Most incredible live performer I’ve ever seen. In West Germany, 1972, at a small movie theater in Ludwigsburg with a stage. My mates and I went out to hear some music, no idea what we were in for. I was a southern kid, a fan of the Allman Bros, Marshall Tucker, Wet Willie. I’d never heard of RG. Three guys came out, no warm up, and Rory took the roof off the place. That night has remained a vivid memory for more than fifty years. I’m blessed to have seen him. He left us way too early.

RIP Rory Gallagher (March 2, 1948 - June 14, 1995), aged 47 You will always be remembered as a legend.
@warrenanderson41696 жыл бұрын
I was extremely privileged to interview Rory Gallagher for CBC Radio One back in 1973 here in Calgary. One of the nicest, most soft spoken, and truly humble gentlemen in the business. He was just so easy going, pleasant and down to earth with his trade mark plaid shirts, jeans and all. Refreshingly real. I recall being a bit shocked by how old, weather beaten, rusty, and paint stripped his fender Stratocaster guitar really was. That kind of blew me way. "You're not going on stage with that beat up old thing are you?" Lol. "Yup. Every night. That's my baby...you'll see". You see - for Mr. Gallagher it was just "the" tool to get the job done right with. His chosen tool for the rough trade that he was in. No need for it to be all polished and shiny like. Tone and feel is what mattered. And with Blues being a very emotionally raw, no bullshit, and honest medium, it all fit together perfectly. This working man's music came alive in those hands of his like no one we'd ever heard before. (Or since for that matter.) When he picked that thing up and plugged it in- magic started exploding everywhere. Shivers on top of goose bumps all day long. Lol. Absolutely brilliant. Needless to say, we got along superbly throughout the process. Rory was a natural conversationalist which made my job as a rock journalist so much easier. He was the furthest thing from the typical egotistical prima donna that I was so accustomed to dealing with. Refreshing is the word. Is it any wonder then, that his popularity has enjoyed such remarkable longevity? Still a mighty force to be reckoned with well into the 21st century. This Irish blues legend lives on in our hearts and minds. No doubt about that as evidenced here once again today. All you have to do is read the posts below. That should tell you something. He's still missed by millions of adoring fans worldwide. There once was a Rory Gallagher and there once was a Jimi Hendrix. Two sides of the same coin. Both immutable and immortal. So let's raise a pint shall we? RIP Rory Gallagher!!!. And thanks so very much for the great music, memories, pictures, and especially those old CBC audio tapes that I shall cherish forever. Till death comes to reunite us once again brother!. Cheers and God Bless!

Rory Gallagher and the boys in his band are completely to blame for my six brothers and I have to live with a bad reputation all of those years. We followed Rory and his boys from the very early days from town to town and got to see them play many many times (not enough times) all over the lands. We stayed out late, come home early mornings, went to work and talked about nothing but a rocking gig that we saw the night before. Our dear neighbours were very concerned about the reputation that we were getting, they said we were rockers and blues boys and we were up to no good, we were long hair and that we would all wind up in jail. So far none of us have never been inside of a jail, but we still have all of Rory's albums and we played all of the time.

I am certainly jealous of all the times you saw Rory playing live, I only had the privilege to see him play once in 1973 in Rotterdam. It was in the time of the oil crises and the Dutch gov't had commanded that people were not allowed to drive a car on Sundays, due to gasoline shortage. So we all had to go back by train, for this was a late night gig. When Rory and the band heard about this, they played until the first trains would leave the stations, with only twice a half hour of rest. It was the best concert I have ever been to. After the gig had ended me and my friends walked to the trainstation. When we arrived there was a crowd of almost 150 people who had to go our way too. We lived about 150 km from the place where Rory played. We all got in 2 train compartments, all Rory fans, singing his songs out loud, sharing sandwiches, fun cigarets (in those days smoking in the train was allowed) and drinks. Funny I remember all that happened that evening so well. One of the best experiences of my life. The trip home had never seemed so short.

Why can't appreciation be appreciated? Some artist will be talked about for way longer than they deserve for half ass lyrics and sloppy unoriginal compositions. While some artists like Rory will leave too soon and offer so much. I don't think it's a crime at all to call and guitarist under appreciated. So who cares. I'm confident my point stands though. The more I listen to this amazing man, WHAT IN THE WORLD 🌎 HAPPENS TO MY HEART ♥️. It skips beats, rate gets a little higher than usual, i guess I’m feeling the music, feeling something. I simply love and adore this very special man. Makes me sick when I think about how careless the doctors were when giving him this medicine that made his liver shut down. Heard that in an interview. I always thought it was from drinking but apparently the meds he was on caused his liver to shut down. Now I heard this so who really knows. All I know is this, it breaks my fucking heart that he had to leave us so soon at such a young age, hey 47 is young and the older I get the more I see that. Only one Rory and I love him with all my heart and soul. 💯🔊🤘🏼💀🤘🏼🔊💯

I met a kid in the bar a few years ago and when he told me he was from Cork, Ireland, I commented on what a huge Rory Gallagher fan I was. He went absolutely bananas, telling me how Rory is still a national hero in Ireland and Cork in particular. Bought me Irish whiskeys all night too!

No he played for a living, to make money. The difference being he was not all about the money, which also means he wouldn't sell himself out just to make money. That's why he didn't put out singles, he was adamantly against it. He remained true to his nature which was important to him. That's the distinction, he certainly did play for the money, but he wanted it HIS way. He spoke of this during some of his interviews.

One of Best blues performances. Its hard to believe that this is live. One of few bands that were better live than in studio. This is my fauvorite blues song along with a Bluest blues by Alvin Lee. He build a emotions, tension in mastery level. Page said, makin music is like makin love, one you must me soft and tender and another time hard and raw. Rory was definetely a blues master.

Speaking of Jimmy Page, do you think Gallagher had been listening to Led Zep's Since I've Been Loving You when he wrote this? Just a little bit... Btw, 'hard to believe it's live'? How does that make sense? If he couldn't play it live, how would he have played it in the studio? The only difference, in those days anyway, was in the studio you got a second chance. But most people usually went with the first or second take.

Rory had the face of an Irish Angel and could play like the devil's hell hound was on his trail. He didn't play for money, he didn't play for fame, he played because the music lived inside him fighting for a way out. He was a conduit for the mainline of the blues.

One of the few live performances I didn't want to miss was when Rory Gallagher appeared in the Kaiserslautern market hall in 1975. Especially for such appearances I had bought a VW bus to take friends with me. In addition to his appearances with the Taste group, his album "Deuce" had also convinced me. And since then I've become a Rory Gallagher fan and collector of his publications. With his music he will be unforgettable for many.

I also traveled to Ireland and visited Ballyshannon,Ireland where he was born. There is a statue of him in the middle of town. Also visited his grave site in Cork,Ireland. It is a very nice trip. If you ever get a chance visit Ireland. Yall will love it.
