We have a 1998 Dodge Durango SLT with the 5.2 Magnum V8 and I can tell you that it's worth it. The twin 1997 Dodge Dakota SLT 5.2 Magnum is also worth it.

The old school Durango was so sick, it was ladder frame, had a tough V8, had a capable 4x4 system, and it was cheap. It was smaller and more practical than other SUVs, but more capable and muscular than other midsize SUVs.

I had a Durango GT with 20" wheels as a rental for 9 days in Michigan in Nov when they hit record lows in the teens. It drove great and went over snow even with the large performance tires. Good steering feel and made good sounds when you step on it, handled all sorts of roads without problems and never felt like I was in a truck. Only glitch was the heated wheel and seat controls did not like to keep settings, it ignored low heat setting a lot and just stuck at medium.

My dad had an 01 Durango rt. We bounced the front end off a rock doing 30 on a ridiculously eroded road. Didn't slow it down at all. Great for donuts in snow too. We took that thing in place you would only take an ATV adding only oversized tires and the winch we left at home
