Easy to follow and thorough step by step tutorials do it yourself (DIY) to help you with your broken lawn and garden equipment including snowblowers.
I do my best to teach you how to easily diagnose problems the fastest, quickest and most efficient way with real repairs beyond just replacing a spark plug. These tips are for both the homeowner and shop owner.
Whether it be a handheld, two stroke, two cycle engine like chainsaws, weed eaters, weed wackers, string trimmers, grass trimmers, line trimmers, hedge trimmers, strimmers, brush cutters, leaf blowers, or four stroke, four cycle units like lawn mowers, lawn tractors, snowblowers, pressure washers, generators, ride on mowers that need parts installed or replaced, I’m your go-to guy.
My favorite brands of spark plugs are NGK and Champion and are the ones I recommend.
I’ve been a small engine mechanic for many decades and also run my own repair shop so my videos are loaded with tips and tricks that I have learned and want to share with you. You will also find many tool and product reviews from top brands on my channel as well.

donyboy73, thank YOU! I was about to toss my MS250C in the trash, but now I’m confident that I can have it working like new with no problem. The oiler is the only problem I’ve ever had with this saw, but it was driving me crazy.

This video stands the test of time. The close ups and detailed explanations instill confidence to make these repairs by the owners. The Stihl chainsaw we own still has a plaque that reads "Made in Germany". I was using it last year to help my neighbor clear a large downed tree, but most of the way into clearing the tree it stopped oiling. It's been sitting for a year now and this spring I can finally sit outside, hopefully a warm sunny day, and get into this. All I need is the 27 star tool. Thanks again for all the details, including tools and screw locations. And, this isn't the first video of yours I've seen. Much thanks DB.

Thankyou so much Donyboy. The other day, I replaced all of the oiler components on my MS230 which had stopped supplying oil to the bar and chain. Your very clear explanation and instructions made it easy. For those in the UK contemplating any DIY maintenance on their Stihl machinery (or indeed most garden machinery) I can recommend L&S Engineers for all parts supplies. Clear parts diagrams on their website, competitive prices and quick delivery. The combination of DonyBoy's clear instructions and the availability of parts makes servicing and repairing your own machinery a walk in the park.

In the US I was sold a 1123-640-3201 oil pump. I believe it takes a 10-32 machine screw rather than the M5 used for the 1123-640-3200 oil pump shown in the video. Great video.

I was the guy who's 025 Stihl was in storage since '07. I believe I wrote to one of your other vids about not being able to pull the starter rope to "turn it over." I pulled with more force and everything was fine after that. When I opened the case after 9 years all the chain oil had bled out of the saw. "THIS" video helped me resolve that problem and I want to thank you for this helpful video. My '97 025 is essentially the same saw as the saw in this video. I'm mechanically inclined, but, never worked on my 025. I followed your procedures here and replaced the oil tube as well as that little "O" ring...problem solved! The Torx T-27 driver and the M-5 metric screw you recommended were "spot on." I checked out the pump...it was good. Put it all back and everything is fine. The Stihl dealer that I bought the saw in '97 is still in business. The "piston stop" they gave me...I couldn't get it to work, but, inserting a soft poly ski-rope that worked fine. One question I have...the bar is nice and flat and not distorted or worn out and the oil hole is dispersing oil well...is it normal to have a bit of oil drip down after the saw is turned off? I set the saw onto a flat surface after running it and there was a small dime size puddle of oil that came from the bar where the oil hole is. Is that normal? Thanks again for this great video.

Just a great DIY chainsaw repair video! When my oiler stopped, I didn't have a clue how to fix it. I found your video, enjoyed watching it and knew immediately I could do the repair because of your excellent explanation and high quality videography. Two things I found by accident during my repair: The handle bolts will fit the oil pump for extraction, so you'll always have an extractor tool. And, to clean the small oiler hole, I inserted the oil straw attached to my can of WD40. Give it a good squirt and it flushes out debris.

This video is perfect! I have an MS-250 Chainsaw, and noticed the chain wasn't getting oil. Followed your instructions. Turns out the O-ring on that plastic piece was pinched. Thank you for this video. I have a MS290 but many of the steps are similar. The pump on my unit was actually easier to remove, just two bolts and I didn’t have to remove the handle. This video gave me enough info and confidence to do the job. My pump was starting to bind and that caused the plastic worm gear to eat itself. Two parts and back up again. Thanks!!!

Wow - I am usually pretty critical about DIY videos, I end up watching numerous ones and still it is not enough. BUT, my MS290 had the same issue. It turned out to be a clogged oil filter and because of your video I just went in and replaced everything that was worn!! YOU ARE REALLY GOOD AT THIS! FYI, the Stihl dealer wanted $55 to diagnosis the issue and if it was the pump. $115 with parts----3 week waiting time. I hope somehow you are in education or training, if not, you should be - Best DIY video I have seen in a long time - Thank You!!

Before stripimg down the clutch etc. use a piece of electric wire, 1.5mm and try to unblock the oiler hole as far down as you can, then use a piece of 25lb fishing line and do the same, the fishing line will go around the bend right through to the oil pump and clear any blockage there. 99% of the time this is the cure.

Great video. I bet this actually covers a lot of different models of Stihl saws, all the internals look similar to my MS211. Of course the part numbers will be different. One note - I noticed if I manually spin the clutch drum that the oiler works and a very small amount of oil comes out of the bar oiling hole, proof positive that the pump works. It takes about 10 rotations but it works.

I noticed that you mention the clutch notch for the oiler location. The mark lines up over the wire . Now going back to your instalation of the oil pump . You marked out side of the case the hole that does not have the long slot side with a black marker. Nice. But what i noticed on your video is the chainsaw already has a casting mark on it showing the slotted side of the oiler goes this way. Looks like the letter " C " but a bacwards C . Just noticed this cool marking from the manufacture. As always . Great video and explained well. Keep it going Donny.!

You're an awesome teacher. If there's a tech school in your area they should be looking for you. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and giving such precise detail. Excellent job on shooting the video too. With your help, was able to replace a bad clutch on my Stihl 290. I'll be looking for more of your videos.

My MS290 is leaking oil from the place where it lubricates the bar (the hole) even when sitting, I'm thinking I will replace the whole oil system since it's been about 10 years. Good videos, very informative and professional.

Don, a really nice job! (Oil Pump Replacement - Stihl MS250 Chainsaw) I too, enjoy watching longer videos, and the procedures that can be apply to other STIHL models of chainsaws. Thank you, cheers! :-)

Great Video! I have been struggling with my 025 oiler for the last year. I broke my down and found that my oil pump had some debris that clogged the outbound port. I cleaned out the oiler with compressed air and starting fluid and put the saw back together. Also took the time to clean up the saw while I had it tore apart(over 20 years of built up debris in some parts) I now have good oil flow and the chain/bar is well lubricated. For what it's worth I did purchase a new sprocket, Worm Gear, and Oiler for under $20 on Amazon.
