Is No Antimemetics Division", again focused on cognitohazards. And, there's a recent short film, also excellent, called "SCP: The Doctor", which deals with SCP-049 and, again, cognitohazards, though I'd recommend waiting to watch it until you've seen a video covering 049. The other short films I mentioned all deal with non-specific or otherwise undocumented SCPs (or one you've covered already), so a good to watch whenever.

For a beginner I'd recommend focusing on The Exploring Series' SCP vids. He might not read off the entire document like TheVolgun but he does a good job explaining things at the end and his summaries have all the needed info. I'm not much of a fan of TheVolgun's SCP file vids. He's basically just reading the entire document off and much prefer TES way of doing things. But I will admit that the sheer quality of TheVolgun's vids is amazing, the art he uses is good and the voice acting is phenomenal. On top of that I love the other SCP vids he does. I don't like his SCP document ones but his 001 proposals, the tales he covers like the Ethics Committee Orientation, and more are nothing short of amazing. I really liked his Dr. Clef's seminar on Reality Benders and his When Day Breaks series is an absolute masterpiece. When he said he was "on break" that didn't mean the doctor went to have a break during the containment breach. He was already having his break when 096 broke out. Lemme explain. Dr. Dan felt that 096 was far too great a threat to allow to exist so he kept pushing for its termination but kept getting pushback since its "contained" and not a real threat. So he and Oleksi (dunno how to spell it) engineered this massive containment breach. He found the photo containing 4 pixels of 096's face and used it. This caused 096 to break out and head to the man who saw those pixels, and since it broke out of containment it's face was seen along the way and it killed everyone else who saw it. This was to show the 05 Council that 096 is far too dangerous and needed to be terminated as soon as possible, sacrificing everyone who saw it's face in the process. Both Foundation staff as well as the civilian population. Including an infant, hence why that agent committed suicide with a pacifier in his hand. But he was also banking on the Scramble goggles to work and they were useless and his plan was found out by the 05. He was successful in convincing them that 096 needed to be terminated but his sacrifice of so many innocent people also means that he himself will be terminated (executed) as punishment for his crimes once he succeeds.

173 is another really good beginner SCP. It’s actually the first one, which started all of this. Just a dude posting on 4chan back in 2007. You should also be fine checking out Infinite Ikea at this point. Probably one of the best “ridiculous concept, frightening execution” SCPs. Also fun fact about that “four pixels” thing, that photo exists. There’s actually at least 2 versions made. One is on the actual SCP site, I’m surprised it wasn’t shown in this.

Talking about having a video from the perspective of the people who have to bag and tag these things. It brings to mind there is a tabletop rpg about doing just that. Playing as the recovery teams who have to investigate the reports of new anomalies or re-containing escaped ones. Im currently setting up a one shot for my friends who were just normal people in a small town that had an anamolous reality bomb go off in it, and people were randomly made into reality benders. So, my players have to learn their new powers, and actively hide from the Foundation after they quarantine the small town.

Considering that 100km/h is 62 mph... yeah, he's a fast boi. 10:20 - They don't know how, but they're going to try everything they can until they pull it off. 15:05 - This wasn't an experiment. This was a straight-up containment breach. 19:15 - After determining where they believed 096's current target was, they rounded up the civilians of that location and blindfolded them to make sure that they can't see 096's face when it shows up (since if they see it, they're the next one on 096's chopping block and there isn't a damn thing the Foundation can do to stop it). The MTF is trying to limit the number of casualties from the containment breach, so they're threatening to shoot anyone who tries to flee or remove their blindfold in order to keep them from doing something that's going to get them targeted by 096. 26:00 - I'm assuming he's talking about the CH-53E Super Stallion, a military helicopter designed for transporting troops, supplies, and heavy equipment. 26:25 - Dr. Oleski's alibi for where he was when this particular containment breach happened was that he was getting coffee in the break room at the site where 096 was being contained. The interviewer is revealing that they know he was bullshitting them and that he knows more about the breach than he's letting on. 27:35 - "Termination" can mean a lot of things when it comes to SCP articles. In the case of Foundation staff, though... For a Foundation researcher to be sentenced to termination, it means that they've *royally fucked up.* So royally that being fired isn't even on the table anymore, now we're getting into things like execution, being demoted to D-class... or any number of horrible things. They've got plenty of anomalies lying around, after all. Lots of potential methods of punishing somebody who pulled a stunt that risked the extinction of the human race... 32:25 - Yeah, but they do offer mental health care for their personnel, at least. Amnestics are sometimes available too if it would help them. Some articles have interviews or writings from the MTF members' viewpoints, and they're usually pretty good at capturing just how fucked-up some of the situations they find themselves in can get. SCP-3241 and SCP-3199 have some pretty good ones for that.

Dr Dan and Oleksi schemed together to have 096 breach containment to show how dangerous it was and get permission to kill it. They weren't so slick (Oleksi claimed to be getting coffee in the breakroom when the breach happened but the site didn't even have a breakroom so it was obvious he was lying and knew the breach was going to happen) and the 05 council and their investigators realized that and scheduled both for execution, but gave Dr Dan time to figure out how to kill 096. The final interview in the video was the first time they EVER got 096 into containment, so yeah they didn't have any idea what it could do because they had yet to study it. It's a bit confusing to have it at the end and not at the start.

Eventually you'll have to try the game "SCP: Containment breach" but I think it's best to get a little familiarization with some of the more commonly known SCP. It's a fun way to test some knowledge and react to things when you recognize some of them. SCP - 106 is my next recommendation. Or if you want a break from the scarry stuff, SCP - 914 is another good beginner one.

I’ve been wanting to get to reading all files on all the Scps, but haven’t until recently. I tried to many months ago, but I dropped it because I had other stuff to catch up on, but I am on that again now, as of writing this, I am am going through all the proposals of scp-001 right now am on S Andrew Swann- the database. Yeah this scp is basically oh you looked at me? Your free trial of life as expired. If a picture gets in the news its gg the world(funny enough this method was used in another scp story set in another universe). And there is no way to escape him. Depending on the canon they tried with someone being on the moon and he jumped to it. And its not even killable. They tried scp 682,did more than people expected but didnt work out,they tried sending to the sun and it didnt worked out. Just saying. The goggles WOULD HAVE WORKED if the idiots put a delay on the video feed. Just make the video shown to the team 0.5 seconds behind real time, when the AI spots the face and scrambles it with the goggles, it deletes the frames before and after activation and that eliminates any leaks.
