DONUT MUFFINS | Tastes **EXACTLY** Like a Cinnamon-Sugar Cake Donut!

I was a little skeptical they'd taste close to a cinnamon cake donut, but I was really impressed with your recipe! I can't believe how good they taste without needing to be deep fried. I like to dip the bottom in butter and roll it in cinnamon sugar while adding a thin layer of vanilla or cream cheese frosting to the top of the muffin.

In my area, the Great Lakes, we have the treat of apple cider cinnamon sugar doughnuts only available for about 4-6 weeks in Fall. Undiluted apple juice concentrate could sub for a third or half the milk. Boiling down bottled juice is another option. Interestingly, no actual apple pieces were ever used in any recipe, but I don't see why cubed apple couldn't be used, and it would make the muffins a bit more fritter-like.
