Perfect diy movie. Thx, pushing in the new hose not that easy , made a special plastic tube (from a silicone nozzle) to put over the petrol hose and so pushing it in more equally.

Thanks for another great video. I changed the fuel line on my 029 last night and it was fast and easy thanks to having watched this video the day before. Mine was cracked but this video helped immensely. The tip about peeking in between the tank and the saw body to view the fuel line where it enters the tank was helpful. I observed it being dry and then getting wet with fuel as soon as I turned the saw on its side, so I knew what the problem was. Thanks Don.

Holy cow there is more to that than I would have thought. But I'm glad you mentioned the magic words "Impulse Line". Because when I was 12 years old I had a go-kart, 2-stroke, with a carburetor that I never understood very well because it didn't have a float bowl or a fuel pump. It was the only "impulse line" type carb I've ever had on anything, and I never understood how it could even work at all. So now with the magic words, I can read about these carbs and figure out the stuff I wish I had known then. Better Late Than Never! Thanks!

Yes, the amount of people who bought stuff into the shop where I worked and said "oh it's just a xxx amount of time to fix right" they never worked on small motors yet they were the experts and not the guys who worked on them all day. Then they complained when the bill came in. One guy bought two saws in and wanted me to make a good one out of two (both were pretty stuffed), I had to use parts from another parts saw we had in stock so he had a decent saw, he complained bitterly that I did that so I took our bits off and just threw whatever he had together. I told him straight that both his saws were stuffed and said I offer no guarantee that saw will work.

Thanks Dony. I looked through my MS 290 owners manual (my 290 is from 2003, and still runs great) and for winter operation I think you may have the pre-filter backwards. The part with the holes (has a sun symbol on the right of it) should be facing up for summer operation, the part with no holes (has a snowflake symbol on the left side of it) should be facing up for winter operation. Also for winter operation, the shutter should be popped up and placed to the left of the spark plug, then back to the right side for summer operation. The shutter should be on the same side as the symbol. Things may have changed, as my saw is 22 years old, but that is what my manual says.

Great video and explanation. Just one thing caught my attention, when you were talking about that plastic part on top of the air filter that you can flip for winter and for summer. I think that you said it backwards, when you turn that part so the holes are between cylinder and air filter housing that is a winter setup because it allows warm air from cylinder to get to the air filter area. And when you flip it so it's blocked that is a summer setup because you don't want hot air from cylinder to get to the air filter area when it's already warm outside.
@wanderingandroid

Yeah, screen on top means its for summer operation. It even has a embosed sun icon stamped on the screen side and snowflake icon on the other side to remind which is which.

I just stumbled upon this. You are right. It is not to prevent air from coming in at all. It is to allow hot air from the cylinder to be sucked in.

great video. simple and concise. but it looks like you put your air prefilter in upside down. in winter the prefilter should have the snowflake pointing up so that the grilled part allows warm air to be drawn in from around the motor so that it can warm the air being drawn into the carb.

my new (few run time hours) farmertec 660 saw leaves a puddle of gas under the unit. originally, i thought the gas tank might be cracked so i removed the gas tank lower unit and inspected it but didn't find a problem. i left the tank off the saw for a few days with a 1/3rd tank of fuel and no puddle was noticed. i reassembled the tank to the saw and let the unit sit on my work bench for a few days and then noticed more gas was puddling. do you have any ideas of what to look at for this issue? i looked at the check valve on the tank and confirmed air was flowing in a single direction. thanks for you expert guidance!

I put the grommet in with a little 1184 on the seating surface and then pull it into the tank with my hemostats. This keeps the grommet fro leaking and there is usually enough oil left around the hole in the tank to keep the grommet from being permanently attached to the gas tank. Another thing to watch if using an AM fuel line is - did the line go all the way on the carb fitting. If not it can lengthen the line and cause a kink right behind the carb.

@johnclarke6647 Жыл бұрын
@@johncollins8304 Threebond 1184 is what I use. Let it dry for 15 minutes and then put the parts together. A thin coat is all that is needed. Stihl uses Dirko HT but it does not keep well once opened. I keep my tube of 1284 on my desk in the house, which is air conditioned. Leaving any tube of RTV type sealants in a non air conditioned space will lead to their premature hardening, opened or not. I keep all sealants/glues on my desk in the house.

I put a little 1184 on the gromett grove before I put the fuel line in the tank. This insures it won’t leak, again. I pull the line into the tank from the inside of the tank until it pops into the tank. The 1184 helps it to go not the tank.I do the same thing on oil lines that go into the bar oil tank. I degrease the holes with break cleaner an a Q tip before I put the lines in. I also pressure and vacuum test all gas tanks, fuel lines, gas cap and tank vent. They better hold 7# pressure and vacuum.

Hey Dony, do you think you could do a long term study/review of K100 vs Stabil, Seafoam and baseline ethanol-gas? I just came across my chipper that refuses to start. (had gas in over fall/Winter but fuel shutoff). I dropped the bowl/float and found clear crystals in the fuel. I drained out the tank (hand syphon) and noticed alot of this "debris" on the bottom of tank. I don't know how to clean it out (have to remove the tank or flush it?) but I think I used Stabil or Seafoam fuel dryer/preventer. Preventer at starting, right?

Hi Don, I'm a little confused by something you mentioned in this video on the MS290, could you please clarify it for me. This video differs to what you showed in your summer/winter mode video. In this video you said 'it's winter here in Canada', and installed the air dam with the vent holes facing up, and the hole next to the spark plug was closed off? In this video you said, 'in summer' you would put the vent holes in the air dam facing forward for more air flow'? This seems to contradict your other summer/winter video: For winter mode you showed the vent holes facing forward to allow warm air to flow past the carb, stopping the carb freezing up and allows quicker warm up etc. You also flipped the black flap next to the spark plug boot to open up the air hole for winter mode. In summer, you showed the blank part of the air dam should face forward with vent holes facing up to block warm air flowing around the carb, and the hole next the the spark plug boot has to be closed off to make all of the air flow over the cylinder which promotes best cooling?🤔👍🇦🇺

It's not enough to set the plate to summer and winter positions, you must also flip the shutter 180° located by the spark plug so it draws hot air during the winter. All it tales is removing the spark plug boot and a screwdriver to take the shutter off and flip it to open a port.
