I made it so easy for them. I have been enamored with this window company for years. I told myself if I ever got to a point in my life where I could afford to purchase those windows I would. Fast forward 20+ years I reached that point. When I looked back on the sale there were so many red flags that the sales person was being deceptive. I overpaid for the job by a considerable amount. My advice do your homework and don’t be emotional be rational if you can. I love my windows all the same. Jeff, thanks for doing your part by educating the public.

Your videos definitely helped me with my window buying process. I experienced almost exactly like you described with several sales people. When I was told by one if I don’t buy today the 3% discount goes away I just smiled and said that’s ok considering how much were talking about I can live with that 😂 eventually I found a great local installer with high quality wood windows for half the cost of the big name franchises. Also as a former sales person, anytime someone has a same day discount that goes away the next day it’s just in an effort to prevent you from having enough time to find out there are better options.

Great information Jeff and much appreciate your videos. It's good to see someone doing this and giving insights to the industry. We are in the process of getting 3-4 windows (Houston area) and been very surprised with the cost of a regular 72x36 inch double pane window, vinyl, al or fiberglass frame to be so expensive. All companies claim to be the best and as you said in earlier videos, there are only 4 major manufacturers, but the confusion on what's good or not, warranty type and installation guarantee long term is confusing. Some companies quote a fixed price for window installed & some would separate out the price of window and installation. Anyhow, it's a tedious process, but good learning from your videos about the windows and types. Thanks

Love the channel! Great information. I will say, sometimes the truckload thing is real. In California (not sure about Texas) everyone buys Marvin from a distributor and if we buy enough for a full Marvin truckload we get an additional discount. Generally it takes a few orders to reach that threshold. Upcoming price increases is another one that comes across as a tactic but ever since c19 its been crazy, going from 1 per year to 5 or more in a year (some a day or 2 notice). I love my job because it has aspects of problem solving, specialized knowledge, building relationships and working as a team with a common goal. When all of that comes together it feels so rewarding. In my opinion the money side takes care of itself if you’re honest and build a solid reputation.

I know everyone loves pella windows and we did get a quote directly from pella and this is basically exactly how the sales pitch went and I was honestly completely put off by it and went with another company.

I backed out of a contract with your reasoning. Still in the market but will be going with a local contractor instead of these sleazy window companies. Recommend everyone to follow this advise when shopping for windows.

Only one out of seven salesmen I spoke with used that highball/discount approach. The guy used curse words and badmouthed their receptionist while he was at my house, so that was a big turn off. He didn't even bring a sample of the window for me to look at. A week later he called back offering 40% off his starting price, but I had already signed with another company, and have absolutely no regrets. Another salesman from a company that advertised a lot of window brands sat like a psychiatrist asking me questions for three hours, but only gave me an offer for their own private-label window when he came back a week later. It was a pretty decent price, but I did not like the window.

Wow! I'm so glad you survived that gauntlet of sales people! It's amazing to me that tactics that people will use to try to take away your hard-earned money. Whatever happened to offering a a great product at a fair price?

Reminds me of a solar company that came knocking. I wanted to pay cash and own the system. The salesman wanted to install his panels on my roof and he’d sell me electricity. I said no a dozen times. Then he explained how “burdensome” owning the panels would be. He wasted 2 hours of my time trying over and over to change my mind. I finally told him I was done and he needed to leave (which he did).

Hi Jeff I am about to make a huge purchase I have 33 windows and need help making a decision , my contractor is pushing the Anderson woodwright … I have been doing a lot of research and originally wanted aluminum on exterior … I’m not near water I live in NY, I just liked the look of it… we are doing double hung …. Now I was comparing that to a Marvin ultimate window…. It’s only about a 6 thousand dollars difference in the scheme of things…. The Anderson has a very quick lead time I was told 4-6 weeks , I’m doing the painted white factory finish, I like the single locking mechanism , and it has the clear screen…. The exterior is not as nice it’s fibrex… the Marvin looks better , not crazy about the screen anderson has the clearest screen … and the lead time is 16-18 weeks…. I am torn … price is not even the issue at this point …. Which one do I select ?

I have sold windows for over 20 years (Andersen and Marvin) I personally prefer the Marvin by a fairly wide margin. Marvin used to make a much better Double Hung window but they recently redesigned it and in my opinion it doesn’t operate nearly as smooth as it used to. If you are looking at Casements, Marvin is a great choice that you won’t regret.

I think that the Marvin product is your best choice. It would be worth the wait and additional expense. Remember, the installer is the most critical part of any project. If you need help finding someone in your area, please let me know.

Good video Jeff! The only part of information I would have included to buyers that are on the market and using your information, a homeowner could be asking WHAT IS A FAIR PRICE? In prior videos that I’ve watched I believe you stated a good rule of thumb is a homeowner should divide approximately 5 to percent of your home value? Correct? Just trying to help. Hope all is well Jeff!
@HoustonWindowExperts
@HoustonWindowExperts Жыл бұрын
I try to avoid giving exact price and because it very so much between different markets and the project itself can vary based on the difficulty. Yes, if you buy a good vinyl window, you should plan to spend between 5 and 8% of the value of your home.

@@HoustonWindowExperts How can you possibly base window price on home value? In California, some postage size lot and house can be $1M while something several miles away can be twice the size and half the price.

2 questions… Does a company like Lowe’s have cheaper prices on Pella windows than a window dealer? And secondly have you done any videos of installing casement windows on 2x6 construction with zipr9 construction?
@HoustonWindowExperts
@HoustonWindowExperts Жыл бұрын
I would imagine that Lowe's must pay a lower price than any local dealer would. However, it doesn't not mean that they're going to sell at the same price. I've gone up against Lowe's on occasion and my price was lower than theirs. At other times they were much lower than me. I have no way to determine what rhyme or reason they use to determine their pricing. It seems to fluctuate inconsistently.
@HoustonWindowExperts
@HoustonWindowExperts Жыл бұрын
No, I have not made a video about that process. I deal with so little new construction work that I rarely make videos about that. I can add that to my list for a future video.

@@HoustonWindowExperts I am curious how a casement window works with extension jambs. The Pella Lifestyle series has a crank that looks like it would interfere.

Yes that approach breeds commission breath. The sales guy or gal is only thinking about their commission instead of what’s best for the customer so it ends up being confrontational. Just be real and be someone that is there to help the customer and listen to them. You’ll earn so many more sales because they trust you with confidence.
