Setting up habits is a goal.

"Brushing your teeth is something you subconsciously do." Apparently my brain hasn't caught onto that after 30 years of life. If I don't see the toothbrush at the right time there's a 15% I'll remember. If I DO see it there's maybe a 45% chance. xD

Right exactly. "Set up habits" just doesn't work with ADHD because nothing ever becomes subconscious or automatic.

This video is so great in so many different ways Dallin. I'm 63, and I have had ADD my whole life. Growing up it was always, "hey he could do so much better if he would just apply himself." Which I'm sure everybody who's watched this has heard! You talking about atomic habits really hit home hard with me. I've had the paper book, audiobook, and Kindle book For over three years now... and not finished any of them yet! Your video has given me the kick in the butt to start my one percent. Thanks again!

I have a goal, but also built a system to make it easy to build a habit and a routine that will get me to the goal. Also built an accountability system to keep me going with the routine. I wrote every part of the system on a large paper and stuck it to the wall in the room where I'll be performing the habit, so I see it every day and don't forget. What I also thought about is to make it challenging so I never get bored or give up, so this habit/routine has difficulty levels as well

Instructions unclear. I am now 5 months early to every meeting, appointment, or event in my life. No one ever knows why I am there, and I have been arrested twice.

This is a great video. Lately I've been saying to my friends and family "My routine is my religion." I have to protect and prioritize my daily to-do's or I will fall out of rhythm and abandon my routine. I'm 34 and this is the first year I have found a good system for me and tweaked my environment to support my success. I hope others use your advice it's really been working for me

My ADHD means I can't build routines or habits. It just doesn't work for me.

For the reading part, check out “The Confident Mind” by Nate Zinssser. Zinsser is the head of sports psychology at West Point and has helped many Olympic athletes. In his book, he explains in detail some of the topics that were covered in this video.

This stuff actually works. Although, this is concepts and to bridge the gap between exposure to this knowledge and actually implementing it is quite the challenge for myself.

My thing for stopping bad habits is make it harder , example i drink alot of fizzy drinks that are generally with me. Now i keep all fizzy drinks in the fridge so if i want it i have to go get it drink it there and then put it back

Me too, but I got the point. Things that we want to achieve need our time so we have to make small changes to reach the wanted goal. Recently, I set the goal for myself to write farewell letters for every student in our course and for more other people. Everytime when I want to continue writing I just sit in empty room and do nothing so my brain begins to scroll the info in my head and I realize that it is filled with nothing else but entertaining trash or videogame moments. It is not my dopamine, it is a lowgrade dopamine that doesn't motivate me, but forces me to watch more. Even the motivational videos doesn't motivate that much to do the work. Boredom and nothingness - is the key. Sit and do nothing and for a time you realize that you better do your work and you automatically avoid distractions that doesn't deserve your time. Hope I told something right.

Thank you so much for this reminder! Pure gold! Boomshakala!! I remember that “atomic habits” is a fantastic read. I forgot the details though the book talks about. Out of sight out of mind. That’s me and my ADHD
