I agree with your Battlestar Galactica assessment. It starts out extremely good, and it keeps being good in the day-to-day stuff (acting, characters, dialog, ...), but it falls apart at the large-scale story level. It is clear that the creators had no endgame in mind when they started out, and the mysteries and plot points that made the beginning great never paid off in the end. The Expanse does not have that failing.

I’ve always felt that each new season raised the stakes. That seems impossible but there are different ways to raise the stakes. Season 4 doesn’t have the “all of humanity dying” peril of season 3, but it does have intense and personal close-up danger for the crew of the Rocinante.

The general consensus is that people can survive for around three days without water, with estimates typically ranging from two days to a week. Wilderness guides often refer to the “rule of 3”, which says that a person can live for 3 minutes without air (oxygen), 3 days without water, and 3 weeks without food. Unless people in the future have an elevated need for water and food, they would be fine stuck in there for a couple/three days.

I LOVE you guys' Expanse reactions!!! I'm very glad you're back!!! Also, this season is PURE HORROR. There are now DEATH SLUGS(that's what Holden calls them in the books) in the mix!!! This universe is not for us, as much as we'd like to pretend it is!!! It's almost like we should be a LOT more careful before we just decide to live on some bizarre planet that we don't understand!!!

The thing about "dangerous planets"... It was dangerous to go explore different lands, it was dangerous to send expeditions to the west in US, gold-rushed (which this season is, a "blood-soaked gold rush" like Holden said) was bloody and dangerous. But because of all of it people settled the Earth. It is in our nature, as people, to and go explore, be opportunistic about it. As someone mentioned in the comments, we do tend to f*ck around and find out. Honestly, it is tough, because Avasarala is kind of both right and wrong about the issue.

Honestly, I would say that The Expanse is probably the best scifi series we have gotten. I love BSG and some of Trek, but The Expanse is a masterpiece. The most annoying part is the fake Norwegian singing in the beginning, because while nice it also has a very uncanny feeling to it.

The election plotline was created whole-cloth for Season Four as none of this ever happened and was only done to keep Shohreh Aghdashloo active rather than lose her the way they lost the actor who played Arjun in Season One.

Great reaction! Man these are just so funny and entertaining! 👌😊 On the best sci-fi series part, for me it's Stargate series > The Expanse > other series. There are amazing ones like the few (live action) about Star Wars, but those are still very short compared to Stargate and Expanse. Some series have come out that are ok, but not so high budget, so Expanse did fit really well as a more modern sci-fi series. It comes close to the level of Stargate and that is a really big deal!

Eh, Ilus is no worse than Australia. There was a point in Battlestar Galactica that it lost its way...right about the point one character came to the same conclusion and committed suicide. BG lost its way, which is why I have no problem placing The Expanse above it. You don't know it yet, but The Expanse never loses its way. I'm sure it's because the story was already fully written and proven successful.

@@remliqa I’d say stick with it to the end of the New Caprica arc at the start of Season 3, ending with episode 5, “Collaborators” (3.5). There are parts of season 2 that are… well, “Black Market” (2.14) is often recognized as the show’s worst episode, and “The Farm” (2.5) is contentious for good reason. The miniseries that opens the show is the only part I’d recommend without reservations, but the New Caprica arc is in my opinion the best part of the show.

Every season starts off weak. Being that it’s based on a book as part of a book series. You get the prologue, which is cool. The 1st act which is like, what’s going on, why do I care. And then everything turns on it ends in the 2nd act. And in the 3rd act, everyone gets their act together and push for broke. And then you get the epilogue which leaves things open for the next one.

People have to get comfortable respecting that criticism is only bad or that it’s unwarranted if someone doesn’t share one’s own lens. Even writers and actors have hindsight where they would have changed this or that so to insult or take umbrage for something so valuable and crucial to the world that is created for the audience benefit is wholly asinine. Agree to disagree; caveat certain points with critical thinking (thought out responses other than “you’re wrong!”), or nope out but for goodness sake stop assuming your opinions are the only ones that are valid people!
