Retro Studios has amazing attention to detail, like their design philosophy is pretty much "if a platform is floating in the air, it has to be floating for a reason." Every single platform in Returns and Tropical Freeze is either always sticking out from something in the background or has a justification for floating. Both of these games are some of the best platformers I have ever played, and I find myself coming back to them on occasion.
@bluebaron6811 Жыл бұрын
Even the ones that have no reason for floating... have a reason for floating. The final world has platforms with runes on them that make them float.

why is it that if a full grown ape grazes its toe on a ledge while jumping, they are repelled harmlessly away instead of being able to mantle the ledge like a real ape? Why are roll and ground pound the same button, and why are there troll levels that have you switching back and forth, making you roll off a ledge when you just want to pound but you had a small amount of momentum? Finally, if an ape is riding a rhino at full speed, why does grazing a ceiling cause it to fall downward and die instead of slowing down?

@@MegaMicah12 i played WD for about 3 years, it is a very atmospheric game and it has a very good concept and the story and characters were amazing and fun, it's just the execution, the gameplay, i mean i like driving and this is a Driver 4 of sorts but it's made by Ubisoft and the budget went into making this game seems good, not into it actually being good. As a matter of fact they did watch dogs within watch dogs, there's a minigame called Alone and it is phenomenal, i wish that That was watch dogs it works so much better, you only have about 2 guns and you have no ammo for neither and it takes a lot to kill the robots there and they are cameras and it's scary since you're being hunted throughout Chicago, the problem is that they don't expand beyond that, but if the main game was focused on that idea it could be amazing. God i love this game. Retro is probably working their ass off on prime 4, but a new 2d donkey kong would go so hard. Mario wonder is proof people still like these types of games.

Maybe this person just says that because it’s “in” nowadays. 2) I don’t care if folks on KZbin, who I’ll never meet in person, see me as an antagonist. Moreover, an antagonist to what? That presumes someone is a protagonists, which seems a bit vain to me. In the end, we’re all NPCs living a short life. We just do what we enjoy to make this life meaningful to us. Still my favorite OST from any video game ever, and I'll be surprised if it gets beaten out. There's a level called Irate Eight where you're on land for less than 10 seconds before jumping into the water, and Wise put a four and a half minute song to play during that section. The boss themes are incredible, the Rocket Barrel motif is always remixed in a distinctive and transformative way, and everytime a piece of a track from an earlier DKC game is used I get chills. Every single level in this game should be in an art museum, everything is so finely crafted it's absolutely criminal that it's been almost 9 years since any other form of Donkey Kong media. I love Returns as well, but Tropical Freeze holds a very special place in my heart and I will never stop wishing for another Donkey Kong game. Until next December, Dunkey Kong. 🦍🍌

Even in 2024, 10 years later this game remains one of the greats and holds up very well! The music and the background details have so much passion put into them, Tropical Freeze genuinely feels like a love letter to 2D platforming and the prior Donkey Kong Country games from the Rareware Days.

Dunk when I watch your new videos nowadays, I have to watch them 30 seconds at a time, and then rewind, and repeat until the end because you put in 300% yourself and I wanna fully absorb it all.. That last minute was the only time I watched a minute straight this whole review because it struck me so hard with the rererealization that Uncle Donkey Kong has been gone for nearly 8 years. can't wait for your Best of 2022, which I hope takes me an hour to watch in this manner.
