Well he created one beautiful car and it's definitely considered "Rolling Art" in my opinion. His story is both amazing and tragic. I really believe that "The Big 3" conspired against him with the help of the government because they knew he would've given them a run for their money if he was able to get it mass produced.. Anyways, I really hope that everything is going well with you and yours right now everyone. 🙏
@richdiscoveries6 жыл бұрын
I'm definitely going to have to watch this a little later when I have time. Preston Tucker was an absolute genius!!! He would have been very famous and very rich, but the big three shut him down and stole all his safety Innovations. Integrated roll cage, safety glass, pop out glass, padded dashboards those were all his Innovations and now most of those features are in every car you see on the roads. It even came with a cover for the center headlight for states that didn't allow 3 headlights.. also if I remember correctly, all the body panels were made out of recycled metal from junkyard cars as well. Such an amazing story turned tragic because of money, politics and greed
@deedler56876 жыл бұрын
RICH DISCOVERIES I agree with all of these points. From an engineering stand point both the Tucker and Tatra should have paved the way for the modern automobile and stuck around.

@@deedler5687 I became obsessed with this car back in the 90s when the movie came out. I've done a lot of reading on them since. The car had doors that opened up into the roof so you can get in and out without crouching or taking your hat off. And the seats were interchangeable so that you can swap them around every year to keep the wear on the seats even!! Lol So many innovations that I can't even remember them all. He definitely bit off more than he can chew, and a company most likely would have never made it without Financial backing and support from bigger companies. They say the big three had nothing to do with him going bankrupt, but I have my doubts about that. But who knows, starting an entire car company all by yourself it's nearly impossible, even in today's world

@@SLVRGTP absolutely!! They want to showcase all cars and there is so many to choose from. Plus don't they do these based on subscriber feedback?? In the mid 80s, I was visiting my father for the weekend. I accompanied him as he made a brief visit at a funeral home to pay respects to a friend. I waited in Dad's car. While waiting, i noticed the funeral home had a large garage attached with multiple doors. I peaked in a window and saw what at first I thought was a late 40s Studebaker. I was shocked to see that it actually was a Trucker. There was no doubt. What I had thought was the central chrome nose of a Studebaker was actually a 3rd headlight. The Tucker was painted, as I recall, in a medium blue. I was given permission to go into the garage. Also in there were two or three Deusenbergs. It's a 35 year old memory so I'm not clear on the pacticulars, but it seems that one of the Duesenbergs was sans the body. A complete chassis. I was, as now, a car freak. I didnt know much about Tuckers or Doozies, but I knew enough to recognize them. As I recall this funeral home was located in Franklin, Indiana.

The Cord transmission proof to be one of the key in Tucker's trial. Apparently they scoured all over US to find used Cord transmission and it was submitted as an "evidence" to say that Tucker didn't have a mass produce cars and made his from leftover junkyard parts. They forget to mention that it was common to used leftover and junkyard parts at making prototypes, including the big three.
@That_AMC_Guy6 жыл бұрын
Also, by the time of the trial, most (if not all) Tucker cars remaining at the factory had been converted to Y-1's which were 100% manufactured at the Chicago Plant. The only parts that interchange between a Cord transaxle and a Y-1 is the Solenoid Pack and some of the vacuum-actuator parts. Tucker engineers even redesigned the Oil pump within the transmission for more consistent oil pressure.

Plus most, if not all, of the remaining roadworthy Tuckers made an appearance at the end of the movie . . . when Preston Tucker was acquitted and invited the courtroom guests to see his cars IRL.
@That_AMC_Guy6 жыл бұрын
Not exactly. If I recall correctly, they had 5 or 6 real cars for the movie, plus Francis Ford Coppola's two Tuckers (The Maroon one and the Silver one). Many were fiberglass replicas and the stunt car that was rolled was cobbled together from a late 40's Studebaker.
@ThinJizzy6 жыл бұрын
He didn't mention it, but a snippet from the film was used. 7:22
@ronaldschild1576 жыл бұрын
Okay, that actually makes more sense. I do recall reading the scrolling text at the end of the film - before the ending credits - the number of Tuckers produced and still roadworthy. On the DVD, one of the bonus tracks had an interview with Francis Ford Coppola, and he mentioned the Tuckers he owns. There is another individual associated with the movie who also owns one Tucker. All I remember is Coppola saying there were a total of three Tuckers personally owned by film's key people. It may have been the producer.

Pumphrey, I'm a big fan of these shows but I have to edumacate you on a couple things in this episode. First, Ypsilanti is pronounced "ipsa-lantee". It's an eclectic little town of retired factory workers with a good mix of hipsters. Most people live here because they can't afford Ann Arbor. Second, you missed the little known Porsche connection with Tucker that I only learned about at the Porsche Effect exhibit at the Petersen museum earlier this year. Apparently Porsche wanted to sell a sedan version of their car in the US and teamed up with Tucker. Porsche did a lot of the design work but ultimately decided there wasn't a good business case for them. Porsche also had some involvement with the Corvair that also didn't pan out. Lesser known fun facts I thought I would share. Keep up the good work.

Leave it to him, to make the end of the movie very very stupid,--and a lie. The little fridge, and the last line, "It does not matter. It is only machinery. It is the idea that counts." An idea never built anything on it's own. Being able to see it though and having the freedom to do so is what created every advancement of mankind. Coppola does not deserve that car. The Tucker is my favorite car of all time. "The car of tomorrow... today." This video was well done, except for the mispronunciation of Ypsilanti, but I may just know that as a Michigan native. Although I do wish you had gone a little more into the Tucker combat car--a Hummer before Hummers existed--and the Tucker turret. A patent that could've netted Tucker some serious bank, but because he was such a patriot, he turned it over to the US government. That's class.

Although the person who took over his Factory Lustron homes was a very innovative steel built house that was produced in the same Factory as Tucker did when he created and built his futuristic Tucker Torpedo they even had problems with the government. Now I believe the factory that was both Tucker cars and then Lustron homes were built, part of the building is used by the Tootsie Roll company. Which is still there to this day and family-owned.
