Hi Steve, Thanks so much! So great to hear that. You're doing excellent!! You understand what to watch out for (paying attention) Please keep reviewing "foundation" "theory" section a lot. I just made "Practice routine" video so I will post that soon. Reviewing and record yourself is must!! I have so much passion making my Guitar Wisdom videos. I am working on "theory section" lately so you wont miss anything from that section!! Coming from my 27 years of Berklee teaching and 42 years of playing experiences. I want to make "the best theory that can really apply to real music" You're very welcome! New Tomo Fujita USA WebSite tomojustfunky.com

I am so glad I found your channel, you are a gem of guitarist side of youtube xD Also, I am always finding myself being more focused on the fretboard than the strumming, so much that I blank out on the tablature alone and finally, when I get the rythm of the hand I start listening and fine-tunning my playing speed and style. I am doing fingerstyle a lot so I have to focus on picking with my softer part finger to have more mellow tone or the nail for a crisp sound.

Tomo hinted at this earlier in the video, but you HAVE to contextualize your ear training. Practice hearing sounds in the context of a key, a progression, a chord. Get out of the habit of hearing blind intervals (because any interval can operate anywhere, how do you tell the difference between a Db and an Ab and a C and a G? If you are C, these sounds operate differently than they do in Ab). Realize that ear training is a life long endeavor. You learn it by listening, transcribing, and by focusing in on how context influences how you hear sound. Glad to hear someone from Berklee not just hammering on about straight interval training. If you want focused ear training that is worth the money--sometimes you gotta spend a little to get quality (though, not much--the cost of an album or two)--then I urge you all to check out Bruce Arnold over at muse-eek dot com. After 13 years, I am still using his materials to train my ears. Money and time well spent. Another great exercise is to give yourself a reference key center, and finger the notes on the strings of your guitar without playing them. Pianists do this a lot--challenging, but rewarding. Don't touch your guitar if you can't hear clearly--I agree with my whole existence. Whatever you do, be safe out there!

Great Video Tomo! always so insightful, what did you do at 8:25 to give an almost tremolo like effect, was it strumming over each pick up to produce a slightly different tone. Seen SRV do this a lot and really enjoy the sound it produces.

Please excuse the rookie questions, 1 is major 6-9 one chord.as opposed to a, Major 6 b. Major 9. 2 can these extensions be played on all major Chord in scale? 1, 4, 5 ,8 ……….Or confined to the root? 3 it seems played as Major 7, the Root and the 7 in the scale…is this a power chord parallel? Or is it assumed people at this level understand that it is 1-3-7…or 1-5-7 Please excuse my efforts… Blessings

Dear Tomo, I am a big fan from Madagascar. I recently purchased a Gretsch Streamliner and I am thinking about what strings to get. I am about to start learning jazz and blues on your website and I am looking into the D’Addario Chromes flatwound that you just showed here. I play with a lot of bends. What gauge should I get? Thank you so much !

Yes you can . It took my years to stop gripping the fret board way way too tightly..It cause hand fatigue theres a sweet spot for grip/finger tension that doesn’t wear your fingers out and has good tone. Focus on note clarity without making your fingers exhausted. He makes it look easy because IT is easy :)!

Thank you Tomosan! I really love your approach! How do you start ear training to make it part of your vocabulary?
@TomoFujitaMusic
@TomoFujitaMusic 4 жыл бұрын
You're welcome! Thanks so much! First you need to learn basic Ear Training so you will train your ear with specific exercises then you can apply that technique to understand harmony, chord progressions and scale approach so basically you can apply phrasing ideas into songs. But you need to have good structure on your practice routine and performance. I teach much more detail lessons (Easy Theory Lessons too!) at my Guitar Wisdom site.
