Typically, when it comes to cutting, sanding, or grinding, 3M sets the standard in performance. However, with that performance usually comes a high price as well. Such is the case with these 3M Cubitron II Roloc sanding discs. We're comparing the 3M discs to the Benchmark Abrasives Roloc Sanding Discs that you can purchase on Amazon. Actually, we purchased both brands on Amazon, but the Benchmark was much cheaper than the 3M Cubitron II sanding discs. #3m #review #amazon

For the record neither of these desks are designed to remove oxide or rust! They are designed to remove material from the stock. Using these on oxidized surfaces just causes them to clog and fail very quickly, they make special disks for oxides and rust, they look like a hard sponge. If you would actually use these for their intended purpose they would outlast the discount disks at the rate of eight times plus. I use cubatron all the time and I’ve been able to grind down 6-8 inches of a solid one by one steel bar with a single Cubatron 2 inch desk. No one else comes close to that amount of metal removal!

I bought 2" 24G for roughing out welds in tight spaces, 2"40G and 2"60G for finishing. I bought 3" 40G also for preparing for body work, 5" 60G for grinding multiple layers of paint and filler, all from Benchmark and all are blue Zerconia. They also have the best backer and nut assembly for the 4 1/2 and 5 inch electric grinder.I am very satisfied with all their products and their response to questions I had.

Cubitron II is probably the best on the market right now for it purpose (and price) they grind 2x faster , last 10x longer than almost anything else (for me they last up to 20+x longer / or 15x compared to "green" premium brand in case of orbital sander discs) belt sander in my case last 8-15x longer than other brands (or 3-5x longer than other brands ceramic belts and grind .... uh... at least 2++ if not 3+ times faster and easier than other brand belts , my 550w bench grinder modified to belt sander grind faster with cubitron belts than friend 1kw belt grinder with "standard" belts" but in case of rust removing ...check Norton Blaze Rapid Strip (and any other norton blaze abrasives) they have waaaay stronger and way more flexible glue that let you push as hard as you can without damaging the grain etc , it have like 70-80% performance of Cubitron II and last 70-80% of the Cubitron II ...but damn where Cubitron II will get shred into pieces , Norton Blaze hold like if its nothing (its avesome for sharp corners , rollock , grinding nails etc)

Love the 3/4" Benchmark flap disks..I've been using them for almost 2 years now.. you're right Tim..Benchmark is killing it 17:45.. nope...that Millwaukee grinder doesn't have the guts to heel on it and get everything outta those disks... Additionally, if you match your backer to the disk size they'll actually last longer because you're getting the surface area to distribute the work on your disks... they'll last longer...👍

It's not designed for 3" discs. 2" should be max if you want it to perform as intended. Notice how much more power it had under load with the 2" pad. Not saying you do this but I see many people bashing this grinder for lacking power meanwhile they're using out of spec attachments which is unfair to Milwaukee and to consumers reading those reviews trying to make an informed decision. I hesitated and held off buying this grinder for months because of the many reviews bashing it, up until I saw a special sale on it that I couldn't pass up and then when I got it I couldn't believe how much power it had. I use 1" and 2" attachments and it has all the power I could ever need.

I don't know about hand applications, they can be very particular. I have used Cubitron in the past on automated grinders where life was tracked very closely. Belts were inspected for wear and samples kept for certification purposes. Cubitron saved us nearly $100k a year over competitors best efforts. But again, that wasn't a hand application, those robots were very aggressive and I don't think you could hit those mrr's by hand.

You should do a review on those they're quite nice actually. They also seem to save the roloc adaptor they keep the rubber from overheating and coming apart from the anvil .

One problem I saw with this test is that tool has too much RPM. I run a slower rpm on both air and electric, it gives the stones more time to get down in and cut while building up less heat making the disc last longer.

I've watched so called 'professionals' waste disks at incredible rates simply because they are *IGNORANT* of what modern materials are capable of, and *STUPID* for refusing to take heed of a simple lesson that shows them the correct, as in superior, way to use their tools. Last year I had a steel building erected, its frame was made of 3" galvanized square tubing. The 'foreman' had to make cuts in the pieces to accommodate doors & windows. He 'used' almost one full disk for each cut, and three full disks to open up a 12" notch for passing pipes. And I'm not counting the disks he simply snapped off because he twisted the tool. his crew went through disks almost as fast doing the long cuts on the diagonals of the gables, and trimming the openings. It was *painful* to watch. I've had *ONE* 0.045" SAIT disk in my Ridgid angle grinder for over four years and I've used it to contour the bucket on my backhoe, trim aluminum door frames, fabricate a landscape rake for my Gator, a terrain rake for my skid steer, clean up welds, carve concrete spillage, bevel & trim Unistrut, and so much more! The only thing that cost me nearly an 1/4" off the diameter of the disk was when I tried to grind in a piece of hard porcelain, not the so called "porcelain bathroom tile", this was the real thing. OK, OK, I don't use it every day, but I've got eight batteries and four chargers, so when I do use the grinder, I work it until all 8 batteries are drained, and all 4 chargers are filled. I think if I were to buy a $40 box of 15 Cubitron, I'd need to include a dozen of them in my Last Will & Testament! ;^)

I guess a couple things here in case you hadn't noticed. This Milwaukie die grinder was never meant to be in a production shop doing heavy grinding all day long. So that's the first thing. Secondly, it's not rated to spin a 3-inch disc! Especially in this heavy-handed time trial application like he's doing. And the last point dovetails off the previous one he is quite heavy-handed and I understand that we're trying to see how fast it can be done but that is the reason why. The tool was not designed for that. But then again how much is it to buy a high horsepower die grinder and then the compressor to actually keep it running? That's not cheap either, so I say it probably doesn't do too bad.

I was kind of confused at first because I saw "Cubitron" vs. "Roloc". These are both 3M brands/trademarks so the Amazon ones aren't actually *Roloc* discs, they are knockoffs or "aftermarkets" that happen to fit on the Roloc system adapter/thread. Anyway that said the result is pretty good. However there do seem to be a lot more "complaint reviews" about the Benchmark ones on Amazon, than there are for the 3M ones. There's also a better tip for the stupid dual-wrench collet on the M12... Use the Ryobi HP angle die grinder 😅 Not only is it way better than the M12, it also has a lock button so you only need to use one wrench. How TTI didn't do this on the Milwaukee is a mystery. But I do get the explanation of intentionally using a weaksauce grinder.

@@gman9904 I don’t own the m12 die grinders but had my eye on them for a while. I own two matco air die grinders and two cheap Amazon ones. My issues is I have a 15 gallon 200 psi dewalt compressor and I hate that it runs every 5 mins. I try to mix up air and cordless. Coworker came in with both of the m12 die grinders and the newer 5.0 batteries. With full charge they would bog down it you put 2-3 pounds of pressure into them. It sucks because there’s plenty of 18/20v options but only large straight grinders. I think ryobi has a die grinder that’s basically a 18v drill which is crap. If Milwaukee could up the torque by at least 50% maybe they could justify the roughly $440 for two bare tools.

Neither product can perform well when the operator abuses them! Ever hear: "Fast is slow. Slow is fast."? By trying to be 'fast' with the operation, your results are slow and inefficient. If you had slowed down, not only would the edges of the disks not worn out in under a minute, the material would have come clean, as in free of mill scale in less time and with less battery.
