School is the leading cause of depression anxiety stress sleep deprivation and suicide wonder why
@benelamay64275 жыл бұрын
It is so sad that this is so true. They never see how much pain we are going through on the inside. One of my best friends has to live up to the expectations of all of the teachers of being the second best student in my class of 41 kids. She is in higher level classes, she has to devote all of her lunch period and all of her time at home doing homework, she barely gets any sleep, she is depressed, her girlfriend has anxiety and she feels the need that she needs to fix it because no one else will, and I have seen her get so stressed that she burst out crying in the bathroom. On top of that she is a lesbian that is not accepted by her parents because they are Christians and think that she will just "get over it". It is sad that the fact that my friends and I can talk about killing ourselves without even thinking about it because that is how we were raised and how bad our mental state is. Another one of my friends has thought about committing suicide because of her parents. She is so depressed I don't think that she even realizes it anymore. Her parents constantly berate her and tell her whenever anything goes wrong that it is all her fault. She has to pay for her own clothes and all the school trips we go on. The only time her parents ever spend money on her is through food. And she has child support coming in for her. They are taking that money and none of it is even going towards her. She didn't even know that she could leave her parent's house before she was eighteen and move in with a relative that can support her. I ended up looking the law up myself and that is the only reason she knows about it. This is crazy. They should start getting rid of the useless stuff and start teaching us laws and how to help us in these situations.

I don't see any viable explanation as of why so many schools often prioritize this to be inside their school curriculum. p.s Agreed
@Blue-pk4ny3 жыл бұрын
@Julio Cesar Aye, schools are really vague about what's worth teaching the kids when it comes to these sensitive subjects. I'll be turning 15 soon and I had to watch some KZbin videos just to learn how to use a condom. (Not that l'm actually sexually active, but as some just-in-case knowledge). The school's tactic of this "We have too many humans but teens aren't ready for decisions and explanations." Is pretty flawed. 90% of the people who graduate school will at least have families of their own, so it's only necessity to properly teach them how to become good parents. And getting kids can honestly happen to anybody regardless of wealth or job status. But If they're choosing to actually stick with that mentality. School's should've taught this in developing countries because that's where all the birth rates are rising in. Or fck it. If they want to slow population boom so badly then why not tell children to never have sex entirely.

@pink3puppy3 жыл бұрын
Don't get angry and spout insults that is the quickest way to shut down debate. I get where you're coming from, but I have to disagree. If you taught parental skills on a basic level it would help immensely. The state already has a monopoly on education. The only way to get it back, is to educate the population into understanding they have a vote and how to use it. We do not live in a dictatorship yet, you can go to every town hall meeting and discuss the curriculum and how you would like it to change. The state should be teaching personal responsibility. They should also be teaching the basic of child rearing. You do not need to teach people how to raise their children politically, only to communicate and how to do that. Changing diapers, what milestones and age they should be at, how to play with them to encourage development, how much you should be spending on average, the health benefits of breastfeeding, exc. I see absolutely no problems in teaching basic child rearing. If you're worried about tyrants having control over education, you should be worried about that when they first created public schooling. I think putting control of education into the hands of the student would only help with that. After all, right now all they learn is what the state dictates. They have very little control over what they learn, and if they do it would eat up all the free time they could spend on their Hobbies.
@thatguythere61613 жыл бұрын
@@benjaminparent4115 Well, they could at least show the different psychological effects different parenting methods have on children. Those are facts, and they don’t actually tell you directly how to parent, just what to expect if you parent a certain way. You make a good point but there is still opportunities to make the system better
@pink3puppy3 жыл бұрын
@@benjaminparent4115 I also don't agree that children aren't smart enough to realize what they will need for the future. Try to remember what it was like being at that age. There is nothing wrong with a basic education on child rearing. Majority of the population are parents, not necessarily good parents but parents nonetheless. It is a vital skill and one that needs to be taught. It is a very rare individual that does not want or cannot have kids. I'm not saying to force those people into a child care class I'm saying more options would be beneficial. Children should absolutely get to choose what they learn. they are not stupid. Forcing children into subjects that they do not enjoy will not force them to learn it will only force them to memorize and comply.
@pink3puppy3 жыл бұрын
@@benjaminparent4115 how do you expect to teach critical thinking and self-sufficiency when they are not allowed to choose their courses? If you cannot trust them to go to the bathroom by themselves, how can they even be trusted to explore a career? There's nothing wrong with tunnel vision. It just means that you excel in a certain area. There is no point in forcing a student who has no interest in art to pursue it. It is a waste of their time. There is no point in telling students what they should learn. If they are not interested in a subject they will not absorb it. You can disagree that child rearing is not important all you want. The basic fact is if you do not teach children to parent, they will always be children. The quickest way to allow your children to grow up is to treat them like adults. It is extraordinarily patronizing to them when you tell them what to do. You imply that they have no agency or intelligence and that is insulting. Do you see how quickly the conversation with them breaks down when you are coming at a position above them? I understand talking down to a 3-year-old. That should stop by age 12. You're an absolutely no position above them after 12 years old. The teachers should stop acting like Lords and more like public servants. They should serve our children the knowledge that they want to have. There is no reason why children should not pursue what most interests them. Self-taught learning is a very real, and very effective method. Imagine if you could, a school system in which a student is allowed to take control of their learning. How much specialization would you see in the workforce? Everyone seems to want the same thing but they disagree about how to get there. You say you want more problem solving. You don't get that with a memorization curriculum. You get that by giving them problems to solve. They should face immense but controlled problems in the school system. How to manage a schedule. How to choose what courses are best for them. How to arrange their day in the way that benefits both social lives and their sleep. You say you want problem solvers, but the system that you promote only gives us drones. And they are pissed as they have every right to be because we have failed them on every level educationally. Why do you think homeschool children and private school children do so much better in society? Could it be because they actually have a bit of ownership over their learning? Could it be that they're not jammed into a dictatorship of teacher versus student? You want one thing, but support the thing that gives you the same results. Please reconsider.

Jakub Hampl Wow, and so does many people. Guess what, I actually promote human rights as well, does it make me entitled to steal your money or tell your what to do? (and lock you up if you don't do it) Can you even define theft? Tell me how you think it's different from taxation. And inb4 'muh democracy' - it isn't an answer here, why would i care if 'the majority' thinks i should go to school, not be able to own a gun, corss the road on the red light or give all my money away for free? Democracy is the only solution we have in some cases, but a strong constitution is what guarantees our right, not government, the 'majority' shouldn't have a say in many cases it has nowadays. State (hopefully a minimal, night-watchman one) may provide and guarantee some rights to its citizens, but none of those matters when the sole right of every man is being violated, that right is freedom.

Everything he just said is true. I'm not saying everything taught in school is useless. But why don't they teach us this stuff?
@jacobworboy67299 жыл бұрын
Even if you want to learn about finances for your country there are courses for that in school. Yes, it's true that in high school you won't use 90% of what you're taught. But you'll use maybe 5-10%. And then someone else will use a different 10%. And all of the knowledge gets spread out through everyone who's going into different jobs and post secondary-schools. Just because you don't use it doesn't mean someone else isn't. So they teach everyone a general understanding of everything so it will be easier for people to specialize in one thing. If you want to learn about first aid or stocks or politics in high school than take the appropriate course. Or take a course outside of school. Or hire someone with a university degree in the subject. It's not hard.

+Frank I love you right now, no homo. You just perfectly summed up the biggest problem of the public education system in one sentence.
@dante23079 жыл бұрын
+Evan Urena =) Yea, and praising or neglecting students based upon their merits of subjects that the schools have deemed important is ridiculous. It sets students, who have an interest in other subjects outside of school, up for failure because they are labeled incompetent simply due to not adhering to conventional book-smarts. The schools neglect them as they are deemed failures in their eyes; the students emulate the labels given to them and become delinquents; and potential brilliant minds are lost because of the inefficiency of the school system.
@evanurena88689 жыл бұрын
+Frank Exactly, well said. Focusing on grades, exams, and rigid benchmarks rather than learning is a complete deficiency in education. The students are more focused on academic status to impress colleges rather than focusing on their own goals to be self-actualized about their futures. The government really does not know much about education as they mostly care about standardized protocols only relating to accolades of exams, grades, and rigid requirements rather than learning. They are more centered on authoritarian preconceived notions on what they think a child should know to be educated, when they themselves did not use a lot of the stuff they learned in school and fail to realize that kids are individuals just like they are. Obama says kids need algebra, yet an everyday person like himself barely ever uses it. I'm a math geek, so if i asked him a problem in a slightly advanced topic on algebra such as the properties and inverse relations of exponential and logarithmic functions, he would look at me in a clueless and oblivious manner? Why? Because he does not need algebra to do what is capable of doing in his daily job, so why does he assume that every high school kid needs algebra when each of them have different goals of wanting to survive in the real world. I have no hatred for Obama, but politicians like him always contradict themselves about the problems behind education reformation, because they are naive about it. Leave it to the democratic/progressive schools, education reformists/activists like Alfie Kohn, and professionals in various careers to fix the education system and help kids become more self-actualized about their futures, not a politician or corporate conglomerate who is so concerned with standardized test scores, letters, and numbers all because we want to rank higher than China.
@AlexandreKarpov9 жыл бұрын
+Frank well, because education is only third of it's goals. #1 is indoctrination ("socialization", they call it) into the current socio-political system. #2 is "daycare", so that adults can go work in a double-income family, where both of them are taxed of half the income, and children are left to the State for #1.

@qwertyasdf4081 Жыл бұрын
The stuff about being a basic adult is absolutely taught lmao. Most schools offer Home Economics and such. Also learning “useless” knowledge is still incredibly useful because it teaches you how to learn, which is a skill in and of itself. I wrote another reply to someone else that I’m going to paste her because it addresses a lot of this: “Same here. Then I grew up and realized he’s so wrong about everything lmao. Most schools do teach what he is complaining about, classes like Current Events and Home Economics are incredibly common. Financial Literacy is often taught as well, I learned it and I went to a small and underfunded public school. I was absolutely taught “what laws there are” as well. Not to mention that the main purpose of school isn’t the information that it gives you, like Boyinaband seems to think, it’s the experience, work ethic, self-application, socialization, routine, etcetera. School prepares you for real life in that way. Sure, will you really need the quadratic equation when you grow up? Probably not. But knowing how to learn a foreign and intangible concept is absolutely a skill you will use. Sorry for the rant, I just really hate when people have this specific complaint about the schooling system. It has its faults, but not this.”

"AND INSIST THESE POINTLESS THINGS don't stay in school" is the line that I find 99% of people miss. They're not saying don't go to school, they're saying that schools teach too much abstract concepts and not enough real world lessons. School should be teaching stuff kids actually need. Like they literally say at the end: "If you can't explain why a subject is applicable to most people's lives, _that subject should _*_not_*_ be mandatory_ "

YOUR RIGHTS 30 HUMAN RIGHTS (you're welcome) 1. All human beings are born free and equal (right not to be discriminated against) 2. Everyone has the right to life, liberty and security of person (you can't be imprisoned, assaulted, or killed without a damn good reason, like you commited a crime for instance. 4. You have the right not to be enslaved in any form 5. You have ther right to not be tortured or subjected to inhumane or degrading punishment 6. Everyone, everywhere has the right to recognition as a person under the law 7. Everyone has the right to protection under the law, and to be subject to the same laws as everyone else (nobody is imune from the law, and nobody is to be punnished any differently from anyone else for breaking it) 8. No one shall be subjected to arbitrary arrest, detention or exile. (verbatim, self explanitory) 10. Everyone is entitled in full equality to a fair and public hearing by an independent and impartial tribunal, in the determination of his rights and obligations and of any criminal charge against him. (everyone is equal in law) 11. You have the right to be presume innocent until proven guilty in a court of law where you were given all aplicble defence. Also you cant be punished for a crime retroactively (in other words you can't be punished for commitiing a crime that wasn't a crime at the time you did it, and you can't be given a harsher sentence now, if the penalty was less at the time you commited the offence) 12. You have the right to privacy and not to be slandered or have your private corespondence messed interfeed with (right not to be bugged without a warrant, that sort of thing) and the right not to be slandered or defamed. 13. You have the right to freedom of expression and opinion 20. You have the right to peaceful assembly and association, and the right not to be forced to be a member of any group you don't want to be a part of 21. You have the right to vote, and take part in the politics of your country regardless of sex, race etc 22. You have the right to social security 23. Everyone has the right to work and to not be forced to work, everyone has the right to be paid equally and fairly and the right to belong to a trade union 24. Everyone has the right freely to participate in the cultural life of the community, to enjoy the arts and to share in scientific advancement and its benefits. Everyone has the right to the protection of the moral and material interests resulting from any scientific, literary or artistic production of which he is the author. (verbatim, but the two parts before and after are numbered and would fuck up my numbering here lol) 28. Everyone has the right to live in a society that observes these rights 29. Everyone has the right to live in a society where everyon has a duty to uphold these rights 30. nobody has the right to interpret any of these rights as permision to deprive you of your rights (basically lol) I have summerised many of these for brevity (and because I honestly don't know how many characters you're allowed in these coments lol). If i have misinterpreted any of them please forgive me and of course feel free to correct me in the coments. Some juristictions have adional rights enshrined in law that apend to this, such as the american constitution, wherein the first amendment details the "bill of rights". Also the European human rights act both of which I encourage you to read. Below is a link to the Document I have sumerised here. www.un.org/en/about-us/universal-declaration-of-human-rights So now you know what rights there are. I would encourage many of the people in the coments to pay particular attention to to numbers 10, 11 and 12 (just sayin)

@@JasonBrossa Any two rights that are not the same are automatically at conflict which each other and you are reading into them too literally. The implication of those two are that to act morally a nation should take care of the less fortunate when reasonably possible. In the context of our world they make perfect sense and human rights are fundamentally a contract between states about the treatment of people. In our world we have states and they have power by the simple virtue of existing just as money has power. Human rights interfere in how that power shall be used. No slavery is required because humans inherently give power to states by their free will or by the nature of power dynamics whichever you want to believe.
